These days, Mariah Carey's older cuts usually make their way to the Billboard charts around the holidays. She takes over the rankings every December and January with her undeniable hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which mounts an annual comeback. Beyond that tune, she hasn't scored a new smash in a little while, but this week, she does just that with a time-tested favorite as well.
Carey's "Always Be My Baby" debuts on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week. The R&B/pop smash opens at No. 35 on Billboard's list of the most popular tracks on TikTok.
The chart company introduced the TikTok Billboard Top 50 in 2023, as the social media app has become hugely important in the music industry. The list uses a methodology, that, according to the tally itself, ranks "the most popular songs on TikTok in the US based on creations, video views and user engagement".
"Always Be My Baby" marks Carey's second career hit on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. She instantly doubles her total number of placements on the relatively new list with her latest win.
The Grammy winner earned her first appearance on the TikTok-only roster last November, not long after the TikTok Billboard Top 50 was inaugurated. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" rose to No. 1 in the final chart week of 2023, becoming her first leader and bringing that hit to the top spot on yet another ranking.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" has thus far spent 10 weeks on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. That sum will almost certainly increase when the holiday season approaches again.
"Always Be My Baby" was released in 1996 as a single from Carey's fifth album Daydream. The track worked its way to No. 1 on the Hot 100, bringing her back to the summit. The smash became Carey's eleventh leader on the list of the most-consumed songs in the country, and it wouldn't be her last.
