Madonna is Number 1 - Hey, everybody has a misprint

Major booboo - we made a mistake (well. more of a faux pas) in our recent article on Janet Jackson. Hey, Janet knows about slipups. In Thursday's post, "There's always time for Janet Jackson", we reported that Mizz Jackson was "second only to Mariah Carey in the highest record sales of any female singer". We should have verified that - Madonna? - duh.

It really depends on whom you ask, with regard to who stands where: Madonna's Confessions Tour holds the record for the highest grossing concert tour of any female artist; she is also listed in last year's Guinness Book of Records as the top earning female singer in the world. She's tied with Elvis Presley's record of the most amount of hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

As far as World Music Awards go, though, Carey has received 16 - more than any other artist, period (higher than Michael Jackson). It doesn't particularly matter to us - we love all three (Madge, Mimi, and Janet) and think they are all amazing artists and talented beyond comprehension. But reader (and presumably Madonna fan?) Josh sent us an e-mail informing us of our slip-up, and wanted you to know:

"The whole statement is untrue according to the IFPI, RIAA, Billboard, Guinness, and Rolling Stone which all list Madonna as #1. Madonna has moved over 200 million albums outside the USA, just her international album sales put her over Mariah and far far over Janet," Josh wrote. "Warner Brothers states in the year 2000 that Madonna has sold over 200 million albums internationally and the IFPI backed up this claim... that is not counting her album sales in the USA nor her singles sales and maxi-singles sales in the USA."

Thanks, Josh. We love Madge, too.
