It's a wonder the show got taped at all

The World Music Awards didn't exactly go off without a hitch last week in Los Angeles. Usher, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Bon Jovi and Alanis Morissette were among those who performed at the taped ceremony, which will air September 13 on ABC.

"It was a disaster," says a snitch. "It was supposed to start at 8 p.m., but it started at 9. And it got later and later because they kept stopping filming. People [in the audience] started leaving around 11:30, but poor Stevie Wonder had to stay because he was closing the show. He didn't get on until after midnight, and filming wrapped around 1:30." The source added: "It's a good thing Stevie couldn't see that half the audience wasn't there."

The WMAs were held annually in Monaco until last year, when the event went to Las Vegas. Organizer Melissa Corken denied the reason it moved was her boozy after-dinner speech in 2003 in which she called Prince Albert - who was there - "a lesbian." A rep for the WMAs did not respond to a request for comment.
