RIAA awards Mariah Carey, Rolling Stones, others

Mariah Carey's The Emancipation Of Mimi tied as the highest certified record to date of 2005, when the RIAA officially certified it quadruple Platinum in October. Carey's latest success with The Emancipation Of Mimi now puts her album sales near the 60 million mark, making her close on Michael Jackson's heels for sixteenth on the list of all-time top grossing artists. Carey is currently tied with 50 Cent's The Massacre as the highest certified record to date in 2005.

October was also a good month for the Rolling Stones as they received Gold and Platinum certifications for their latest album, A Bigger Bang. The rockers are now only one Gold album away from tying The Beatles, who currently hold the highest number of Gold certified albums with 43.

Moreover, rapper Paul Wall earned Gold and Platinum awards for The People's Champ. Wall's Altantic Records labelmates' Shinedown received their first Platinum certification for Leave A Whisper. "Hollaback Girl", the third single from Gwen Stefani's Love.Angel.Music.Baby, was certified five times Platinum, making it the first digital single to cross the one million download mark.

All in all, the RIAA handed out a total of five multi-Platinum, 10 Platinum and 23 Gold albums in October.
