About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Here For It All (review) (111,518)

I had the exact same thought about JID. It flows in the same vein as MIH. At first, I was hesitant to like JID. The song grew on me halfway through. I tend to prefer religious songs as ballads. It took me time to appreciate Mariah's version of Joy to the World. Now I love it. I think the same things are going to happen with JID.

Here For It All (review) (111,514)
by BFF from United States

Out of all the albums in her catalogue, "Here For It All" reminds me most of the "Emotions" album, which is my second favorite after "Butterfly".
The vocals are, of course, not at the same level, but the up-tempos like "Play This Song" have the same relaxed/fun vibe of "Emotions" and ballads like "Nothing is Impossible" and "Here for It All" hit me the same way as "Can't Let Go", "And You Don't Remember", and "Til The End of Time". "Jesus I Do" gives me a little bit of upbeat "Make it Happen" type energy. Even though "I Won't Allow It" and "Champagne and Confetti" are sonically different, they give me the kiss off vibes of "If It's Over" and "You're So Cold".
This album is truly a resurgence of classic Mariah with a great new twist. Bravo, Ms. Carey.

Exactly. Mariah isn't making music to satisfy others. She uses music for her own therapy and ours. All her achievements speak for themselves.

That's such a strange criticism because, to me, the songs seem more solid than the ones on "Caution". The ballads "Nothing Is Impossible" and "Here For It All" sound much stronger than "Portrait" based on the clips I have heard. Other writers are complaining that she seems "too relaxed", as if that's a bad thing? Maybe Mariah's tired of the drama and just wanted to put together an album that was fun and healing for her? She's been working like a dog the last year or so, and she's clearly exhausted.
But ultimately nitpicking is what critics do to line their resumes and earn their living, so we really should take it with a grain of salt. The reviews for "Butterfly" on its initial release in 1997 were not amazing, but it went on to be considered her best album by many. I know we don't like Tommy, but he was right when he said "don't pay so much attention to what they write because it will be used to wrap fish the next day".

I just watched the interview but I skipped through the snippets. Nice to see the humour still there and her vulnerability. I just feel the light heartedness isn’t there she’s clearly very medicated. But if that’s what she needs to function then that’s cool. It was great to see her open up a bit more though and not talk about the same old things. I'm really excited for tomorrow.

Curse or cuss (111,277)

Parenting is tough. It's a lot harder than when I was a kid. Social media had become the game changer. Like I told TJ, you set the expectations and hope something sinks in. I try and teach my kids to laugh, work hard, nothing is automatic, honesty, integrity, and be kind. I'm trying to get my kids to enjoy Mariah's music. I play it in the car enough, lol. Sadly, that may not sink in. The closest I got was the summer of 2014 when my kids requested the "you don't know" song on our way to swimming lessons. It didn't take long term.

Curse or cuss (111,265)
by Edward from USA

Stacey, it's really sad. Even when we try to keep kids away from "bad words", like we used to call them, social media just blasts them from every angle. That's why the foundation they get at home is so important. Sure, they'll hear those words, but they should also know better than to actually use them. I remember when I was a kid, about 12 years ago, if I heard an adult outside my family cuss, I was shocked, I had never once heard my parents do it. Even now, I don't really cuss, though I might drop a word or two with friends, but it's not part of how I normally talk. I know it sounds harsh by today's standards, but where I grew up, if you disrespected your elders or cussed, you'd get smacked right on the mouth.

Mariah's priorities (111,275)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
In the states there were warning labels for movies, music, etc. I was born in 1977. My years of childhood were of course the 80s and 90s. No technology like we have today. I agree with you 100% we are raising snowflakes. Such whiny entitled brats. Not every kid. I teach plenty of good students who understand the value of hard work. I teach middle school special education so yeah I can speak to this somewhat. It's a hard balance of when to choice for my kids and let them choose for themselves. All three of my kids are teenagers. I have to teach what I can and hope it sinks in.

Mariah's priorities (111,255)
by TJ from Norway

I do agree about parenting your kids to not swear while talking, as I [too] think it's not necessary to use those words. Did you grow up in a society where there was warnings on movies, albums and so on? I did not. I see the parenting guidance on the different tv series and stuff on Netflix etc, and I'm thinking this has to be a result of the worst generation ever when thinking of parenting. Generation X. We are helicoptering, stuff pillows under their arms (actually mattresses) and trying to protect them in ways that makes them incredibly insecure and not capable to handle normal problems in life. I'm not saying that you're one of those, because I really do believe you're not, but I see the parents of Generation X are often doing that.
I think kids at home, and kids away from their parents can be totally different personalities and behave so differently that a lot of the parents would be shocked. Even in religious communities.
Mariah's kids, I hope get the protecting they need, because I've said from day one that I hoped they would grow up away from fame and the public life she's living.
Sadly this is not my first language, and I hope I made a point here. Peace and love.

I am glad we have warnings. As a mom to three kids (17, 14, 12), I don't want my children thinking those words are acceptable in their daily language. Swear words lack credibility with me. Just so unnecessary, IMHO. Sure my kids are exposed to them daily in school. I teach them to avoid using those words. My hope is that they will use them sparingly like me, lol.

Does an album need a warning because of the words? I went to watch the Book of Mormons in Oslo this weekend, and on the row behind me there was was a family with young kids watching and obviously listening. I guess the parents were quite embarrassed. I'm so glad we usually don't have warnings because of scenes or choice of the words, because, believe me, they already know them.

I think the Vegas residency is less intense and a better idea than a tour because she is able to stay in one place. I feel better about it than a US or international tour for the Christmas shows. Stella was a mess, but I do think the instinct to start booking residencies was smart. Celine Dion really was ahead of her time when she started the Vegas shows - now everyone is doing it.
I remember Mariah sounding pretty good in clips from the "The Butterfly Returns" residency. Being in one place allows her to rest more and presumably would allow her to keep a more consistent sleep schedule.
I am glad she said a hard "No" to the interview questions about touring behind "Here for It All". That would be 100 percent the wrong move right now. She's been pushing herself way too hard and it is exacerbating whatever underlying health issues she has going on. She really needs to take time off.

Same sentiment here. I think that letting go of unrealistic expectations makes the experience so much better. I am well. Thanks for asking. I agree the swear word is so unnecessary. The censors here in the US are different. They may release an edited album version much like they did with Caution. I couldn't exactly listen to GTFO in my car with my kids, lol. The song HFIA is so beautiful on its own. I am fangirling over these amazing lyrics that take me back to 90s Mariah where her songwriting was so deep for such a young artist. 9 days people.

Hey Stacey, I hope [you're] well? I've just been on UK iTunes and it's showing explicit here for that track. Interesting though the album didn't show up if I just typed Mariah Carey in search bar. Now I had to put in the full album title too for it to show up on search. I wonder if she's gonna edit it but highly doubt it. I can only wish she would take that word out, it's completely unnecessary.

The song HFIA has me feeling Looking In vibes. No, both songs are quite different from each other, in melody, etc. Looking In represented a potential life changing moment. HFIA acknowledges all her moments and how thryve shaped MC today. Yet, I can't help tie the two songs together. The lyrics in both songs are so deep and thought provoking. At almost 48, on October 4th, I am here for it all too.

Mariah's priorities (111,199)
by Randy from USA

No surprise in Brazil. I'm always surprised that people are so upset though. It's become a joke on Instagram and TikTok. "Go ahead Mimi give us nothing and everything at the same time." I think Mariah's priorities are ranked in this order. #4 Her vocals. #3 "The music" or being a songwriter in the studio. #2 The lighting. #1 Looking great: "the hair, the makeup, the ensemble". Whenever she walks out on stage, myself and everyone in the general public says the same thing, " wow she looks great." But we never leave the performance with "she sounded great". And as for HFIA, Stacey and Bill, I agree with the "sh*t" being out of place. And she mentions God in the next line. Listen I say bad words but they fit the moment. GTFO is my anthem. But on HFIA, "sh*t" didn't belong with the mood of the verse. I really like the song though, outside of that. And if you've followed my career as a columnist on this board, y'all know I don't like anything. P.S I kinda thought we were getting "Mi" this week as she alluded to it at the end of her "finish the lyric video". Oh well.

The outfit was not great, but the speech was brilliant. I was praying we weren't going to get some drunken rambling like we did when she won her award for Precious or when she was inducted into the SHOF, but glad to see she was coherent, well rehearsed, engaging and funny. Her relationship with Ariana is really so nice to see. Sort of like how Patti and Aretha revered and supported Mariah when she was Ari's age.
As for the performance, it sort of is what it is at this point. No movement, badly lipped, but somewhat entertaining. The crowd loved it so I suppose that's what counts.
I loved her plug for the album and that melodic "two weeeeks" line. We are all so excited to hear new music from her. I never wish my days away but I am beyond excited to hear the album, especially Jesus I Do.

That's the respect MC deserves. I love to see it on such a huge public stage.

I loved Mariah's camaraderie with Ariana. I'm so glad Mariah changed her attitude towards Ari about three years ago or so. Ariana referring to Mariah as "mother", given the significance of that, it's simply epic and the greatest show of respect. I'm very proud of both of them. I can't effing wait for "HFIA".
