Sugar Sweet TikTok video (110,259) by Dove from United States
I think she just had fresh veneers put in and that's why her mouth is moving strangely. It doesn't look like she has filler, just Botox. It's actually really well done. Those looks and slow movements of her face could probably be the result of some kind of medication.

Also, ever since Heartbreaker they've done a really strange slow motion editing to her videos. I don't know the purpose and it's always bugged me.

I'm just speculating about the Botox and filler. I just know a lot of people who get it and hers looks pretty good.

Even on Jimmy Kimmel she looked really good. I don't know any 50 year old that looks that good in real life. (Well, just one but she's Japanese and she had a face lift.) To me, she's still one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

Shot voice (110,245) by Dove from United States
Brian Wilson still performed into old age, even with a shot voice, and his fans would still come see him. I think she can do it for as long as she's comfortable but I put myself in that spot and I'm not that brave. That's why I get nervous for her. But apparently I've been harsher on her than the general public. I asked my coworker if she liked the new Mariah song on the radio (the coworker who sent me the picture of the little screen in her car) and she said she did. She's young too, I think she turned 24 this year. She would tell me if she didn't like it, she's really blunt.

Sugar Sweet YouTube reviews (110,236) by Dove from United States
I just spent the last hour watching YouTube reviews on Sugar Sweet and all the ones I've watched so far seem to love the song. So maybe I'm wrong. Also, I found my Bose speaker and I can hear the boom more on that speaker.

People were saying the high parts (that I think sound strained) sounded "raw" and they love it. I guess we'll see how it does. All the reviewers I watched I didn't know, I just searched "Sugar Sweet" reviews and followed the trail.

I'm trying to make "fetch" happen (110,234) by Dove from United States
I know nobody liked my idea but I'm going to say it again because I think it's a good idea. One of the songs should start out with that clip of her saying "Imma do the best I can with what I got." Then it should move into an intro like Ghetto Superstar and the song should have a strong beat and guitar riff like that song too. It would be funny.

Going out with a bang (110,232) by Dove from United States
I know it doesn't matter, but I kind of do want to see Mariah at the top again. I want people to discover her back catalog and love her music as much as I do. With how long she takes between projects now, this might be her last album (like Edward said) and I selfishly want her to go out with a bang.

I wouldn't mind if she has to over-engineer songs now, as long as they sound good. I also listened to the songs Bobby A listed, where they're riding the beat, and I like that idea too.

I know The Beatles were only together for 10 years, and they milked those albums forever, but their songs were easy to sing - nobody can sing Mariah like Mariah. So people covering her songs wouldn't help her.

I like the idea of the mini series that was mentioned in the last article. Hopefully they do it justice.

The cars that go boom. (110,224) by Dove from United States
I was watching old videos trying to find some old school songs with booming bass sounds. I came across Sir Mix-A-Lot, Baby Got Back. It unlocked a core memory you guys might appreciate.

When I was in 5th grade I tried out for the school talent show. I tried out to Baby Got Back. Not just the dance. I rapped and danced the whole thing. I bought a pirated cassette with just the instrumental track at the swap meet.

I remember the two teachers let me finish the whole thing and they were trying not to laugh the whole time. When I was done they told me I could not perform that song because it wasn't appropriate.

I was just listening to the lyrics and I did not know what I was singing. I just thought it sounded so good. I remember I would practice in our yard and my mom wouldn't say anything because she didn't speak English. I would put on a whole show for her. Lol.

That's the kind of dance song I'm craving. Or the one about the cars that go boom.

(I'm sorry I'm spamming the board. I'm on a two week vacation and I'm bored. I go back to work tomorrow so my posts will be less.)

Wishful thinking (110,221) by Dove from United States
I don't know. We need a viral moment. She should hire Roseanne to write some skits for her social media.

Also, Sugar Sweet needs to be re-sung just by herself. There needs to be a remix with a harder beat that will bump in the car. Or maybe a strong bass guitar riff.

I'm sorry but her voice sounds frail and thin and it's not pleasant to listen to. I know she can sound better.. We need to up the humidifiers or something. (No shade because even at her worst she sounds better than I did at my best.) Her voice sounds better on Type: Dangerous. But SS is a good song too. It just needs work IMO.

For the video she should just hire people for it. Or put it in a scary movie. Like, the movie can start all nice and carefree with this song before the scary stuff happens. I don't think Taylor Swift was in the video for All Too Well at all and that's one of her best videos. Or Everything Has Changed.

I remember when I was in 7th grade I was in choir. We would have fundraising car washes. Our advisor was a "cool" young guy so we always had it on a corner of a busy and popular street. It was the parking lot of a store that sold stuff for cars, like rims and stereo systems - stuff like that. There was a Burger King across the street and we would all walk there for our break. Across from Burger King was another car parts store, O'Reillys and a grocery store. It was a busy street on a sunny Saturday.

I vividly remember the cool/nice cars would have really loud stereo systems and they would be bumping Fantasy by Mariah Carey. Some of the girls would wear bathing suit tops and use it as an opportunity to tan. We were in 7th grade so we had little girl bodies, but still, it was fun.

I remember Fantasy by Mariah Carey, My Boo by Ghost Town DJs, Love You Down by INOJ, I Wanna Be Down by Brandy, Summertime Summertime by Corina, Release Me by Angelina (a lot of songs from her self titled album), Feel So Good by Lina Santiago.

The video could even be MC's kids and their friends at a car wash. Then Mariah can come pick them up at the end.

Actually the other singers on it sound good and they can stay but Mariah needs more parts. Even background parts like she used to do for Allure.

I know this is wishful thinking but it's fun.

Random thoughts (110,192) by Dove from United States
I just feel like the well is polluted in a lot of today's music in general. I say I don't like overly sexualized celebrities but I enjoy watching Tate McRae and Britney Spears performances and they're "sexy". So am I being a hypocrite? I think the reason they don't come across as vulgar to me is because they're dancers and their bodies are more athletic. It doesn't come across as "porno". (Not that I would know that, but I can imagine.) The body and dance routine is part of the art.

Maybe there are really good dancers/entertainers in the urban market but I wouldn't know that because every time I take a peek over there I'm appalled. Like that WAP song I mentioned in one of my previous posts. It's not just "urban" music either - it's my people too. Sometimes I look to see what's new and I see people like Karol G with their big fake booties gyrating on the stage. I don't enjoy Madonna and her antics either. So I don't think it's about race.

When I was younger I really enjoyed Brandy, Monica, SWV, TLC. Maybe they were pushed to do mainstream music, and that's why I liked it, but honestly sometimes I can't really tell the difference. If it sounds good to me it sounds good to me. In grade school I really liked Boyz II Men and MC Hammer.

All of Mariah's music sounds good to me. I have really been enjoying Caution, MOAIA, and MIAMTEC lately and those are supposed to be really urban.

I'm sorry my posts are so long but I've been having a lot of thoughts lately and I feel like this is the appropriate place to leave my "permanent digital glitter trail".

Article: The making of Mariah Carey (110,182) by Dove from United States
I love this article and these looks. I love the oversized coat jacket look but only for a photoshoot, let's please not go from one extreme to another.

I wanted to clarify my "sometimes vulgar" comment in my last post. I wasn't saying most of her ensembles are vulgar, there are a lot of looks I love, too. I love the gold dress for the BET performance, the black ensemble at Capital's Summertime Ball, the Jimmy Kimmel animal print look I would have rated 100 if the top part had just covered a little bit more of her chest. The pink sparkly dress when she's mixing the cake mix was really pretty, again I would have loved it more if she would have covered just a bit more of her chest.

I don't wish for her to walk around wearing a burka all day, she's a very beautiful woman. I don't love overly sexual looks on anyone. But that's just my opinion. I'm going to support her no matter what she chooses to wear. I'll always have an opinion about it, though.

The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,181) by Dove from United States
Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with any of her music, I pretty much love all of it. What I don't love is the sometimes vulgar ensemble choices. And I miss when she was more open and had funny stories to share about her life in interviews. Now it's always the same questions and short responses.

The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,134) by Dove from United States
It's funny that you mention that because I was thinking about it, and I started to write a post about it, but then I deleted it because I didn't want it to be taken the wrong way. But since you brought it up I'm just going to go for it and hopefully nobody gets offended. I don't even know how to start so I'm just going to bleed on here and hopefully it makes sense to someone.

My mom and my dad (who raised me) are Mexican so I grew up as a poor child of immigrants and my dad was a really mean alcoholic back then. I didn't see him sober until I was an adult. We lived in a military town and there was also an Indian reservation next to our town. Also, my mom was raped by a white military guy, and that's how I was conceived.

So I'm a light skinned Mexican, and technically half white, but culturally I'm Mexican. Spanish was my first language. I'm just giving that backstory to say that I don't think I'm better than anyone. I grew up in the ghetto with a clinically depressed mom and an alcoholic dad who hated me because everyone would always ask him why I was white. What happened to my mom was the worst thing that ever happened to her in her whole life.

I was thinking about it and mostly the people who have big breasts, and hips, and behinds are Blacks and Latinas where I live. You can't turn on the TV on the Spanish channels without seeing half naked very young women, meanwhile the men are all old and pervy looking. I don't watch BET (or much TV anymore for that matter, mostly YouTube) but I feel like it's similar. The women are overly sexualized. I don't like it. And it's not a culture thing because the older black and Mexican artists don't dress or act that way.

I think they (the powers that be) do it on purpose so that minorities won't get ahead. It's systemic oppression. Older black women are IMO some of the wisest people to exist because of all they've been through. There's a few on YouTube I like to watch and listen to.

There's one lady who has six kids by five different dads and she had her first one at 16. She says that back then she didn't know better so she would just have sex with whoever. None of the dads would help her with the kids, either. Her own dad wasn't in her life so she was just looking for love wherever she could get it.

She is a smart, wise, and very sweet lady. If her legs hadn't been cut out from under her so early she could have been really successful. But she never even had a chance. She's finally doing it now, but her kids, who would have benefited from it the most, are all grown up now.

She said she used to work so much that her kids had to stay home alone a lot and she hardly spent any time with them. Luckily they did stay inside the house and didn't go out and hang out with other impressionable and inexperienced young kids on the street and get into other types of trouble.

I'm not saying sex is bad. It's beautiful but it's also "death energy" and it shouldn't be thrown around and used so flippantly. Sex can change your whole life. If you have a child, the old you dies forever. Maybe for rich celebrities it doesn't matter because they can still survive and be comfortable but people on the bottom half of the income bracket - they're the ones who are really going feel it and suffer.

And now they want to make abortions illegal. If they're going to do that they should at least make birth control free.

(Also, because I know someone is going to say it, I do believe in God but I don't think God would be against abortion in all cases. I don't agree with every single thing the church says. I'm more spiritual than religious and I believe you can still be a good person with morals and a strong relationship with God even if you're not religious.)

I like to watch Bj Invesigates/That Surprise Witness on YouTube. I don't agree with every single thing she says but a lot of it I do. (Most of it I do.) In this video she talks about how in 1991 music started changing because it started to be used as a "rap to prison pipeline". They want to continue using blacks and other minorities as slaves. Everyone should watch this because I always kind of suspected this but she spelled it out so clearly.

I have another conspiracy theory. I think the real reason the Kardashians have kids with black men is because those kids are going to be the future influencers and they want to lead the lower income blacks and minorities astray. Mixed people look ambiguous. IMO they're the most beautiful because they get the best of the gene pools and they appeal to a larger group of people because they could be anything. We like seeing ourselves succeeding and doing great things through other people on TV. We follow them. We want to be like them.

There's a movie I watched a while ago called The Joneses. It's with Demi Moore. It's about stealth advertising and how they use real celebrities and manufactured ones (like the Kardashians) to get people to buy stuff they can't afford to keep them stuck running on the slave wheel.

I know this was a mess but hopefully you guys understand what I'm trying to say. I just want celebrities to be better influences on the youth who are so impressionable and just need someone to look up to.

I hope I don't sound hypocritical because I do enjoy Mariah's "sexy" songs and I like sexy clothes sometimes but at times it crosses a line and it's not sexy anymore. I don't even know what it is.

Sugar Sweet (110,132) by Dove from United States
When I listened to the lyrics to Sugar Sweet, the first thing I thought of was that song "I don't cook, I don't clean, but let me tell you how I got this ring." Which I had actually never heard before, but I saw a meme with those lyrics and I had to look it up. So she's saying she's going to do dirty things until she gets an engagement ring? Or maybe dirty things in a nice and sweet way?

I don't think that's how she really feels though, I think it's just a song. I don't think she trusts men anymore, and honestly, when you're that rich you shouldn't even get married IMO.

Ugh I just remembered when Nick was presenting at the BET awards in 2014 and Zendeya asked him if he had any advice for an up and comer. He said, "Marry well" or something tacky like that. Yuk. This was when their divorce was happening so it felt like an icicle right through my heart. (Vicariously.)

I think she doesn't trust men anymore because of some of the lyrics in Type: Dangerous.

They wanna settle down but I just don't trust 'em
They wanna lock me down, but there's no handcuffin' said we'd be together, but you didn't stay forever now I guess it's just whatever 'til the twelfth of never.

I just played it because I didn't remember the lyrics and it gave me chills when she sang, "I've never been afraid of love."

I mean, I'm traumatized by love so maybe I'm projecting. But people always put their best face forward at first and then once they know they've got your heart they start neglecting you and the "love" goes away. People should wait like seven years before they get married. I think that's how long it takes to really know someone. I read that in a book one time and I wish I would have heeded that advice. I'm glad she's not afraid of love though. I love that for her.

Sugar Sweet also reminds me of Rock the Boat by Aaliyah.

They say she's the same but she isn't the same (110,121) by Dove from United States
Did you guys ever watch Roseanne? Does anyone remember how they switched the actresses who played Becky? It confused DJ and landed him in therapy.

I was talking with my childhood friend about how MC looks like completely different people (both beautiful) at the beginning of her career and now.

(Sidenote: of course it's expected that she would look different, everyone does with time, but since she still looks so young I don't expect her to look so different. It feels like five years instead of thirty, you know?)

She started saying "They say she's the same but she isn't the same" but we couldn't remember where it was from. So I finally remembered and looked up the episode.

We laughed so hard. It would be funny if MC did a skit like this with John Goodman. It's been so long now that probably nobody would remember this episode anymore, though. This was a highly rated show, does anyone else remember the episode where DJ says this?

Anyway, I'm going to add a link so maybe somebody else can get a good laugh too.

2025 BET performance (110,120) by Dove from United States
I was just rewatching the BET performance in the gold dress and her girls looked fine there. I think a push-up bra was the culprit on Jimmy Kimmel - it was pushing too hard. I wasn't as offended with them in the gold dress, though.

The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,115) by Dove from United States
For sure we all change and for sure there will never be another artist like Mariah Carey ever again. It's just jarring sometimes because she seems like a completely different person. It's as if Taylor Swift suddenly turned into Madonna. We're all here still supporting, buying the albums, and streaming the songs.

We're still fans but this is a message board where fans share their thoughts, ideas, grief, joy, whatever. I don't feel like anyone is being disrespectful and Mariah is going to keep doing whatever she damn well pleases because she can. She's the artist. And we're all going to come back here and talk about it and reminisce about the old times.

I remember when MOAIA came out I didn't automatically love it and now it's one of my favorites. Maybe in 10 years Sugar Sweet will be my favorite MC song. Just because I'm a little prudish and uncomfortable with boobs out right now doesn't mean I'll always feel that way. Maybe when I'm an old lady and my own boobs sag like tube socks down to the floor, I'll appreciate looking at other people's perky ones on the TV more..

I'm half kidding but half not.

Wow. I wasn't here when it got that bad. That sucks. I remember him being rude sometimes, but not abusive.

Honestly though, I grew up around some abusive people, and then my first husband was an abuser, so sometimes it feels normal to me and I don't notice it.

I hope Andrew, and I, and whoever else needs it, heals.
