About this_is_qhm from the Philippines: I love the intricate vocal harmonies only Mariah can make.

Re: 3rd Christmas album (79,927) (79,929) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I think I've also posted something similar to this in the past. Sure, it would be great to have another Christmas album, especially if she covers my favorite songs:
Last Christmas
Baby, It's Cold Outside (since George Michael isn't around anymore, then let this be a duet with Michael Bublé)
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
Santa Baby
White Christmas
I'll Be Home For Christmas
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Angels We Have Heard On High
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
Mistletoe And Holly
Happy Holiday
Winter Wonderland
The Christmas Song
Grown-up Christmas List
Merry Christmas Darling
And of course and original song or two. That's an album right there.

Re: All I Want chart prediction (79,865) (79,866) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
That's great. 7 is excellent - higher than expected - especially for a song that's been released at a time when most of today's music fans haven't been born yet. The hype resulting from that should somehow help keep it in rotation for the next week, where it could probably chart even higher.
Another huge achievement here, should she really enter the top 10, is that she was able to achieve it mostly on streaming, which is increasingly becoming the true measure of popularity in music these days, and is always a challenge for older artists. Not even Britney or Alicia achieve big streaming numbers anymore.

AIWFCIY at #11, again...so far... (79,820) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I personally think and hope that the chances for this to break into the top 10 are higher this year as it seems to have reached this position quite earlier than it did in the past (please correct me if I'm wrong). Once that's done, no matter what position it will be, the overwhelming positive press that is sure to follow will be highly beneficial for her especially after this very tough year. And if it does, it would be just the perfect PR story - legend kicks off 2017 in the worst way possible and ends it with the best chart performance she's had in years - for a song that has been released over two decades ago. Imagine the headlines. A lot of us will surely get emotional. Okay enough daydreaming - let's pray this finally works out for her this time. Second to great health, AIWFC for Mariah is a top 10 with this perennial hit.

Re: Glitter OST (79,772) (79,779) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I feel the same. Mariah's version of Didn't Mean To Turn You On is just as good as Robert Palmer's hit, but superior to the Cherelle original. However, I also feel like it wasn't released because the production, as brilliant as it is, was only a shortened version of the Cherelle one. Aside from Mariah's performance and the omission of "I" in the title, pretty everything else is the same, making her version way too close to the original which was expected as both versions were still produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. However, I don't think it would have been that big of a hit back then anyway. In 2001, it was just too soon to bring the 80s back. Loverboy made it to #2 mostly on sheer hype and Mariah's undeniable star power at the time.

Still with the race thing? Really? (79,730) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Exactly. This is exactly how the song Outside came to be. Mariah grew up and old never really knowing where to fit in at all. She can never be too white, and yet she cannot fully identify as black. She just can't win. It's hard to be feel great and take full ownership of your ethnicity when you are not allowed by society to be too much of one and/or the other. And while we do love criticizing Mariah for both rational and irrational reasons, there is a line - and please, for the love of humanity let the issue of race should be that line. This was something she was born with and into, and I cannot believe that we still have to explain these matters in [censored] 2017. Unbelievable. These days, this issue comes up and it's like, "By the way, the 1950s called - they want their bigotry back."

Charmbracelet at 15 (79,631) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
As grating as her whispery vocal delivery may be here at times, I will still have a special place in my heart for Charmbracelet because it was the first Mariah album I ever owned (in cassette back then). Unlike most of the world, Through The Rain was a massive hit here in the Philippines - it was like Hero for the 2000s and it was sung in every Sunday noontime variety show as well as all the popular local singing contests. Such success even spilled over to Boy (I Need You), which was also a sizeable hit in our country at the time. Even I Only Wanted got more airplay than Bringin' on the Heartbreak.
Some songs on Charmbracelet are always gonna make me hit "repeat". TTR is still uplifting. Boy (INY) reminds us of a time when Mariah still was imaginative with her videos. Yours features perhaps Mariah's most meandering melody. IOW is still the perfect third chapter to her Latin-tinged saga of longing (My All and After Tonight, parts 1 and 2 respectively). Something about You Had Your Chance's melodic hook will always sound Cantopop-inspired to me. Lullaby is the sequel to The Roof, but sonically is the yin to that song's yang. Subtle Invitation is probably one of the classiest Mariah has ever sounded, even when she lets loose towards the end. Bonus track There Goes My Heart has a sweet, tropical vibe that Mariah has yet to employ again in any of her recordings since. And outtake Miss You never fails to get me going with its complicated chorus.
A lot of people can be quite dismissive of the album. As a package, Charmbracelet is the amalgam of whatever Mariah wanted to get out of her system post-Glitter, that has primed her for one of the most impressive comebacks in pop music history. That's its significance in her discography. It humanized her.

Wendy talks about Mariah Carey's new manager (79,500) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Have you seen (or heard, as it is just audio) this? First of all, this woman is the very definition of "fairweather fan". But she does manage to raise some interesting points. Unless the goal is to make people care about her like it was 1995, Mariah's career is easier to manage now because the demand for her isn't what it was 10 years ago, not because of Wendy's dumb reason. I agree that Bryan is also just a phase in Mariah's life, and that he has no business meddling in a legend's life, but then again she lets him, so lucky him. The most divisive thing Wendy said was that Mariah should stop making new music because her catalogue is already good enough. Partially true - if by "no one" she means a good chunk of the current music-buying population, and if by "stop" she means stop making sub-par songs like Infinity and Infamous.
I truly believe Mariah still has it in her to make a great album. If Janet Jackson at 49 was able to bounce back (at least quality-wise) in 2015 after having two artistically and critically dry efforts released in 2006 and 2008, I don't see why Mariah can't.
And Wendy must just shut up. She may be able to squeeze iotas of truth and sense out of the shady mess that gushes out of her mouth, but we could come up with better versions of those on our own and we definitely don't need them spoonfed to us by her.

Today's teens do not know Fantasy (79,474) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Have you watched this clip of Generation Z kids not knowing the iconic Fantasy? Half of me worries for the future of music while the other half is glad that these kids, no matter now questionable their choice of words can be (what the hell does "vibey" mean in this context, or in any context at all?), they still
1) know a great voice when they hear one
2) actually know Mariah and her unique tone
3) appreciate the brilliance of the song.
I just hope the trivia they featured wasn't the usual 5-octave range thing, but rather about how Fantasy brought hip-hop and pop collaborations to the forefront of music and commercial success.

Mariah and racism (79,417) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
If Mariah were racist in any way consistently throughout her entire career, you'd think a juicy tidbit like that would have spread like wildfire. 27 years in, this is definitely a weird time to start reading into things way too much. And it is way too late in the game to start making up issues that don't exist in the first place. And even if Mariah did pick collaborators and chose the people to surround herself with by their skin color (still preposterous, I could barely type that without laughing), that would still just be racial preference - which is not the same as racism. Growing up as a biracial person has opened her eyes to how difficult it is to be discriminated against because of something she had no control over. As wacko as she is and as insufferable as she can be sometimes, I still believe that Mariah isn't heartless enough to inflict that pain on others. Otherwise, her song Outside would be a fraud, which is highly doubtful as well. Get it together guys.

Article: Now what for music's ditsy-est diva? (79,264) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Funny how some would always refer to Mariah as a ditzy diva as if that's her defining characteristic. For amassing such net worth, accomplishing everything she has so far and having a career spanning almost 3 decades - sure, that's what ditzy looks like. Yup, that's my takeaway from this article.

Shania's Come on Over turns 20 (79,242) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The bestselling country album and bestselling album by a female artist, Come on Over, is 20 years old this week. That album is just major. It was truly all killer, no filler - literally every song could have been released as a single, and the many ones that did are really, really memorable. Not even any of Taylor's country albums could compete with how Shania expertly married pop and country on that album. Although far-fetched, I still hope she and Mariah could collaborate in any way. From the sound of her voice on her latest album, it seems like her singing range has also become more limited than what she had in the 90s, just like Mariah. I've seen videos of her praising Mariah so she's clearly a fan. A duet would surely be a treat.

Stella's gone (79,195) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Christmas came early. Now let us brace ourselves for the aftermath. Let's see how Stella shares her version of this to the press. While we're all watching how all of this will unfold, Mariah might as well lose the fake bloodsucking boytoy, too. On to the next. I hope we don't ever get to a point where we recall Stella fondly. I don't think I'm ready for that just yet.

Current playlist (79,096) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
It's been a while since we've seen lists on here. Check your top 10 most played current hits and post it here. Go. Mine goes:
10. Way Back (TLC & Snoop Dogg) - This G-funk cut still brings the 90s back like nothing else.
9. In The Name (LeToya Luckett) - I feel like I'm the only one from this board who listens to this ex-Destiny's Child member in 2017.
8. Back To You (Louis Tomlinson & Bebe Rexha) - Yeah, I do listen to an ex-One Direction dude, so persecute me.
7. Wonder Woman (JoJo) - It's a track randomly dropped out of nowhere, but excellent nonetheless.
6. Ready For It (Taylor Swift) - An improvement over Look What You Made Me Do, this girl is really trying to erase all memories her old self and sound.
5. How Long (Charlie Puth) - This is even better and catchier than Attention, and that's saying something.
4. Selfish Love (Jessie Ware) - Recently posted about this. It's a crime this isn't doing better.
3. The Weekend (SZA) - A really sultry slow jam about not minding sharing your lover with others.
2. Disco Tits (Tove Lo) - Only Tove has the audacity to name a track like that. It's highly addictive.
1. Havana (Camila Cabello & Young Thug) - This is the sexiest top 40 track to come out this year so far. Best recent execution of the Latin influence as well. The finest Rihanna track that RiRi didn't make.
Bonus: While We're Young (Jhene Aiko) - ambient and very relaxing. The autotuned-but-not vocals are still very much on point.
What are yours?

Re: My All (79,052) (79,063) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Beats me as well. The My All video is sexy and appealing, but her Honey clip is still her best video. A little anticlimactic, the ending is all sorts of cheese, but overall it's still one of her most re-watchable visuals. It reminds us of a time when Mariah actually genuinely cared about her music career. She had a statement to make and a point to prove. These days, she's limbo in human form.

George Michael back at #1 (79,053) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Congratulations to "The Singing Greek" on Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 returning to #1 after 27 years. Despite the strong competition, the classic never lost its shine. Although not my favorite album from him, I cannot deny the excellent craftsmanship behind it. Considered as his rebellious album, it's a shame the issue with Sony at the time killed all chances of releasing its volume 2. Still, this triumph is a proof of his brilliance and the quality of his output. I love Heal The Pain, Freedom '90, Praying For Time and Soul Free. R.I.P. George.

Jessie Ware - Glasshouse (79,024) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
So Jessie's latest offering dropped last week, and as expected, it's the most sophisticated set of tunes that's been released in a long period, a breath of fresh air among a sea of mostly brash, generic or dumb music that have been filling the airwaves. One of the many standout tracks is second single Selfish Love. It's exactly what an unhealthy tropical summer fling sounds like. If you're as swept by the guitar work and the sexy, Sade-ish vibe as I am, then it's probably because it's produced by Happy Perez - yeah, the guy who was also behind #Beautiful. So Mariah, if you're ever gonna do a Latin-tinged track again, you know who to call.

Re: JT to return to the Superbowl (79,006) (79,014) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
A lot of conspiracy theorists, especially back then, believed the Superbowl incident was planned - breast exposure and all. If that were true, it was an extremely stupid publicity stunt. Well the original plan was that Justin would tear off the outer layer of Janet's outfit after he sings the line "...have you naked at the end of this song", and then when he rips it off, it would reveal the red lace bra underneath. The intention was obvious because of the choice of bra color, which would stand out against her black outfit. It was in the actual execution of the plan that things have gone wrong. Apparently, either Janet's ensemble wasn't made well enough to suit the plan or Justin may just have unintentionally gripped too much of the fabric. Had this not happened, Janet's underrated album Damita Jo which was due for release at the time would have performed even better (it almost knocked Usher's Confessions off the top spot, which in 2004, was the album to beat). Its singles would have also fared better, especially the brilliant Kanye-produced (and my favorite) I Want You. You could tell the public demand for Janet was still very strong despite the mishap. But after the blacklisting and boycotting that followed, Janet, a visual artist, didn't really stand a chance after being punished by the very media entities that made her the star that she is - MTV and VH1, along with all the radio stations that used to be play her material on heavy rotation. The much sadder fact is that this carried on years later enough to stifle Feedback's success in 2008. In fact, it still lingers to this day.

JT to return to the Superbowl (78,995) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I know this is off-topic, and I thought after 13 years I was able to move on, but this is just saddening. I mean, I like Justin and part of me is actually excited that he may use it as a platform for his return to music with new material, but a bigger part of me feels bad for Janet, who Justin has admittedly left in the dirt following the infamous wardrobe malfunction incident. Justin has pretty much gotten away scot-free, while Janet has been demonized, blacklisted for several years and practically shunned, the side effects of which still linger to this day. It was truly inconsiderate of Justin to just leave a legend (whose performing talent and contributions to popular music and culture are greater than what he will ever achieve in several lifetimes) alone to deal with the most brutal backlash and carping in music history since Madonna circa 1992. It also proves that, even in 2017, the harsh truth of men getting away easily for acts that women are punished for is still very much true. I think he needs to make amends with Janet before he hits the stage. Or actually surprise everyone and bring her up on stage. But then again, the sexist powers that be wouldn't let that happen, would they? Justice for Janet.

Re: George Michael (78,972) / biopics (78,979) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The Freedom documentary was great. What elevates it from other documentaries is that George did much of the storytelling. The only thing missing is input from people closest to George - family and close friends who aren't superstars. Nonetheless, he truly was a phenomenal artist.
It's nice that some biopics and music documentaries in the past few years have been as great as this one, such as Whitney's, Amy's and Gaga's. It's a shame Mariah doesn't know what a documentary is and came up with that deplorable piece of garbage which did not live up to its title and basically revealed nothing that the public doesn't already know. If it was put out to villainize Mariah and tarnish her legacy, then it's surely done a fantastic job with that and then some.

Madonna's Erotica turns 25 (78,955) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
We interrupt this program to recognize yet another great album reaching a milestone this week.
Happy 25th birthday to Madonna's Erotica, arguably the first mainstream pop album to entirely focus on sex from the female perspective. Released months before the more commercial yet similarly themed janet., Madonna powered through one of the worst critical public responses ever and came out with 2 top 10 hits. The title track, Deeper and Deeper, Rain and Bad Girl are classics. And the rest of the album tracks are killer as well. This is the most important album of her career, and she has never been as daring as she was on Erotica. This makes all the sex-themed albums from current artists seem like child's play. Wanna make an album about sex? This is how you do it - classy, frank and with a naughty, knowing wink. Not bad at all for an album that was deemed vulgar and widely regarded as smut at its time of release.

The Star (78,904) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
This has been Mariah's most commercially palatable single in a looooong time. If all goes well, this could soar up the charts due to its universal appeal to all age demographics, easily distinguishable melody and straightforward delivery. Its success might highly depend on how the film fares in the box office. Here's hoping. Mariah please promote this. Sing it back to back with AIWFCIY in all guestings and shows you have for the next 2 months.

Re: Article: Carey on (78,865) (78,874) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I think this is just a testament to have bad things have really gotten. Since 2013 all the fans have ever done was subconsciously lower the bar she set for herself. Really. Every time she's gonna perform live through the years, our reactions went from:
1990-1996: "Whatever happens, she's gonna bring the house down."
1997-2000: "All the hardwork and her new lifestyle is taking a toll on her voice, but she's gonna pull it off."
2001-2004: "She's gonna lip some parts here and there, but she's still gonna wow people."
2005-2009: "Her voice clearly ain't what it used to be, but her newfound confidence still shines through."
2010-2012: "She's becoming a lot less consistent live, and her success on stage is getting increasingly dependent on her lifestyle."
2013-2017: "Her delivery is sounding more labored and she can barely reach the money notes without pushing for them. She has gotten even more stoic and for some reason, whatever she is comfortable doing in her concerts is absent in her TV 'performances'."
Things have gotten so bad and half-assed that our brains have been rewired to praise her for the most minimal display of efforts from her regardless of actual payoff. And that is how we have become way too considerate. Because Foxwoods was a lot better that what we've seen from her lately.
If she couldn't sing certain parts, then as an expert of vocal saves, it baffles me that Mariah would rather poorly depend so much on prerecorded vocals than find her way around things and switch arrangements. Even Whitney, during her last public performances, was not afraid to keep it real with the fans at the risk of disappointing them. She'd often take breaks, at times even during performances to take a sip of water. Some fans were understandably pissed, but at least she was being honest. And a lot of us would take honesty over all the fuss in the name of keeping up the rotting facade that she can still hit the soaring climaxes with such ease while struggle in the verses that are closer to her speaking voice.
And consideration is fine if money isn't part of the equation. People should get at least what they pay for, especially at the price she charges. When you're Mariah Carey, you know people didn't go to your show to see you bust out some moves much less constantly feel yourself all over or awkwardly gyrate against anything vertical. People went there to see you sing, not So you should do whatever it takes to keep your calling card in the best shape possible. Tours can exist without alcohol or constant partying. Getting enough rest is a personal decision. There are real, competent managers that aren't named Stella.

Article: Now he's touching her body (78,763) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I could go off right now, but it does get tiring to repeatedly describe Mariah's outfits a certain way. You know your eyeshadow's bad when you can see it in all its freshly-punched-looking glory from a distance. Right now, she's got different priorities, I'm just glad she's still around, even in questionable wardrobe choices.

Simmer down, sir. Funny how you could call out perceived vitriol when you dish it yourself. Respect the guy responsible for you still being able to post here. It's been well established that this is a fair Mariah fansite where even the most fairweather fans check in and get brutal. We do need more fans like you, very protective and ready to defend Mariah anytime as much as we need our Andrew-types for balance. But we all need the webmaster to keep running this site first. It wouldn't have lasted as long as it still does if it were like fake happy rose-colored fan sites out there.

The Velvet Rope turns 20 (78,684) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'm probably gonna take some crap for this but if there is any album in 1997 that could rival Butterfly, it would be The Velvet Rope. Also Janet's magnum opus, it was just as introspective, and even more painful and experimentally diverse. Like Butterfly, it also aged the best among all of Janet's albums. I just love the fact that two of my favorite 90s albums from my two favorite female artists were released just weeks apart and coincidentally share the same soul-baring theme and effortlessly sensuous vibe. And of course, TVR contains both Together Again and the masterpiece I Get Lonely amongst a collection of other really strong tracks, such as Rope Burn, Go Deep, My Need, the title track and a gender-flipping cover of Tonight's The Night. Sadness has never sounded this good. Happy 20th, TVR.
