Mary J. Blige's Thick of It video (68,113)

Simple yet classy. I'm almost overwhelmed by all the gold tones everywhere. Mariah, this is what maturity and acting your age looks like, in case you forgot. Enough of the fake-sexy shtick. It worked for you before. It still works for other lesser singers close to your current age. But somehow it's just awkward coming from you now. Must be too forced.

Now you're making a really convincing point. He could be Morgan or at the very least be a member of the Carey clan to know such private information, not to mention the tone the posts are stated in - that blend of genuine concern, affection, anger and the pain that can only come from an estranged relative, close friend, or family member. Whether he is or isn't doesn't really matter - he is still one of those few posters who can break the monotony that this board can slip into at times. Acquired taste.

With all of his more recent appearances with Mariah that usually don't make sense or are just confusing in general, he strikes me as: - a thirsty choreographer who wants to be on DWTS so badly - a desperate opportunist who's enjoying his 15 minutes of fame-by-association a bit too much - Mariah's closeted gay BFF (though he may very well be really straight but he sure acts like one) - a clueless hitchhiker who is yet to realize that the trip he tagged along with may turn out to be more that what he bargained for - to give him the benefit of the doubt, he simply may be a sincere friend who just hangs out with Mariah a lot (but then again who are we kidding, really)

Let's get superficial (68,061)

Mariah's face and body is flawless complexion wise. I don't wanna be *that* person but if she wants to keep rocking these ill-fitting and malfunctioning get-ups then she's gotta work out more. She's not fat, but she needs toning in some areas. Her diet is clearly working, it's just a matter of coupling that with regular exercise. This may also minimize the "puffy face" she has had post-accident (granting that it wasn't caused by any fillers). Now that we're at a point where "less is not enough" seems to be her mantra when it comes to dressing up, she might as well look bangin' from every angle.

Versace On The Floor (67,964)

See this is exactly why Mariah should collaborate with Bruno Mars. This man is truly talented. Sure, the song gets cheesy in an old 80s high school prom dance way, but this has been the best execution of an 80s throwback I have heard since Carly Rae Jepsen's excellent "All That". Reminds me of something El Debarge or George Benson could have sung back then.

All the effing drama (67,645)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|

What's funny about all this drama is how every sickening update only serves to reveal more and more of how much this situation/"affair" was simply a business relationship gone wrong. Validation for the cynical fans who were doubtful from the start. Mariah - you were never as whip-smart or ruthless as Madonna, but you got yourself into this, now get yourself out. Sad that the kids and the fans are collateral damage.

Let's be completely honest. I'm not one to wish doom on anyone's relationship, but was only a matter of time. "Any fool could forsee the end." (Guess what Mariah song did that line come from.)

Article: The top 10 pop singers of all time (67,465)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

When the list started off with Mariah at number ten, I knew there would be no credibility to this list. I'm feeling really bad for the author. Britney over Madonna? No Janet Jackson? Taylor higher than MJ and Madonna? Taylor an "incredible" singer? Selena made the list? And everyone in here other than MJ and Madonna ranking higher than Mariah? Oh, honey...

Mariah's early Halloween 2016 party (67,462)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Thoughts: 5. I guess Mariah's never gonna opt for an "ugly" Halloween costume where she takes risks and is barely recognizable and stuff. 4. Mariah and James are sooo close that she's photographed with Nick more than her current fiance. Sweet. 3. It's very nice to see that Mariah and Nick are still there for their children no matter what. Sidenote: listening to Gwen Stefani's Cool as I'm typing this right now. Very apt soundtrack for my thoughts. 2. Since 2014, Mariah has, for the most part, weirdly looked either awkward, overly pose-y or stiff in photographs. For this one, though, it's understandable. Like I know it's a costume and it's not supposed to be comfortable, but seriously, can she actually move in that thing? She might as well wear a straitjacket for the occasion and even that would probably give her more space for movement. 1. Ah Stella. I'd ask if she didn't get the memo but who are we kidding here? No, coming to a Halloween party as you would normally dress at a 7/11 on any given Thursday night does not count as participation. P.S. that blush-on has a life of its own. She did fulfill the "scary" brief.

Lady GaGa - Joanne (67,429)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Mother Monster's latest record is quite the departure from her first 4 albums. It's sonically confused and inconsistent, and the material is uneven, but it has some really great moments. And we all know Lady GaGa has always been a rock singer with jazzy tendencies. I love Florence Welch, but Mariah would have slayed "Hey Girl" with GaGa. That production is just addictive. Only a few songs delve into that "Benny and the Jets-esque" sexy stomp these days. The most recent one I've heard was Sara Bareilles' Love On The Rocks. So good.

Article: Mariah Carey films a holiday Carpool Karaoke (67,413)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
When you're the Mariah Carey and Britney does marginally better than you in a Carpool Karaoke segment, I guess there's no other way to go but up. She's looking great. This is the slimmest I have seen her so far, it's especially obvious in her legs. She's flaunting major cleavage but keeping everything else covered up. With the long black dress earlier and then this - is she finally learning to dress more appropriately again? Looks like she's gearing up for something. Hope she tones down the preening and the divaisms. I'm excited.

Okay let's see: So out of the $1000, 150 actually goes to Mariah, 100 for the production costs, 50 for the venue rent and the remaining amount for Stella's Ursula-inspired makeup and her entire lineage following Mariah around wherever she goes.

If I remember correctly, Lady GaGa was named WOTY last year, and that decision by Billboard confused a lot of people as well, even sparking some rumors of payola. Nonetheless, Billboard clearly has its own "criteria", and if it's straight-outta-far-left-field decisions like this that will define this honor for the years to come instead of going with the more obvious artists who've had the most commercial success in a year, then I'm all for it because that means Mariah has a better chance of being honored in the future.

First off, advanced happy birthday. It's always a good idea to reward yourself by listening to music that you love any day, let alone your birthday. While I do understand the advantages of being signed to a major record label, that's granting that the label completely believes in you and backs you, your vision, and your project up 100%. Otherwise, it's pointless. Given Mariah's recent commercial disappointments when it comes to her releases, I don't think any record label, not even the one she's with now, is gonna be all-out in promoting any new material from her. So if she's really just doing this for the music, then I'd say ditch the label and release the music independently. Should it fall on deaf ears, at least it's not because of some fancy company's false promises. I agree with you. Just release the damn music.

I feel the same way. I love it and the title track, so soulful. That's the centerpiece of the album right there. I just wish she could have included Thinkin Out Loud (I know I posted this before but it's just so lovely in its simplicity) from her previous EP #LoveJo2. It would have fit right in with the album's atmospherics.

Exactly. Even in the video department, though Bey's self-titled visual album and Lemonade are really, really well executed, they pale in comparison to Madonna's earlier masterpieces. That woman pretty much created and dominated MTV (yup, not even MJ). Seriously you just can't compare those to what she was able to achieve with Vogue, Rain, Take A Bow, Bedtime Story, Erotica, Express Yourself (the list goes on) using more primitive equipment.

I'm so happy for Madonna. She truly is a one of a kind artist. No offense to Mariah (she'll still be the best vocalist who popularized the pop/R&B and hip-hop fusion still ubiquitous today) or anyone here, but Madge is the single most influential female artist out there, period. She's not the best singer, but she's the one who made the best use of her limited instrument, and at a time when expressing female sexuality was repressed and even frowned upon, she willingly threw herself out there first and powered through every harsh criticism that has been aimed at her. She practically invented shock tactics, and this zero-f***s feminist movement that Bey and Riri have going on right now still seem like child's play compared to what Madonna did in the 80s and 90s. And even though her more recent musical outputs have not been as inspiring, you can still hear some parts here and there that remind you of how she came up with some of the most thrilling pop music in history. Congrats to quite possibly the smartest, most successful, and most recognized woman in music. Well deserved. And yeah, Mariah, you're up next.

The Mariah - Beyoncé comparison (67,278)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
In Bey's defense, she does take a lot of risks. Her last two albums are partly responsible for pushing alternative and progressive R&B to the mainstream, something only The Weeknd and Miguel were doing back then. Her last great song, though, is Love On Top. It was so well constructed that it's the only other Beyoncé song (the other one being Me, Myself and I) than I wish were Mariah's. I will say this, though - the real reason why M and B get compared so many times on this board is because what B is now (hardworking, focused, creative), Mariah was in the 90s, with more humility and commercial success, but met with much less critical acclaim. And that's what most upsets us - she didn't get the thing she deserved the most even when she was at her best.

Even by treading the same musical ground since TEOM she already managed to alienate a lot of her fans mostly with her image and antics, so now I'm thinking maybe a more drastic sound shift won't really matter that much. If she falls flat on her face for it, then at least she tried something different.
