I'm sure most of you saw MC tweet this. Have to say I'm looking forward to hearing the vocals on the new dance remix in full quality. I'm still surprised she did MLB with cracked ribs, nerve damage, and a dislocated shoulder. Speedy recovery, Mariah.

Just for fun (38,749)

So, I was watching some of my MC videos the other day and thinking about how much I appreciate her sense of humor. It is an aspect of her personality I've always found endearing. I've found her humor is often misunderstood by people as well. This got me to thinking about starting a topic to discuss funny moments over the the years. She's had so many, one that I absolutely love, one that always sticks out to me and never fails to make me laugh is her reaction during an interview when she was jokingly asked if she would rather be a turkey? Or a ham? LMAO. Combined with fits of laughter, Mariah wants to clarify for some reason whether or not she's a cooked ham, or a cooked turkey. Lol It is complete absurd silliness, but it is hilarious to me. Her reactions are priceless, and it is rare to see her that relaxed. If the topic is of no interest, move along. I won't be offended. Just thought it might be fun. Lol.

Looking In (38,699)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

Hi everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed MC at MLB and was floored to hear "Looking In". I always related to that song on such a deep level. I'm not sure I can find the words to describe how much both Looking In and Close My Eyes meant to me. They were like comforting friends that expressed perfectly how I was feeling during some incredibly trying, deeply personal experiences. I can understand why she got choked up. Solid live performances. I hope it is true that there's a label change in the works. She hasn't been promoted properly by Def Jam in ages.

Wow, just wow. Wonderful performance all around. I really feel the decision to delay the album was a good one and of all the #Beautiful remixes I think the Young Jeezy one is the strongest. Those new vocals are awesome.

Sigh not sure why the tracks released today are called "remixes" (38,428)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

They have the production value of someone mashing mp3's together on YouTube in 15 minutes. I love MC, but I couldn't even listen to the full tracks. What I love about her epic remixes is when she creates an entirely new sound ala My All/Stay Awhile, The Roof, AWBMB etc. This today truly felt like some sort of practical joke or something. Not my cup of tea.

Album release (38,394)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

I'm glad that the album has been postponed. This might be an unpopular view, but it has been clear watching Mariah and her team in the last month are they not ready. I would much rather have solid seamless promo appearances and a beautiful body of work from start to finish, then something that is rushed and slapped together to make money. I'll happily wait as long as needed rather than be upset or angry about 7/23. In my heart of hearts, I really think Mariah knows "Triumphant" wasn't retrieved well hence why she was obviously uncomfortable during the live performance of it. I do feel she has been re-evaluating her music, personally. There is a part of her that will always gravitate toward hip-hop because she loves doing it. I'm sure there will be some flavors of it on the album, but I really don't think the new album is going to be full of hip hop tracks. Like many of you I can appreciate a track or two of it and I love when her soprano blends well with the right track, but in general I'm not a hip hop fan much at all. If anything MC has educated me and I would not have exposure to it without her. I think she knows a big portion of her fanbase is this way too.

I hope you all are enjoying spring/summer. I enjoyed Mariah's Summer Jam performance. No, it wasn't flawless, but it was fun. I'm very much looking forward to the new album, the title is not what I thought, but it sounds interesting. I would love if she would do #Beautiful on Ellen. Come on, MC.

I'm with Stephen, despite obvious glitches this performance I thought she did really well. No debate about this one being live/dubbed. WBT was great, especially considering being in the morning. #Beautiful had issues obviously, but considering how the song started way early (not sure what that was about?) and the backing track being off and Miguel being off key most of the song - it really went better than it could have gone. Lol. I'll never be one who agrees her "voice is shot", because the fact that she can still hit a song like WBT like that despite having using her voice recording and performing for 23 years, I personally always feel blessed we still see her. Maybe that's just me, but I always feel at this point she could stop anytime, and we might only see her performing as often as someone like Aretha. I will say though, there was room to allow more time to rehearse #Beautiful.

Sometimes I miss the days before the internet lol (37,924)

I think she sounded strong, gorgeous and looked stunning in that gown. It's clear the editing was very questionable, but I truly understand why MC is such a perfectionist with the way people are so ready to pounce after every performance. Sometimes I just wish we could go back to the days where she performed and everyone was just happy to see her. Lol. Don't get me wrong, here, I fully support differing opinions, that's the reality of the internet these days and I wouldn't change or deny anyone's right to feel the way they do. More than anything, I'm just embarrassed her publicist had to make a statement she wasn't lipping. For me, that was always clear listening to it that it was done live. It wasn't until I saw the article did I realize the level to which people must have been talking about it. I really don't think it was the hairy deal some are making it out to be.

I agree. Personally, I enjoyed it. Vocals were strong, she looked amazing. Medley was a bit choppy in spots, but overall I just enjoyed seeing her so much. I disagree that the entire thing was lipped. Nice to have a performance, it's been a long time. I've missed seeing her on stage.

If you feel old at 28, I don't want to say how old I am. Lmao. I've been a Mariah fan literally since she started with VOL. Yep, I don't like every single thing she does, or every decision she makes, but I don't think that's required to respect, admire, experience joy, and be inspired by an artist. Mariah will always be my favorite artist, hands down (and I like many, so that's saying a lot). I feel drawn to not just her music, but also who she is as a person. I just think attempting to "measure" fandom is futile. All it does is divide people, and there is absolutely no point in that. If I disagree with something MC does, it doesn't mean I love her less, it just means we're individuals with different views on certain things. At the end of the day, I love Mariah, it's why I'm here, and it's why we all can get passionate about our opinions - no matter what they are - because we're all invested in her. Disagreeing sometimes with a song, video or outfit occasionally does not mean people hate Mariah. This would hardly be a discussion forum, if everyone said the same thing, and thought the same way.

Examiner (37,880)

Who cares if promotion was bought for one day, if it weren't for the fact MC was involved - this article wouldn't have even gotten published. That's the thing that bugs me. It's called paid advertizing like they used to do with TV spots campaigns for album promo. It's only because MC is the most successful female vocalist that they are trying to make it seem as though this is new in the industry. It's not, and frankly I was happy to see IDJ do their job and back Mariah. They have not been promoting her well for a long time. Singles need momentum, if Beautiful didn't get exposure, people would not request it, period. If the public didn't like Beautiful the song would not continue to be being well liked/requested. Yeah it has fallen since opening day, but it's holding its own. The article is useless. The Examiner saw a chance to use Mariah as a scape goat. *Shocking* lol.

Not a fan of the video aside from the lighting and windblown hair. And I really wanted to love the video as much as I loved the song. And I know she's been doing "sexy" videos for a long time. I get it. Usually, I just let it roll. Lol. But for this song, because I love it so much, I really wanted something less "in your face" and overt sexy. I think a more understated approach would have complimented the lyrics and the relaxed beat of the song, and made the song more accessible to the "every-person" out there watching who can relate to those lyrics and the feeling she's evoking. I'm not saying she has to wear turtlenecks or anything that extreme, I just think it would have been refreshing to see more natural beautiy portrayed in the song as opposed to the kind of sex-kitten. In #Beautiful she doesn't seem comfortable in spots, it lends to feeling persona. The Roof is a good example. Very sexy, less "put on". She was more relaxed and less "trying to be sexy" in The Roof and it worked well. Superficial which isn't the point of the song. I don't know. Just sigh. Lol.

I love the song more than the video (37,798)

Please don't take what I am about to say as slamming MC, because I'm not. I adore her. I love the song, it has been on repeat since I bought it. I like the summer lighting shots and the windblown hair moments, but for me the video loses the song. It's not that Mariah isn't sexy. She's a sexy, gorgeous woman, but honestly #Beautiful for me when I listened to the lyrics although the do indeed allude to being physically beautiful, the opening A** line ect for me the song isn't about the physical part. For me the song captured the feeling of being free, enjoying life, being out in the sun, feeling the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair. Being with someone who makes you feel good and smile so bright it's contagious and makes the other person light up too. Being with someone who sees you from the inside out ("Your mind is #Beautiful") emphasis on the hashtag for that line and what it means to be with someone who is attracted to you for who you are and you essence on the inside. The line about dancing "do it again" brought with it the feeling of how that person who is attracted to you for you finds you sensual in Jeans and a T-shirt. Perhaps I had a different perception of the song than what Mariah intended it to be. I'm fine with sexy, I love the Honey video ect, this just felt overdone to me. Less is always more sexy IMO and I think would have matched up with the song JMO.

I was curious what your thoughts were going to be. I've been listening to #Beautiful most of the day. I just love it. Infectious is a good word. It's just such a summer "feel good in the sunlight" kind of song which makes me feel happy. Honey is a good comparison, because when she did that track IMO it was unlike anything she'd really done previously and I think #Beautiful is kind of similar with the guitar riff, the texture and that strong, confident buttery tone of her vocals. I understand what you are saying about more Mariah and a bridge. I still wish it was longer, not because of length or because I don't love the song, just because I wish there was more of it. Like I wish it would keep going past 3:23, know what I mean? Lol. But I'm just so pleased with the beat, the feeling of it, the quality of the song and the freshness of that I feel even more excited about the potential material on the new album.

Beautiful - a great song for summer (37,718)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

A light, fun breezy song to crank in the car. I love the backing beat and guitar. I don't think I had any expectations, just had a good feeling about it. The song is totally perfect for summer. You still get "the voice" simple at the same time and the production isn't distracting. Their voices blend well, and I think it is different from other stuff on the radio. Yay, MC. My only thought on first play this morning, I do wish the song was longer, it ends too soon. Lol.

I agree with you about Mariah's judging and critiques. I have thoroughly enjoyed her on the show. I'm not going to lie, Mariah was the draw to the show for me. I must say though, I've been impressed with Angie Miller throughout. I have not been impressed with Idol producers' willingness to throw Mariah under the bus. My friends and family are not Mariah fans in the same way I am, so in that sense I consider them to be reflective of "general public", and no one I know feels MC is doing a bad job, or that she's been "too nice" for what that's worth. Many of them have appreciated that she doesn't have a nasty edge to her commentary, and that someone at her level of success can still empathize with everything the singers are trying to do. I wouldn't be surprised if she performs with one of the contestants on finale night. I'm looking forward to downloading Beautiful.

Disney Princess comment, AI (37,686)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
| |
|
|
I really felt that moment on AI this week was a double-edged comment toward singer Angie Miller (neither performance was Disney or Broadway-like to me, and the feedback felt like an unflattering slam, what's constructive there?) and Mariah who just had her "Disney Princess" themed wedding vow renewal. (It's fine btw, if people have issue with Nick and MC doing their vows each year. I get that some people will not respond well to that. I say power to Nick and Mariah, it's their life, keeping romance alive is important , Who cares what others thnk?) And then, Mariah gets told to "have her ears cleaned" (insert cotton swab) when she calls a spade a spade, and exposes mud-slinging for what it is. Not cool at all.
