I agree. I was so excited to learn MC would be singing LTT and IDWC. IDWC has to be one of my favorite ballads. It is always running through my head. She really did a great job with a difficult song. I'm glad to see her taking it easy with the uptempo songs, letting the backing track, dancers, and props take more of the lead. That way she can conserve more of her voice for the ballads which tend to rely on her voice to take the lead. I'm glad to see Vegas is being kind to Mariah. MC has surrounded herself with good professionals who know how to market this gem of a voice. Seems like everything with the show is polished and can only get better from this point. MC needed this. If all goes well, the Vegas residency will really set her up for that next album to blow us all out of the park, lol. (Monday 11 May 2015; 18:23)

Marissa, your post (52,749) is one of the most well written posts of what I've also tried to explain for years. Maybe i'ts an age thing being 37. I just don't get bothered if someone disagrees with me. I don't take it personally if someone loves a song I can't stand. I don't call them out with a post. Love the edit. I honestly think it flows better, especially at the beginning. Many songs start out with the chorus then head into the first verse. I wasn't trying to generalize everyone wanted a #1 song. I like many of her songs better than those that did hit #1. Anyways, there is something missing from Infinity for me too. However, before the song came out, I wasn't expecting a powerhouse hit. I don't think that was the purpose of Infinity or I Stiill Believe for that matter. And it's why I didn't feel this let down upon hearing the song. I bought up ISB because both songs were used as a way to promote the new compilation album. Mariah is going to save her powerhouse hit songs for a full commercial album release. Once Mariah got in a place of personal momentum forward, we were blessed with a amazing album (Rainbow after #1s, TEOM after CB, and ??? after #1 To Infinity). I wasn't trying to generalize every fan was expecting a #1 hit. That wasn't why I wanted to respond. I wanted to maybe bridge the gap of expectations so to speak and maybe remind folks MC is always going to save her best stuff for a full album release. Plus, this song was more about her moving on from Nick. I'll take it an enjoy it as much as I can. And if not, I have so many other MC songs, remixes, galore to listen to, lol. You summed up my long post in just a few sentences. Well put. I agree CB was pure damage control, a forum to give MC an opportunity to go on all the shows and share her side of the breakdown/Glitter debacle. It allowed MC to show she was back and ready to shine again. TTR was never meant to rocket up the charts. It was more of a therapy for MC. Then we got TEOM. Oh my, I love that album. I see the same thing happening here. Different circumstances of course, but she is still coming off a personal setback. What better way to reenter the public eye than by celebrating her 18 #1s. I hope she does well in Vegas which will hopefully set her up for the true comeback with the next studio album. (Monday 27 April 2015; 21:28)

I think those who don't like the song need to take a step back. Remember the first #1s album? MC recorded I Still Believe as a new single to promote the album. That song while nice, remixes are even better, wasn't meant to rocket her back to #1. I don't think it was that kind of song. It was a tribute to BKS. The same goes with Infinity. I think everyone hyped themselves up so much that upon first listen, they were let down when it wasn't that WBT/SIO powerhouse song (which I think is an unfair comparison). It's a song to promote the new #1s collection/Vegas residency. It's a song to help MC move forward. I think she did her best to write a song to please radio, but more for herself. I'm hopeful that when the time comes for a new album of songs, MC will create those radio friendly, powerhouse singles. For now, though, it's all about reminding folks about her accomplishments. Similar to ISB, Infinity is meant to get her back on track, not rocker her up to #1. (Monday 27 April 2015; 21:08)

I like it. Um if any of us ever had any thoughts MC and would get back together, um this song just "shut that door", lol. It's a different sound, sort of a return to her more pop sound (still R&B though), but one I think radio could get behind. Do I think it will go to #1? If I'm being honest, probably not. I like the updated cover and title. It reminds people what she's accomplished and the sky is the limit. It's a bit too photo-shopped for my taste, but it is what it is. I like the use of social media to get the word out. The idea of having fans share on Facebook, Twitter to help speed up the release was genius. I think it's smart of Sony Reid & Co to help Ms. MC embrace the power of social media. She can use the Reveal Mariah for not only this upcoming CD release, but new albums in the future. Here comes the but. You knew there was one with me, lol. While her Vegas show is focusing on her 18 #1 hits, this is also the year she is celebrating 25 years in the music business. Her catalog of hits is unsurpassed. I would have liked to have seen a box set of sorts. CD #1 being the 18 #1 hits plus the song Infinity. CD #2 being her amazing catalog of remixes. I remember hearing ABMB featuring Da Brat and Xscape. I had no idea Mariah remixed practically most of her single releases. Her remixes are better than some of the originals, IMO. Wow. Why not include a CD of all her remixes, the rare ones like Butterfly (Meme), ATYNAF, Dreamlover (which put her remixes on the map), etc. Include the radio edits so you can fit a ton of songs on the CD. CD #3 should contain live performances from SNL '90 to Proctor's Theatre '93 to Divas Live '98, '00, Grammy's '06. Oh and don't forget her amazing performance of Butterfly on SNL '98. Then CD #4 could contain rare B-sides like Slipping Away, DYTOM, EFA, Skydiving, HMMITTN, etc. Songs that I'm sure the general public hasn't heard. She has had amazing career and I was hoping for some sort of giant release to coincide with Vegas to remind folks that no other female singer comes close to what this lady has accomplished. In the end though, it seems MC, Sony Reid and Co have their promotion organized. I just was hoping for something a bit more. (Tuesday 14 April 2015; 7:08)

Why not? I'll throw my hat into the ring. The year was 1993. I was 16 in my family room cleaning up. I had VH1 on with my back turned to the TV. Then the video for Hero started to play. Seriously, I turned around and was like "Who is that voice?" It was amazing and the rest they say is history. It's probably why I prefer Mariah's sound during the Sony years. Not to say anything since then isn't worth my time. Hardly. It's just that's the sound that captured my attention and still does. It's why TEOM and even MIAM are favorites. Anyways, I wouldn't worry about promotion for Vegas. Things are quiet because I imagine MC is working hard behind the scenes to get this gig right. Her career depends on it. Wow, what a low-life. What's even worse is now there are kids involved. With TM, there were no kids involved. Sure, he was her boss for a few years after the divorce, tough years, but once she moved on from Sony, that was it. This time, however, for the sake of the kids I hope NC grows up. He's their father and regardless of how we feel about the guy, those kids need a dad. If he does publish a book, I hope MC's team takes him to town for defamation. As someone who has struggled with weight the past 15 years (I'm at a healthy weight, 30 lbs lighter than before my three kids thank you very much), this discussion hits close to home. For me, I want MC to be healthy. She doesn't have to be a size 6 to wow audiences. When MC dresses right and wears clothes that flatter her figure, she looks gorgeous. I find it funny this discussion comes up after she wears a wetsuit. Hello people, something like that is going to show all your curves, especially curves that come after having kids. Trust me, I've got the hips too, lol. To me this discussion is so over. Let MC be. She's not going to let herself go, especially before a big run of shows in Vegas. Did any of you guys see that list? So many of my favorite songs are on that list. Do You Think Of Me, Slipping Away, Lead The Way, just to name a few. And of course MIAM had two mentions, Cry and Faded. Ugh, I know it's over and done with, but still bugs me MIAM didn't have more promotion. Such a fantastic, solid album. Anyways, I love these lists. We all talk about singles, more popular songs and yet, MC's catalog is so huge, you can makes all sorts of lists. Oh and the target="_blank">Honey remix? One of her best hands down. I know no one here likes to go through trials or see a public persona like MC go through them. However, over the course of 25 years, we have gotten some of her best work after a hard time (i.e. Butterfly, TEOM, etc). Thank you for posting some amazing videos. I loved the VOL performance. I think if she gives each Vegas concert that kind of effort and soul, her residency will be a smashing success. I especially loved Trey Lorenz at the end saying "take your time baby" and MC laughed back. Moments like that are genuine and show people MC is a real person. I hope with these Vegas concerts, MC learns to embrace her early works. I know Sony tried to mold her into something she wasn't, but still, those songs are loved by many and what got her started. I understand she still sings Hero, Dreamlover, VOL. However, I miss songs like LLT (the video RJ112 posted). I hope she does a mashup of some #1s with maybe a non-single track thrown in to add to the magic (aka Alone In Love or Till the End of Time, etc). Are you listening, Mariah? With MC going back to Sony/Epic, this is a chance for her to cement her place in music history, to make people stand up and listen. She is a true talent and deserves people to remember that once again. I hope someday we get all those recorded tracks that never made the album, videos we never got to see. This album is pure genius. Daydream will always be my favorite album. It's hard to believe its been 20 years since that album was released, and yet, the sound of the album could dominate in today's market. Mariah needs to believe in herself again. It seems like she's lost a bit of confidence to me. Daydream in particular is evidence of MC taking a chance and it paying off: i.e. Fantasy Remix with ODB. No one else had infused pop and hip-hop the way MC did, but they sure knew what winning formula to follow afterwards. It's that same kind of thinking that needs to happen again. She may fall flat on her face with a new idea. And she may have the "next big thing" in music like she did with Fantasy. (Thursday 12 March 2015; 6:10)

This is what happens when you take care of your voice. I purposely posted a video of Celine Dion singing one of her more difficult songs All By Myself from 2014. I've been asking myself this question for a long time: why does Celine's voice sound strong while Mariah has seemed to struggle. I'm not throwing shade, really. Thoughts? I don't know if I buy the whole "voice changes after so much use" argument anymore. Sure, Celine's voice has changed. Sure, she lips songs to preserve her voice day to day. However, that doesn't explain why Celine can hit that climax note from ABM 18 years after she first released the song and MC has to lip Fantasy. On a lighter note, no offence, but after watching this video if you still believe Ms. Ross slays Celine, you're crazy, lol. (Saturday 28 February 2015; 8:11)

It's definitely one of my favorite ballads. Along those lines, I Only Wanted is such a great song too, sort of a part 2 to My All. Will, brilliant post. I've always wondered why MC's voice has struggled and Celine's voice has remained strong. It's time MC hired the best vocal coach money can buy. She's got great pipes to protect. I hate to say it, but he has got a point, a lot of good points quite frankly. At some point, we as fans run out of excuses. At what point do we say the problem lies with Mariah? Yes, she is going through a lot of personal issues. If those personal issues are hurting your professional endeavors, it stands to reason she would take time off. Rosie O'Donnell (not a huge fan of hers, BTW), left The View to focus on her personal issues (impending divorce, etc). Maybe M needs to do the same. Personal issues can take their toll on the rest of your life, including your voice. All MC has to do is look at where her hard work has gotten her the past 25 years and own it. Seriously own it, girl. Will's posting of VOL proves with proper care, MC can have that voice shine once again. The ad-libs were too much for me. But, her voice is not gone. I post the video from the 2006 Grammys. Watch the notes she hit at 1:42-3. That's the attitude I am talking about. MC needs to command the stage once again. As far as walking off WBT? Yikes. I'm sorry, but a lot of her fans could fake singing Fantasy better than MC. That's not a good sign. MC came back from faltering in 2001. She can do it again.
