About this_is_qhm from the Philippines: I love the intricate vocal harmonies only Mariah can make.

Re: Mariah's World update (64,954) (64,955) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Exactly. I just Mariah's holiday magic works as we expect it to. Fingers crossed.

Re: I feel it (64,933) (64,939) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Thank you. I mean I know some people here love it, but To The Floor sticks out a little bit too much of the tracklist, and not in a good way. It's one of those very few Mariah songs that are shockingly devoid of an easily discernible melody.

Re: I feel it (64,901) (64,911) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I agree. It's a shame it didn't make the final tracklist for TEOM. It's one of the more unique songs in her catalogue - nothing like she has ever done before and since. She sings with such urgency that seems to be missing from her last 2 albums. Her vocals are mostly left raw to minimally processed, where the slight strains and imperfections better convey the passion behind her performance. such a great song.

Re: Message from a UK Mix poster (64,869) (64,877) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I really hope everyone is still waiting for the series, especially when it's been months since we've first heard about it and it it has probably lost half (and still continues to by the day) of the steam from that initial hype. If this sounds familiar, it's because it seems to be shaping up like the MIAMTEC era all over again. It's not too late yet, but the signs are alarming. These days, every endeavor of hers seems to go either of two ways: 1) her team just isn't cutting it and screw things up for her, or 2) she goes ahead and screws it up herself. Lately, though, it has become more and more of the latter.

Re: Mimi L. (64,854) (64,862) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Exactly. I have never seen her age so fast. She has always aged gracefully. In 2008, she even looked younger than she did during the Glitter-Charmbracelet era. I hated her stint in AI but I have to admit she looked outstanding in that period. Fast forward three years later and it looks like she has aged a decade. The good news, though, is that this can still be remedied. Not only does Mariah need a new makeup artist and a kick-ass stylist, she also needs a life coach (like she ever would, though). All that partying has been keeping her up almost every night and that has started to take toll on her appearance. Now that she's acting half of her age pretty much full time with a devil-may-care attitude, the least she could be is look great while doing all of her antics, and not just like that aging alcoholic aunt who embarrasses you during social gatherings.

Butterfly (the drink) (64,510) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I swear Mariah has entered in just about every business venture over the past decade that I wouldn't be so surprised if she suddenly decided to own and run a zoo or something. Ok, so I'm from Southeast Asia, and I'm not sure about other countries around this region but I haven't been able to see Mariah's drink being sold in any of the biggest shopping centers in my area. Is this drink still being sold in stores in the USA?

Re: The disconnect (64,331) (64,355) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
So true. As a songwriter, she has been been autobiographical more times than one could count. Of course not all people deal with and react to their struggles the same way. Mariah has been very good at hiding what goes on in her personal life and there are some things that happened to her that we weren't exactly aware of until they came pouring out through her music. She is rightfully in control of what she wants and doesn't want the public to know. However, we are at an era where people treat social media like their diary, and we are led to believe that whatever a person posts is a reflection of what their real life is like. These days, people expect the music to go with the artists image. Take 2 serial daters Taylor Swift and John Mayer for example. John's music was criticized for being a complete 180 from his lovelife. Tay, on the other hand, is almost applauded for revealing too much of her short-lived relationships through her craft. Relatability is the name of the game. Mariah, like every other celebrity, isn't one-dimensional, and there's more depth to her than what we see on the internet. But the more she keeps on posting pictures of her lavish lifestyle in her mostly either ill-fitting or inappropriately racy outfits or lack thereof, the harder it would be for people to believe or relate to more recent personal songs like Cry. or Camouflage, even if they do happen to come from real experience. And the unfortunate fact that a tween is in control of her social media presence is unsettling and is really just sad.

Re: Clash mag (64,315) (64,321) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Photoshopping is a given. But something else looks even weirder in the pic. You know when you resize pictures when editing documents and make one a bit too narrow that it messes up the aspect ratio and slims down/distorts everything in it? That's what it looks like - a picture that's, for explanatory purposes, is actually 10 inches wide but compressed down to 9.

Re: The many faces of Mariah (64,271) (64,297) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I have nothing against drag queens whatsoever, I think they're awesome and powerful. But when a woman starts looking like one unintentionally, then we have a problem. Especially if that woman happens to be Mariah, one of the most breathtaking exotic beauties to ever walk this earth.
Okay, so we can't do anything about the aging thing. Or the work done. But something can certainly be done with her current lifestyle and schedule. Constant late nights due to non-stop festive moments are easily gonna take toll on her appearance, especially at her age. Replace the makeup artist as well. And enough of the weird forced grinning she seems to have learned in 2014. If there's anything we know about how Mariah presents herself post 90s, it's that although she has become progressively inconsistent, when she get's it, she hits it out of the freakin' park. Get it together, team.

Article: Mariah Carey goes braless in a lace-up top (64,122) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I remember a post here not so long ago referring to Mariah's penchant for flaunting her bra in a lot of her recent looks. Well apparently during that short amount of time, little did we know that that little issue she has with bras has escalated into hatred. Bra-less is the new bra out, everybody. And yes, we're still talking about Mariah Carey. Award-winning singer, prodigious talent, bestselling artist, savvy businesswoman, bonafide diva, loving mother, and a nip slip waiting to happen.

Pant-less Mariah (63,848) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay yes, the outfit is probably her most shocking yet, but her makeup to me is even worse. Fire the makeup artist - stat. She/he clearly doesn't know the difference between stage and going-out makeup. Mariah has puffier cheeks now. If she couldn't get enough sleep to avoid that, then it's the makeup artist's job to keep her from looking old.

Re: Mariah Hallmark movies (63,802) (63,817) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I also would like to see Mariah direct a period piece, simply for the fact that I am obsessed with anything retro (she did star in one and we all know how that went down). However, the challenge with taking on such projects is trying to be true to the era portrayed in every aspect possible, not just limited to fashion, music and decor. Failing in the aesthetic and atmospheric aspects would just open her up to ridicule. Remember when Madonna did W.E. in 2011, it bombed both critically and commercially. And yes, I know that Madge did that with award considerations in mind while Mariah's just making another movie for Lifetime. But if she was going to direct anything, it should be at the very least passable so that she won't be the subject of even more criticism. So period film or not, I hope the most acting she gets in this upcoming project is a cameo appearance. And if she does star/co-star in it, I hope she doesn't attempt to pull crap such as trying to make the audience believe that she and Lacey Chabert are of the same age. That could come across not only as desperate but also insulting to the audience. No one, not even Mariah's worst haters, would want that to happen again.

My All (63,814) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I feel like My All is one of Mariah's more accomplished works in the sense that it has everything going for it in every possible aspect. Dramatic Latin flair. Outstanding production. Great lyrics. Timeless video. Seductively melancholic vibe. Killer vocals (utilizes Mariah's rarely used lower register, leading to one of her best ever vocal climaxes towards the end). Effective emoting. Excellent remixes. Undeniably radio-friendly. Both critical and commercial success. And of course, that breathtaking melody. It's also one of the few Latin-tinged ballads that still receive regular airplay, as well as one of the few songs that are instantly recognizable within the first few seconds of playing thanks to its simple yet memorable opening. These qualities put it up there with VOL, Emotions, AIWFCIY, Hero, Fantasy, ABMB and WBT as her signature songs.

Re: Repetitive (63,747) (63,749) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Well it's because here in this messageboard, we love Mariah so much that we start unconsciously adopting some of her infamous qualities:
3. Epic shade-throwing. No explanation needed.
2. Repetitiveness. Just like her setlists and her retelling of her story about how she's been to beauty school and sucked (among other stories), our mantra 90% of the time seems to be, "Hey, you know what's interesting? Lip synching. Let's beat whatever is left of that dead horse and beat it again later on."
1. I don't know her/him/them/etc. We love to just ignore certain posters whom we loathe. They're just dead to us. (This one actually works well for this board, though.)

Lipping I Don't Wanna Cry (63,704) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
While she has gotten better at miming, she really hasn't been great at it. She fails to mimic the struggle in her face that comes with singing the high notes, and that's what gives her away. Whether or not that's okay depends on context and consideration. For one of the best singers that has ever walked this earth, no. For an aging diva whose voice has gone through more than its fair share of wear and tear, sure. But at the end of the day, I'm just glad she still does put in some work and actually sings even if it's 60-70% most of the time. And like someone here said, it's still her voice she's lip-synching to, it's not like she went all Milli Vanilli on us. It's times like these when we can seek comfort in the fact that at least it wasn't 2014-bad.

Re: 17 Times Mariah Carey was an absolute diva (63,641) (63,661) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Ditto. Mariah not speaking before a concert? That's some Celine-level of discipline there. It's called saving voice, not being a diva. Stupid article.

I know. It's the best she's done it in a long time. Live through and through. So proud of her. This is the video I'd show naysayers blabbering on about how she can't sing anymore.

Demi (63,500) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
While she is out of line with those remarks, I can't say I'm surprised. With how Mariah is treating her beef with JLo, it was only a matter of time before some other starlet stuck her nose in such issue. I hope this serves as some kind of wake up call for Mariah in a way because while she really isn't "unnecessarily rude", obviously her actions come across as such to some people, and that group of people just happens to be represented by Demi. I believe the remark does ultimately come from a good place, though. You know she is a fan. She does recognize Mariah's stature in the industry. She just has trouble keeping her opinions to herself. I also agree with the Ariana doing nothing wrong part. While Ari is a copycat to some degree, I believe that comes from being a true fan rather than being some usurper. Why? Because a lamb has more than enough faith and belief in Mariah (yes, even at her worst) that she can never, ever be duplicated let alone replaced, even if she never sings another note. Ari is just a lamb who got tired of the media's attempts at pitting her against her idol, whom she has since tried to distance herself from as much as possible. And to us lambs, as inherently cynical as we are, that's "shady".

Re: New music (63,435) (63,442) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
To me her current voice does somehow sound more powerful live, it seems heavier and more authoritative. What she lost, though is a lot of the fluidity and ease. She doesn't push as much for the usual sky-high ad libs. She does know her limitations and resorts to vocal saves for alternatives. She just doesn't know that pretty much everyone knows it as well.

Re: Butterfly's anniversary (63,311) (63,314) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Fourth Of July will always be my favorite song on Butterfly (not that it was an easy choice at all). So lush, dreamy and colorful. Painting a romantic date through words has never been this magical. Some of the best minutes of my life was listening to it immediately after Underneath The Stars for the first time. Try it and if you aren't feeling even slightly fuzzy and warm right after, you're probably dead inside.

Article: Mariah Carey refused to sing during "Carpool Karaoke" (63,153) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Aside from the seemingly unavoidable miming here and there, it's disappointing features like this that perpetuate the wrong notion that Mariah can't sing anymore. Real fans know that she can't sing like she used to, but to the rest of the world, she just can't sing anymore, period.

Re: Gwen (62,931) (62,965) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Yeah, I know Gwen's latest endeavors haven't been met with the usual success she'd expect, but when I said Mariah should take note from her, I was referring to how she crafts music videos, especially since they are of the same age. Gwen has made more mature, less cringe-worthy videos since she came back in 2014 (Spark The Fire being the only exception). She doesn't sell even half as much as she did in the 2000s anymore but at least the public and the younger crowd see her as cool chick who doesn't seem to age, not some older gal who touches herself too much in her videos. I was also referring to how she carries herself in public. While Mariah has had recent interview moments where she's toned down the diva act, it's the instances of unnecessary shade throwing that always stand out. It's impossible for celebrities, especially for those who have been in the business for so long, to ever be relatable, but the least they can be is someone that's likeable, because although that isn't a prerequisite for respect, it still leads to being respectable. Her hardcore fans aside, I feel like not many other people would want to talk about Mariah if it isn't music-wise anymore.

Re: I don't know her - again (62,900) (62,905) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Exactly. I love me some classic Mariah shade, but I really hope Mariah stops referencing or addressing this long-time beef she has with Jennifer if she's constantly gonna do it this way. Let's face it, people - current Mariah is waaaaay behind Jen in terms of charisma and public acceptance. More people just seem to tolerate, yes, tolerate (caps) her these days. You just know something's really wrong when the victim isn't the one who's getting the public's sympathy. J.Lo's expert handling of this situation makes Mariah look like some self-centered chick who is too proud and immature to move on from an incident that happened 15 years ago.

Gwen's misery (62,902) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Have you seen Gwen Stefani's latest video for her newest single Misery? The woman is about the same age as Mariah and she also looks great. That video, though. Arresting. She looks perfect in every frame. It's sexy, elegant, and manages to look effortless despite her rocking haute couture all throughout. This is how you make a stunning visual devoid of a straightforward narrative without having to constantly touch and feel yourself all over to be sexy. Mariah, please take note. With ageism being a real thing, she must be coming up with videos that are age-appropriate, eye-catching yet timeless and something that showcases her like the legend that she is, not as some middle-aged aunt who tries too hard to fit in with the younger generation.
