J Lo's response (62,942)
by Martyn from England, UK

Can somebody tell me where I can see J Lo's response? Or at least what she said? I'm so tired of the whole "I don't know her" debacle now.

Mariah's video to Wendy Williams / Stella (62,724)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
Okay, this is too far now. After initially being wary of her, I started to warm to Stella thinking that I'd got caught up in the lamb-hate-hype. I can now see that she is a bad influence. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that Mariah is a grown woman who can make her own choices, but she's been making some very strange ones recently and whilst I don't fully blame Stella, I definitely think her influence is affecting Mariah's judgement. One of the things I've always loved about Mariah is she doesn't respond to criticism, or if she does, she does it in a very subtle/classy way. This video seems somewhat aggressive, and the fact she's tagged Wendy Williams in the caption just seems so unlike the Mariah I know. I'm so confused about what is going on at the moment. Whilst there are lots of great things in the pipeline, this era is shaping up to be a bit of a bizarre mess. Maybe RaeRae, JD and the rest of the old team were yes men, but at least Mariah seemed happy. At the moment she seems neurotic and heavily influenced, and I genuinely think it's damaging her reputation. Enough of the staged antics. Enough of the drama. Just go back to being the incredible singer and songwriter we originally fell in love with.

I've seen a few clips, but I can't seem to find the full episode anywhere. Could somebody help me please? (I'm in the UK so I can't watch on American only sites.) Much appreciated.

Yeah, your'e right Licia. After a contestant sang a Mariah song his exact words were "I bet Mariah wishes she could sing it like that, if Mariah Carey heard you sing, she’d be like 'Dang, I wish I could sing like that still'." Disappointing really as I've always thought will.i.am is incredibly talented, even if his music isn't everyone's cup of tea. He's certainly not the sort of person I would expect to throw others under the bus anyway.

It is sad yet predictable that Ian from the United Kingdom would use my name at this time to reinvent past incidents for his own promotional gain. It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep him in my prayers. (I'm joking, I don't actually care, and I'm done with the drama and will resume only posting about Mariah-related things from now on.)

I agree, I'm already dreading it. The J Lo thing will undoubtedly be brought up, and given the tone of the show I know Mariah is going to go down the "comical" route. I'm so bored of it. I'm ready for a serious interview with no diva-isms. The odd few thrown in is fine, but she seems like a stuck record now just rotating the same stock phrases in every interview. Interesting that you brought Oprah up - imagine Mariah pulling these antics in front of her or Barbara Walters? She never would. It's bizarre.

I believe the Americans say "while", but in England the word "whilst" is more common. So no, we are not the same person, just using the English language as an English person and not an American.

Excuse me RJJ12, why have you brought me into this? I purposely never get involved in arguments on this board because I'm not 12 and I'm also too laid back to care what strangers behind a keyboard think of me. Whilst I'm flattered I've made such an impact, feel free to leave me out of future discussions.

Giovanni (61,838)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |

Giovanni, you say the only reason Rihanna, Taylor, Justin etc. chart is because of Billboard counting digital sales and streaming and then mention that previously artists had to work, promote and sell their singles. Surely artists have to do just the same now? Don't get me wrong, I dislike a lot of current chart music because I'm 28 and it's probably no longer geared towards my age range, but many of these high charting artists do a lot of promotion and work their butts of to get where they are. Yes the way in which music is purchased and consumed is different now, but that doesn't make it any less worthy of being classed as a sale/counting towards a chart position. The way we consume music has always changed. That's like saying in the late 80s that sales of casettes and CDs were not as chart worthy as sales of vinyl.

Visuals / Lemonade (61,816)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
Despite not really being Beyonce's biggest fan, I watched Lemonade last night to see what all the hype was about. I found the spoken word and Gaga-esque 15 minute intros to each song quite tedious, but other than that the visuals were absolutely stunning. It will never happen in a million years, but I really wish Mariah would step outside her comfort zone when it comes to music videos. Why can't she give us nice visuals, something a little more abstract? All we ever get are slow mo shots of Mariah and poor production values. You don't need a big budget for a good video, you just need a good director with a clear vision and no self-editing which I suspect Mariah does a lot. If I had one wish for the next era it would be that Mariah had less control outside of the musical side of things.

Article: A view from the top (61,815)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
The lady who wrote this article is a poor journalist. It comes across quite obviously that she has a personal dislike towards Mariah. I have no problem with people/journalists criticising Mariah, I do it often enough myself, but this article is badly researched and the general tone is quite condescending. I politely challenged the journalist on Twitter regarding her "past her prime since 2001" comment and reminded her that one of Mariah's most successful eras came in 2005/6. She responded by misquoting her own article and changing her words. I sent her a screenshot of her original words and unsurprisingly she didn't reply. I've left it at that because I'm not interested in picking a fight, but poor journalism is one of my pet hates. Pretty bad considering she's supposedly an "entertainment editor".

Unpopular opinion alert (61,447)
by Martyn from England, UK

Okay I'm just going to say it. I think Butterfly is completely overhyped as an album. There are some great songs on it, but there's also a lot of filler in my opinion. I think Me I Am Mariah is a much stronger album.

Re: The Emancipation Of Andrew (61,307) (61,308)

Haha Andrew why are you doing this to me? Especially on a predominantly American board where British humour is essentially a foreign language. For the record (purposeful reference) all we spoke about was salad and our alcohol problems, nothing untoward. Anyway, back to Mariah. I have to say, I'm warming to Stella, it seems she's taken a bit of a backseat publicly. Still find the hashtags infuriating though.

On the subject of message board rules, is there any way you would consider adding a rule about people abbreviating song titles? Whenever I see IWKWLI or YDKWTD or things like that, I often have to spend ages trying to work out which song it is, and usually can't and give up haha. Anyway, just a suggestion, I may be the only one without the intelligence to work these out, in which case ignore me.

As is usually the case, I'm with Andrew on this one. Juan, I'm sorry to hear you've not had the greatest life, but your post was completely cringeworthy and unnecessary. Tiina, you are well within your rights to feel the way you do, and please don't let people on this board make you feel any worse.

Meet and greet mess (61,099)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
I'm so sorry to hear about your meet and greet experience Tiina. It's ridiculous that fans couldn't give her gifts directly or have autographs signed. Schedule or no schedule, what's an extra few minutes per fan? These are the same fans that often wait a very long time for her to arrive on stage, so I'm sure if she's a little late back to the hotel it won't harm anybody. Also, I really don't like the idea of them staging a better version of a meet and greet for the documentary, that's just gross and deceitful. I gather that it's Mariah's team who will be responsible for most of this, but the blame can't be taken fully off Mariah. Given how much people have paid I think on this occasion she could have treated her fans a little better.

Stella's kids (60,732)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
Oh gosh, after your post I had a little look at Stella's daughter's Instagram. I know it's probably a bit immoral to have hateful thoughts towards a child, but she's infuriating. I've no idea how old she is, but she's posted a photo with the caption "London with my bitches" and Stella has put loads of excitable emoticons in the comments section. If that was one of my little sisters my mum would wash her mouth out with soap haha. Stella seems like such a stage mum, I guarantee her and her kids will play a huge role in Mariah's new show. Just gross.

Best night of my life (60,654)
by Martyn from England, UK

I went to see Mariah at the Manchester Arena on Friday and I can honestly say it was one of the best nights of my life. I was so nervous about vocals/showmanship etc. but it was incredible from start to finish. I reckon even Andrew will only have good things to say.
