Mariah's next look (83,613)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
So detached from reality she is that she thinks this is a good idea. It just feeds into the narrative of her being a vain diva with all the depth of a bimbo. Here's a suggestion, stop flattening your hair on your head and cover up your forehead. And lose the clown make up. Eyes were never meant to look so dark. Tell the make up artist what to do. Don't let it be the there way around. People just want to be employed, at any cost to you.

What nonsense. Were Mariah to release an album of non singles etc that only the lambs know, the only people to hear them would still be the lambs. Nobody is interested in old school Mariah anymore. She past that point way back.

Mariah is doing the same Christmas tour as last year, it's already booked. And she is releasing a new album. This is canon. Stop getting your knickers in a twist.

You miss the point, somewhat. That Mariah felt in a relationship she didn't want to be in difficult to leave is not a good thing (probably wise not to marry your boss with whom you are in an unbreakable contract). Yet between the separation and the release of the Glitter movie she had, without much outside influence, damaged her image, her voice and key relationships. Ultimately, it broke her. If Mottola and his team had been trying to save her from that, from herself, well, it would have been interesting to see what might have been. I recall that Mottola didn't stop ODB being on the Fantasy record but that he did stop Mariah being in the studio when ODB was a mess laying down his vocal. That it was eventually more important to Mariah to make herself the darling of the hip-hop world and a sex symbol to the the rest of it is what it is. So be it. As it stands, this year there is a new record coming out on which must be the most awful vocals if the most recent The Butterfly Returns shows are anything to go by. She wouldn't even win a karaoke competition to her own songs let alone a recording contract. But as long as the hip-hop guys tell her she is hot, I don't think she cares.

The #metoo has a effing terrible agenda: pure man-hating and man-baiting with the added problem that men are being accused and sentenced publically on social media where no wrong-doing has occurred, ie. women are lying or embellishing to be a part of the collective victimhood. It is feminism in the new nasty misandric form. What happened to Grande was ridiculous. That he didn't even know her doesn't mean he should make fun of her name like that whilst grabbing her and moving his fingers over her body, invading her space and being rather odd looking on television. Try this: reverse their races and make the joke about a "black name". Still okay with it? All for humour but that looked physically abusive. Try this: swap Grande with Mariah being treated like that. Still okay with it? It is nothing to do with bandwagon victimhood identity politics. It's about a particular man not being a physical idiot towards a woman, a stranger at that.

Any grown ups who listen to Grande? Gay guys and women of course haha (ole Martyn went to her concert). I do agree with you though in part: I can't take her seriously. Her music is average and that flappy jaw thing she does is so irritating I am surprised nobody has tried to break it. She should stick to licking donuts. Lord knows she is one. The next Mariah she is not. But I do feel sorry for her with the way that Pastor fondled her and made a racist joke. That made for some uncomfortable viewing.

Respect vs ridicule: the narrative of Mimi (83,539)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
I wrote recently that Mariah has become so used to playing the Mariah Carey characature she developed when the voice started to crack that she is afraid to stop doing it. I believe this is true. I think she has lost any semblance of introspection and is unable to fully see how she is viewed by the world in terms of respect vs ridicule. This fixed-mental-grinning, head-tilting, good-side-only-showing, shoulders-back-tits-hanging-out, tippy-toeing-with-man's-hand-guiding, champagne-swigging, tacky-shit-flashing, clown-make-up-wearing, toy-boy-shagging characature should go. The public may know her for it, but that doesn't mean they respect her for it. The tabloids only feed the public what they want. Mariah is hopefully still a decent, grounded, pleasant person underneath. When she looked to the sky during the Dickhead Clark debacle I saw someone with no pretence, no bullshit, nothing to hide behind. She needs to find that humility again. That surely would be "The Reinvention of Mimi": doing away with all the crap and making people respect her as a person, not just for her music. Which, frankly, is becoming harder and harder to rely upon as the years pass by. Were I MC's manager, the years approaching wouldn't pass the way they've come to start.

"I wish Mariah would take control of her own narrative and stop letting the tabloids write it for her." What a crock of shit. Mariah has created her own narrative and the tabloids have mocked it, and, arguably, quite rightly. She is not a victim of anything else but her own bad decisions and bad attitude. Crock of shit.

Sorry but Crapfinity lyrics beats There's Got To Be A Way every day of the week and twice on Tuesdays. If ever I feel down I put that song on. I laugh out loud every time. I love me some Mariah but those lyrics sound like they were penned by a child with a crayon.

I sat by the radio waiting for Heartbreaker for hours and it finally came on and I hit record wetting myself. Then the DJ came on at the climax and spoke over her adlibs and cut it short. I went mad. Sat by the radio for hours waiting for it again. Those were the days.

I think "aggressive" is hopefully descriptive of the music's approach and not necessarily the music itself. If it is confident and ready to attack Spotify and the charts etc. then great. I cannot see Mariah making an aggressive *sounding* musical, even moreso now that she has described the album in terms of almost every other good Mariah Carey album that has ever been (I aint even looking at you Memoirs and Charmbracelet). If it has fresh and modern and relevant production styles I'll be a happy bunny.

Jadakiss, you mean to say you didn't learn the dance to Honey? Tsk. To be fair, they are some very complicated moves - so complicated Mariah sometimes forgets them on stage haha. Anyway, take no shame: I think everyone in my school, boys and girls alike, tried to learn Crazy. My macho older brother tried to learn Sometimes. And everyone just made up their own one to Toxic which is incidentally what the queen who was dancing to next to my mate was dancing to when he elbowed my mate's drink all over me haha I don't care though because it was a wicked night, great party and so much fun. It's Britney bitch.

It's a nice statement, but since when did Mariah care about what her fans want? That's arguably quite untrue. But I agree that the album must be coming out soon - it must be October, otherwise why cancel the Aus&NZ tour? It will be interesting to see if she's posting pictures of herself frolicking about on a boat during the period when she should be playing for her Antipodean fans lol I hope she doesn't, for she will surely lose all of them. You don't piss of the Aussies lol. Regardless, that there might be a new Mariah Carey album soon is quite exciting.

You were doing well until "You all say you want..." but you probably wanted to end with killer lines. Many people here want Mariah to be on top in the public eye and have said so - myself included - so that's just nonsense.

Some of his impressions of Mariah are fun but the video and song are average at best. This is a YouTube blog type thing, not a music video. If he weren't gay and pretending to be women nobody would care.

Agreed. Mariah wearing the floral dresses at home and in the studio make her look very natural and relaxed and emphasize her natural beauty. However she needs to sack that make-up artist and go back to natural, softer tones. She often looks like a hooker with all that slap on. I am perplexed as to why she thinks she needs it. The ball gowns, the diamonds and the inch thick make up are really old now. I sometimes think Mariah has been playing "Mariah Carey" the caricature for so long now she's frightened that if she doesn't she will be forgotten. Where I think the polar opposite is the reality.

JLo (83,460)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Essentially this turned into another Lopez bashing. The question concerned Mariah potentially being as respected as JLo is were she to have behaved in the same ways. JLo is respected and revered whether you like her music or not, whether she sold less than Mariah or not. I personally find her grating but the industry and wider public do not whereas Mariah has made most of the planet go off her with her antics. Dress up "waaa I hate JLo she copied Mariah waaa" with as much erudition as you can muster but it completely misses the point.
