I've been reading tweets and reviews all morning and the consensus is Mariah Carey slayed. This was a smart move on both her part and Empire's. Best of all it left you wanting more from her.

She's human. I think it makes her relatable. She's beautiful but even beautiful people have insecurities.

If you compare Infamous to a Mariah Carey song it's underwhelming. However, this isn't a Mariah Carey song. It's a song written and produced by Mariah Carey for Empire. People please take this into consideration when listening to this song. I hated Triumphant and Memoirs but I didn't and don't disrespect those who like them.

Does anyone else think Mariah's vocal styling or performance on Infamous was inspired by her Vegas performances of TGIFY? (Not sure I used the right technical terms to describe her vocals.)

LA is convinced Mariah can't score a hit without a current collaborator. The only recent collaborations that have worked for me are Nas and Miguel.

Mariah's World premieres in December so unless you've seen it how can you call it a mess? The teasers have been promising except for a glimpse or two of Stella.

Rhianna and Beyonce are already experience waning sells. Rhianna gave Anti away for free and despite months of media domination and manipulation Lemonade barely sold a million copies. When Charmbracelet sold only a million copies it was considered a disappointment. Why is Mariah held to her past successes and her supposed successors not? FYI, Lemonade has only sold 1.2 million copies.

If Mariah had blew she would have blown Jussie away. Keep in mind this is Jussie featuring Mariah or the cast of Empire featuring Mariah. She has yet to upload it to her Vevo and only shared EW's article.

New sound (66,859)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
Since 2005 Mariah has worked primarily with JD in an attempt to recreate their winning formula. However, their formula is no longer winning. Despite a few standouts (Dedicated and For The Record) their work together has been lackluster and uninspired. If Stella cares about Mariah's legacy she should suggest Mariah to work with new producers. I want Mariah to make another comeback. It's basically a must at this point after so many underwhelming and underperforming singles.

Despite liking Infamous it reinforces my belief that Mariah needs to work with new producers. She's hit a wall creatively and if she hopes to make another comeback she needs new blood. Working with Miguel and Happy Perez is why #Beautiful worked. It seamlessly updated Mariah's signature sound without sounding desperate or dated.

Infamous (66,854)
by B from USA
| |

After playing the song three times in a row my brother, who for the record isn't a fan, was singing along. I like it. The lyrics are obviously about Lucious and Cookie's infamous relationship. It fits within the storyline perfectly. The vintage R&B Hip-hop sound is also a direct result of the storyline. He's toxic and yet their love is epic and their constantly drawn back to each other.

Agreed. She could easily replicate these vocals in a live setting. I'm hoping she sings it on a morning show (with a piano and without the unnecessary rap) and let's loose and wails at the end. The main complaint I've noticed is that it doesn't sound like a Mariah song, it isn't. Sonically it's in the Empire wheelhouse despite being produced by JD and Cox. I don't think we should judge where she's going musically on her next studio effort off of this song.

This is an Empire song and not a Mariah Carey song. The autotuned rap is distracting but it's an otherwise enjoyable R&B ballad. Mariah's vocals are the highlight.

Nick just got slammed with the ultimate Mariah dis (66,752)
by B from USA

Nick is the creator, host, and producer of this series so why does he allow Mariah to be mentioned? Why hasn't (and why didn't) he made if clear that she's off limits. He's painfully unfunny. I cringe every time he opens his mouth.
