Mariah Carey to receive Global Impact Awards

Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz are 2024 Recording Academy Global Impact Award honorees. The awards, along with one to a third honoree scheduled to be announced Thursday, will be presented at the third annual Recording Academy Honors presented by the Black Music Collective. The event will take place Thursday (February 1) at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

This is a CEO Merit Award that recognizes Black music creators "whose dedication to the art form has greatly influenced the industry and whose legacy of service inspires countless individuals worldwide, celebrating those who, through leadership and passion, empower others to embrace their authentic selves and contribute to positive change". Harvey Mason jr. has been the Academy’s CEO since May 2021, after serving as interim CEO for about a year.

Carey has won five Grammy Awards, including best new artist in 1991 and best female vocal performance, over the course of her career, in both pop (for "Vision of Love") and R&B (for "We Belong Together"). Kravitz has won four Grammys - best male rock vocal performance in consecutive years (1999-2002) for "Fly Away", "American Woman", "Again" and "Dig In".

Both stars acted in Lee Daniels’ 2009 film Precious. Carey played a social worker, Ms. Weiss; Kravitz played a nurse, John McFadden. It was Kravitz’s acting debut in a feature film.
