Mariah Carey's private jet lands in Australia

While most stars fly on the spoils of first class, that mode of travel is so pedestrian for Mariah Carey. The superstar singer touched down in Brisbane on her very own private jet on Wednesday night ahead of her headlining performances for Fridayz Live festival.

There was no sighting of the star disembarking from the jet as it hit the tarmac at Brisbane Airport, but in 24 hours fans will see and hear the five-time Grammy winner as she takes to the stage at the popular music festival.

Carey, 56, leads the blockbuster line-up featuring Pitbull, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Jon, Eve, Tinie Tempah and Jordin Sparks, which kicks off on Friday night in Brisbane before hitting Sydney, Perth and Melbourne this weekend and next.

This is Carey's first visit to Australia in more than a decade - and the trip coincides with the 20th anniversary of her award-winning album The Emancipation of Mimi. "I generally have a pretty good time in Australia." she told Today show's Richard Wilkins ahead of her visit.

"This year we are celebrating Mimi, the album, for the 20th anniversary, so I'm doing a lot of the songs from that." The album - considered her comeback when it was released in 2005 - won Carey three Grammys from a total of of eight nominations, including Album Of The Year. It birthed a string of smash hit singles including We Belong Together, It's Like That and Shake It Off.

It's an amazing line-up of acts and I'm excited to bring my thing to it," she said of Fridayz Live. "You just do the songs that you feel people want to hear and listen to."

But Carey said she was happiest at home with her twins: son Moroccan and daughter Monroe, who she shares with her ex-husband Nick Cannon. "I'm a writer so I love the writing part of it - that's everything to me," she said when asked what aspect of her career she's enjoying at the present moment. "But also now I have twins and they're 14, so being with them has made my life amazing."

Carey will no doubt bring the star factor as the event kicks off tomorrow, almost one year after it was cancelled altogether after organisers failed to secure a massive line-up for 2024. "Hey Fridayz Fam, it's gonna burn for us to say this - Fridayz Live won't be happening this year," the event's official social media account announced last year.

"We couldn't pull together a line-up worthy enough for our amazing fans, so we're hitting the pause button - for now. But don't stress, we won't be gone for long. Fridayz will be back, bigger and better in 2025. Stay tuned."
