Waste/Dawn release metal cover of "All I Want for Christmas"

Waste/Dawn is a solo doom/prog project that was formed in 2022. The metal act just released their brutal version of the classic holiday hit All I Want for Christmas Is You on December 1st.

Waste/Dawn's version has a slightly shortened name, All I Want for Christmas... and that is only the beginning of the differences throughout the re-imagined track. Ominous guitar ambience introduces a haunting singing as lyrics are rewritten with a much darker intent than the original track.

'"All I Want for Christmas..." is a song about decay, disillusionment, and the desperate request to let the entire festive facade just end. It replaces the pop idol's longing for love with an agonizing demand for reality." - Waste/Dawn

The song builds in energy as distant guitar dissonance and booming bass lines suddenly make way for full band destruction. Drop-tuned guitar riffage, slamming drum beats, and background ambience create an overall twisted and brutal soundscape as the song's original pop melodies stand out in stark contrast. After fully-fledged metal intensity, chilling piano melodies lead back into explosive action as screaming is introduced for the first time in the track.

Clocking in at just over 5 minutes, Waste/Dawn's All I Want for Christmas... is a brutal and eerie reimagination of a Christmas classic that fans of metal will certainly enjoy. With great production and an animated video featuring the likeness of Mariah Carey wearing a deer skull, All I Want for Christmass... successfully creates a dark and extreme atmosphere that provides a new commentary with altered lyrics.

My sentiments exactly. Both "decay, disillusionment, and the desperate request to let the entire festive facade just end and the obvious need for switching the pop idol's longing for love with an agonizing demand for reality" is exactly how I am feeling. Mariah should give up the Christmas non-sense now since she cannot sing what she is performing and no one can afford to watch her lip synch - especially after she just released a great album with a singing voice that in no way matches her ruse. Enough already - this has gone far beyond absurd.
