Mariah Carey sent fans into a frenzy when she shared a TikTok video of herself doing her own shopping at the grocery store. The world renowened diva, who likes to be carried on stage and famously said she thought electricity was free, was seen picking up wine and cereal while pushing around a trolley at a Pavilions store.
As she giggled through the aisles picking up Captain Crunch and savoury snacks, Mariah appeared confused and asked if she really had to pay for her shopping. She asked: "Are we really going to pay for this?" as fans wrote in the comments: "This is foreign to her and it shows."
While food shopping is a typically mundane task for your average US family, Mariah, who kept a low profile in a pair of black sunglasses and a bomber jacket, seemed out of her depth. But this may not come as a surprise to fans, as she has been known to be unfamiliar with the concept of paying for electricity in the past.
In a 2009 interview, when the interviewer asked about paying bills, Mariah replied: "Bill who?" The interviewer clarified that he meant a payment bill like an electricity bill, which Mariah said: "Oh you have to pay for that?"
The interviewer said: "Well we don't get it free" to which Mariah wrongly stated that "in American we get it free". It had to be explained to Mariah that while it may "feel free" to her, she does in fact, have to pay for it.
