Mariah Carey sports $1.5 million diamond necklace

Mariah Carey is celebrating a major milestone the only way she knows how, by dripping in diamonds. On Wednesday, September 30, the singer, 57, published an Instagram post to mark the 25th anniversary of her 2001 movie Glitter. The star appeared in one of her new merch items - a white tank top with the word "Loverboy" written in blue - under a black leather jacket. "New Glitter merch," Carey captioned the post.

Carey sported bright pink lipstick and wore her long, honey blonde hair in loose waves. The star of the look, however, was the sparkling diamond necklace, designed by Leviev and boasting 44.71 carats of pear-shaped natural diamonds set in 18-karat white gold. The piece's center pendant alone features 14 carats. The necklace is priced at $1.55 million, the jeweler told Page Six on Thursday, October 1. Carey added even more sparkle to the photo with a pair of diamond drop earrings.

During a March interview with Variety about her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, Carey confirmed that something special was in the works to celebrate Glitter‘s 25th anniversary. "There are plans for a deluxe and a reissue, or maybe just one, I don't know. We're getting on top of it. I'm excited about it," the Grammy winner, who shrugged off missing the Rock Hall's 2026 class in April, shared.

Glitter, loosely based on Carey's life story, was released on September 21, 2001 and made just $5.3 million worldwide. Its soundtrack was released 10 days earlier, the day of the terrorist attacks on New York City's World Trade Center, Washington, D.C.'s Pentagon and Pennsylvania's Somerset County.

Speaking to the film's turbulent place in history, Carey told Variety in March, "I used to hate it. I used to be so like, 'Why did I do that?'" and called the film "a disastrous flop" that came during a "tough time". "And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just sort of took on its own thing," she continued.

In recent years, fans have come around to appreciating the film and its soundtrack. The 2018 #JusticeForGlitter viral movement led to the soundtrack reaching the iTunes Top 10 albums chart, 17 years after its release.
