Mariah Carey finds a new home at Universal

Just months after being dumped by her record label Virgin and walking away with the world's biggest golden handshake, Mariah Carey has found a new home at Universal. Mariah has signed to Def Jam records. The deal will include a label all of her own with Vivaldi Universal directing Mariah's career across their various media assets include movies.

She has already begun work on her next record, the follow-up to the "Glitter" disaster that lead to her demise from Virgin after just one record. However, the general consensus is that Def Jam will be able to supply the direction and management resource that was lacking under the Virgin relationship.

Universal chairman and CEO Doug Morris calls Mariah "an international treasure" while Mariah says that she is honoured to be working with people who "have collectively helped redefine pop music, and I am excited to be part of their family." Def Jam records is the home of Ja Rule, Jay Z, Ashanti and Ludacris.
