We tried to find out more about this story, and it seems that Madonna.com's editor made a mistake. He or she wrote that Madonna has sold over 250 millions of copies worldwide. The truth is, according to several information websites including International Music websites and Madonna's fan sites, Madonna has sold around 150 millions, but that's what Mariah had sold until 2001.
According to Amazon.com, Mariah's current sales are over 160 millions, so Mariah is still the best-selling female artist of all-time. However, Madonna is the female artist with the most top-ten singles in US charts. Madonna could be the best-selling female artist in history, but she should have sold 100 millions of copies in 4 or 5 years.
