Big-hearted Mariah Carey takes seagull under her wing
Bombshell popstar Mariah Carey saved a wounded seagull while working on the sun-drenched Italian island of Capri. "I was doing a video when I noticed a bird in distress," Mariah told the Enquirer in an exclusive interview. "He seemed unable to fly - his feathers were all ruffled and one wing hung uselessly at his side."
The pop diva was on location in Capri's famed Blue Grotto, a water filled cave cut by waves on the island's coast. The seagull was stranded in rocks at the water's edge.
"I love all kinds of animals and picked up the bird. He was dazed and let me cradle him in my arms," continued soft-hearted Mariah. "Then our boat made its way back to port. From there I took the bird to my residence and my housekeeper fashioned a splint for its wing. We made it a perch in the corner of the kitchen, and named it 'Charlie'."
Charlie is regaining his appetite and Mariah was planning to release him if he recovered fully in the next few weeks. If not, she said he'd spend the rest of his recuperation in a bird sanctuary on Capri.
"They love birds here and the facilities are great," she told The Enquirer from the island. "But," added Mariah, "someone I know isn't thrilled with Charlie - that's Jack, my Jack Russel terrier, who travels everywhere with me. If he had his way, the bird would already have found a new home. Jack's the king of the castle - and he likes it that way." (The National Enquirer)
