Name change finally (60,451)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So according to this article, they have thankfully changed the name from "Mariah's Squad" to "Mariah's World" which is much more appropriate. It'll be on E! so it'll get plenty promo. Love the picture they used in the article. I hope this is a sign that we will get moments of Mariah just playing around with music and sounds. I am glad Mariah acknowledged that sometimes she is misunderstood so she wants to show the world what she is really like. So I hope we see more genuine Mariah moments rather than the "demanding diva" the media portrays her as and something she plays along to.

Re: Stella article (60,436) (60,443)

Page Six may be a tabloid, and they obviously write crap but they can't just directly quote someone unless they actually said it, and run the risk of getting sued. It wasn't a "sources close to Carey camp said Stella said this" or "Stella Bulochnikov allegedly said this". It was a direct "Stella Bulochnikov responded saying". So yes she did say it unfortunately.

Getting out of hand (60,416)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
This is getting out of hand. But well Stella should have known that when she unwittingly decided to call out a tabloid magazine. Now they will dig up dirt on her and her family, exaggerate stuff and print it because obviously tabloids are trashy as it is and if you are going to go out call them "idiots" they will jump on you more. I am still scratching my head over why Stella decided to lash out at the tabloid. The story wasn't negative about Mariah so she wasn't protecting Mariah, she was protecting herself. And if this was a publicity stunt to get more hype for the reality show, I swear I'm done, because I would never want Mariah's brand to stoop so low that she has to invite "ratchet-ness" and publicity stunts. Also if there is a pinch of truth in the whole "Stella filmed a pilot for her own reality show a while back", it fuels my concern about her being a fame seeker.

Please tell me that picture is just a random shot and not a promo shot for "Mariah's Squad". The kids are just everywhere. I even saw a video of Mariah leaving the party honoring Brett Ratner and lo and behold Mishka is right there next to Mariah.

Licia, I know and I am scared of that too, but they are calling it a "docu-series" and so they can't use the excuse of it being "reality TV" and just create random drama for entertainment value (by the way, I watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians every week haha, I won't even lie). I am however disappointed by Stella's behaviors, it's a mess. I understand being a strong independent woman and having the right to voice their own opinion but this is not the way to go, It was nasty and childish and she is known as "Mariah's manager" so her behavior reflects on Mariah's brand because really no one really knows (or is interested in) Stella as a separate individual here. She is being talked about because she is involved with Mariah.

The show (60,360)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I have said this before but I want to make a list. What I want to see in the show: 1) Mariah addressing real life issues, bad press about her voice, the Rockefeller incident, what went wrong during the recording of MIAM, what are her tentative future plans (professional) and so on. 2) Her rehearsals, her rituals before a show, what happens backstage before she goes on stage, during breaks and after the show. 3) A few selected scenes of her with Dembabies. Nothing too invasive. 4) Her writing new music, trying out sounds in the studio with her engineer and hopefully some recording sessions. Basically the real singer-songwriter-producer side of Mariah. What I don't want to see: 1) Too much drama, random ramblings about things the general public won't understand. And it's important because it's a docu-series made for the masses not just the true lambs. It's not a "DVD special". 2) The Bulochnikov kids' opinion on Mariah. 3) Too much of her squad. Keep it to the point.

Unprofessional activity (60,359)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
The Page Six article about Mariah's team supposedly not being happy about the reality show has been updated. If you scroll down to the new additional paragraph, you see Stella has finally responded to the article and all I can say is it is unprofessional at best. I get it that maybe the whole "her team is not happy" may be made up but so is a lot of things. What was going through Stella's mind when she made that remark? She is Mariah's manager and represents Mariah's team. She has to choose her words carefully even if the article is negative about her. Mariah has hundreds of bad articles written about her on a daily basis, we don't see her resorting to "f-words" and calling people "idiots". Mariah Carey is not a C-grade celebrity that her team thinks it's fine to behave so unprofessionally and it won't affect her brand. I know Mariah is probably not as involved in her business at the moment since she has finally found peace in her personal life and her priorities have changed but she should take note of what her team is putting out there. Stella could have chosen to not respond or respond in a more professional manner, letting her thoughts be known but in a mature manner. The article isn't even that negative. I don't get it. Stella no one really has to get "in your good graces" you are not the star here, it's Mariah. Please fix yourself and know who you are representing.

You are still wondering? Didn't she confirm it many times? "Love me down till I hit the top of my soprano"? Then don't forget Nick talking about how he makes Mariah hit the high notes. So we know dahlin', we know. Side note: I couldn't remember the complete lyrics of "Loverboy" so I went to check if she talks about "hitting high notes" and oh, that song is dirty. Like I can't even. Mary Poppins let lose on that song and got down and dirty. Either every single line is pretty graphic or I am misreading things.

That's why the name scares me. She should just have her name in it. No one is interested in her squad. Plus it's not like her squad is full of A-List people talking about her during the show (I probably wouldn't even be interested in that) instead it has only the Bulochnikovs (like seriously are we to tune in to watch pre-teen kids now?) and I am not really interested in hearing them talk. This and this scares me. I hope for Mariah's sake these were just them pretending to record. Stella and her kids are practically living in Mariah's Calabasas home judging by the hundred photos of them in and around her house. So expect to see a lot of them. Honestly, I hope Mariah knows what she is doing. This is a major step especially after she has been so vocal about her dislike for such platforms so she should be careful. Tone down the chaise lounge, champagne splashes, and uber diva behavior on camera and instead show the real intelligent side of your personality, you talent, your insight. Use the platform to re-brand yourself, not to continue only with the "just for laughs" jokes that people are bound to misunderstand.

Reality TV (60,330)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

B, Luke and Licia, ugh tell me about it. I knew there is an unscripted series in the making because months back it was confirmed that Stella and her partner Brian are producing it. I was hoping real hard that it was more of a documentary than a straight up "reality show". I don't understand why it is named "Mariah's Squad" if it is about Mariah's backstage rituals and Mariah? I really don't care to know about her "squad" which now consists of only the Bulochnikovs. She should have kept it "A butterfly in Vegas" or "A butterfly around the world" whatever. I agree with all of you when you say people won't really get Mariah's personality. It might in fact lead to people disliking her more because they would take her "just for laughs" diva-ness as the real thing. I don't want just the cameras following her like they do with Kardashians, of her just sitting and eating salads and all. But I guess it would include those since a camera man is always following her around nowadays, you can even see him in the "I still don't know her" video and it was mentioned she had the interviewers sign an agreement that this might be used for her show when she was doing interviews at 1OAK. I would rather have some real moments like seeing her pre-show rituals, her rehearsals, how she sometimes writes songs during tours. I would like her to be vocal about difficulties she faced in the past few years (like B said), instead of just sweeping it under the rug. This can help her connect with people if she is genuine and down to earth. Also like Licia said, I hope it doesn't delay her album further. I would like her to take this opportunity (since she is going to do the show either ways) to show behind the scenes moments of her recording the song, or trying out melodies to see which one sounds better. You know just how she records her songs. It will help people know that she is not just a dtizy diva with a big voice but an intelligent songwriter and producer. Since they are calling it a "docu-series" there will definitely be more than 1 part I am sure, but I hope they don't cheapen her and make it a season long. 3-4 parts is more than enough. Stella is behind Paris Hilton's "My new Bff", I'll just leave you all to ponder over that haha.

Mariah's Squad (60,318)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
It has been confirmed that Mariah will be doing a reality show name "Mariah's Squad" which will feature behind the scenes moments of her Vegas show and her new tour. I hope this is less "reality tv drama" and more "behind the scenes and true Mariah moments" where people get to see her funny down to earth style. It has already been mentioned that Mariah is hilarious on the show so I am excited for that and I do want to see her backstage rituals and all and how she prepares for shows. I just wish it wasn't named "Mariah's Squad". It sounds a little childish. And Lord brace yourself to see Stella's babies in every shot since they are always there and if Stella's instagram is anything to go by, they also recorded parts with her daughters. Or it might just be a shot of them pretending to be on camera, I don't know. But Stella please lose the name "Mariah's Squad".

Article: Las Vegas shows a complete disaster? (60,306)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Oh wow this article seems so legit, I can't even. Like the name of the source gives it enough credibility (spelling Stars with a "Z", because they are not mainstream like you "less-ers"). I didn't know that Celine has started twerking on stage in bedazzled bodysuits and feather boa now because how else has she been in the Vegas game for so many years, selling out shows like hot cakes with "just her voice". I mean it's not like people listen to singers for their voice or talent right? Also to hell with Caesar's Palace business, they will incur loss to keep Mariah's ego afloat right? Seriously though who writes these articles? There should be a limit to how much people can just make up articles to create drama. First of all if they want to compare Mariah's show to anyone, it should be Celine's. Secondly JLo just started her residency, of course her first few shows may do better because it's the newest act, and this is Mariah's third leg of the residency.

Haha as much as I have been advocating Mariah toning down the shades, this shade in particular was so flawless, I just can't. I mean who would have thought she would come up with a flawless remix of the O.G. legendary shade a decade later and make it even better than the original. Mariah - queen of remixes.

M, I agree with everything you said, including what you feel about "Infinity" and how it reflected the place she was at around that time and Vegas. But think about, had she had to write something for Vegas, especially to accompany and conclude her iconic #1's don't you think it should have been a stronger song? Something the brand "Mariah Carey" is known for? Secondly before "Infinity", Mariah had a string of under performing singles (I am not judging the quality, just talking about chart performance), which has already kind of downgraded her chart potential. So then to think "Infinity" would make the desired impact (a hit song) after all the failed efforts, was honestly a little naive (if not stupid) and so now people like Wendy has an opinion stating "Mariah doesn't have 3 more #1's in her soul". Crazy. Then I have seen articles already with headlines of "Could Rihanna be the one to beat the Beatles record?" Like people now are not even counting Mariah that she is next in line, they straight up jumped to Rihanna. I hope you get what I mean. These are just my 2 cents.

Preach sister, preach. LA isn't even hiding his intention of turning Mariah into a legacy act. First releasing a greatest hits, then going on print saying it won't be easy (or possible) for Mariah to rule charts again and that he would like her to sing from the Old American Songbook. Hyping up "Infinity" as the modern day WBT. Look "Infinity" isn't as bad as I thought it was when I heard it first but is this the single one should chose when they are trying to make a comeback? Heck no. It should have been left as an album cut only. Then to put this along with her iconic #1 songs was the height of stupidity. If they wanted to add something to her #1's album it should have been a classic Mariah big ballad, or a classic Mariah hip-hop collaboration. These are the 2 things she is known most for.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I have someone really close to my heart that is self destructing and no matter how much I try to help, they go back to their self destructing ways. Mariah tried to help Alison many times and every time Alison went back to her self destructing ways. Alison is an adult, Mariah can't force her to do anything. But she tried to help only to have her go back to doing exactly what she needs to avoid. Mariah is a mother now, so she also has to take into consideration how Alison's behavior will affect her children. Mariah couldn't help Alison despite trying many times, but she did the next best thing. She helped Alison's son. She is still in good terms with him because she was seen with him after her divorce went public and then he came to defend her when Morgan started throwing stones at Mariah. So don't just call someone heartless without knowing about them. We don't know the extent to which Mariah helped her family and others close to her. Have you considered that she might have gone to support Elton's AIDs foundation because it is a cause that is close to her heart and home because of Alison? Also why so salty about her ring? It was a gift, she didn't choose to take the 10 million away from Alison and get herself a massive ring, someone gave it to her and I am sure he knows more about her heart than you and I would ever know.

I say Mariah just shake off these feud rumors and release 2 stone groove smash hit singles. (1) "I Don't Know Her (Who?)" (featuring J to the Lo and Nicki Minaj). She can sample SIO by using the intro "Hoo hoo hoo hoo" as "Who who who". (2) "Hasn't been popular since seventh grade (I hope they achieve longevity)" (featuring Madonna and Ariana Grande). We'll have the 2 additional number 1s to tie The Beatles.

Re: JLo and Mariah "Epic" showdown (60,161) (60,166)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I agree with you Lee TS. I have always thought Mariah's new team is not as great as some like to believe. So far the only thing we got from the team is people to stop hating on MC as much but it is still not in the level of like Bieber (who people used to hate passionately but now all they can talk about is how amazing his new album is and all that, his management did great). I have mentioned it before, Mariah needs a strong team who is from the music industry and her current team is not really from this industry. Stella and Brian (is that the name, I forgot) are TV producers. They are good with mediocre reality TV shows like Paris Hiltons' My BFF, which was a washed up attempt especially after the success of "The Simple Life". Everyone was so hyped up and pumping during the release of "Infinity" talking about how the roll out was awesome, but was it? Yes the album cover (1 to Infinity) reveal was a little eventful, but that's it. The single release was messy. Like we were supposed to get video plus music on the same day, instead we ended up getting a cheap lyric video. The video didn't happen for weeks. In addition to Stella not being very powerful in the music industry, we have LA Reid, who is doing Lord knows what. I mean to choose "Infinity" (which is cute and all but not the greatest) as Mariah's comeback single and hype it up as the new WBT was misleading and backfired. I don't know how capable he was during TEOM, but he is a mess now. If this continues, her move to Epic won't really have the impact on her career that she thought would happen. Def Jam at least tried with her. People bring up how Def Jam basically ruined MIAM's chances but we can't really blame them only. Mariah announced way ahead before the album release that she is moving to Epic. (She didn't announce, she gave a huge hint.) Which may have caused DJ to be less motivated to promote her and instead focus on their other artists. Plus Mariah kept pushing the album release and by that time other artists on their roster were ready to release their material. So ya. Anyways, all in all Mariah's current team is messy and like you said the only achievements they have had are by milking off her brand name.

JLo and Mariah "Epic" showdown (60,158)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Well LA signed her so are we now suspecting that LA is trying to sabotage Mariah? Come on you guys. JLo is not exactly hot property right now, she took whatever contract was offered to her. My concern is that Epic is not a strong label to begin with and in my opinion they would focus most of their resources on newer acts (and that too is not being handled well). So to sign two stars who are not exactly new, is a weird move. Like are they so confident that they can give both of them a new comeback? I am concerned that with JLo now being in Epic and her team knowing how to market her well, I hope it doesn't cause the label to take resources away from Mariah. I wasn't exactly happy with MC's move to Epic to begin with and now having JLo on the same boat, it looks like they'll have to fight over the resources. I don't know what LA was thinking. I mean I get it, it's a business and LA has to think about making money more and keep his personal relationship separate but I mean JLo is not exactly selling millions so what exactly made him sign her?

Re: Gotta say it (60,124) (60,129)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

My response about JLo remains the same. It was the best thing she could have said at that point. In my post, when I said I didn't find her response offensive, I was solely taking into account only that response at that particular time. Everything she said or did earlier is irrelevant here because one doesn't need Einstein to understand that JLo and MC don't gel well. So I know what she said before, but when I said that was the best thing she could say without sounding bitchy or shading Mariah, it was solely (and I emphasize solely) about that one quote where she said why she didn't go to her concert. She is an A-list celeb like it or not, and they have images to maintain for their own brands. What did you expect her to say? Oh I don't like Mariah so I didn't go? Or I was scared Mariah would publicly ignore me at her show so I didn't go? When Mariah is asked about JLo she says "I don't know her" (which she then defends saying she only meant she didn't know JLo personally) but we know MC hates JLo, but will Mariah ever say "I hate her, she is a lying thief and given the chance I would grill her big booty?" No right? Why? Because Mariah is an A-list so she has her brand and she won't dive head first into a public insult. So same goes for JLo. In that time frame when she had to say why she didn't go, she could either say I didn't go because I hate Mariah or say I just couldn't make time (even though it is a lie). It's simple as that. They are not normal people like us that they can just say whatever comes to their head about the other person. What I found offensive in that segment was when JLo said "it was a long performance" (when she defended her texting scandal during the BBMAs). It wasn't a long performance and the way she said "long" kind of made is sound like she meant boring. So that's it.
