About Edouard from France: Favourite song ever : Always Be My Baby......and Butterfly.....and..

The Art of Letting Go conversation (74,219) by Edouard from France
I recently listened to TAOLG again. It doesn't appear on any album and I'm still very much attached to listening to music via my CD player. I like the realness of the CD format and experience. I must say that I have a new found appreciation for that song because it has become clear to me what Mariah tried to achieve with that song. I am now convinced it was meant to be the opening track of Me I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse album. It fits perfectly and it would have been great. I don't see where else it could have fitted in the tracklisting. It would have been a great opener, both musically and lyrically. Also I don't know if you remember the short promo clip of MIAM with the violins and orchestra. We can hear some of these sessions on TAOL as well as on Make It look Good. I believe these 2 songs where meant to appear back to back on the album. But the project evolved and I believe the label wanted to go with a more EDM sound. That could be the reason behind the instrumentation on You're Mine (Eternal) as well as the fact that it is reminiscent (though different) to We Belong Together. Also I think Mariah may have chosen to go with YME as a sing of trust that her relationship with Nick Cannon could become stronger again. I think she sacrificed the first direction she wanted to go with the album (releasing TAOL) in order to protect her marriage and family as well as singing into existence another chance at their relationship. TAOL is actually amazing. The instrumentation could have been stronger, especially on the second verse. The song takes too long to really kick in. That's the only thing that bothers me. The lyrics are great. Modern yet timeless and classy. The voice is strong and very early Mariah. Full voice. Straight vocals. Very English Pop RnB in my opinion. It reminds me of the song "Stop" on the Bridget Jones soundtrack (I believe it was a cover). Also, it's interesting to see how lately, some females singers have had success (more or less) with this type of songs that Mariah revived with TAOL: [...] Rihanna with Love on the Brain, etc. The promotion of TAOLG was disappointing. But the song is good, the live version are even better and reintroduced Mariah as the Mariah we first fell in love with (piano, background vocalists and all)although I must say I first fell in love with Hip Hop Mariah. TAOLG, I can't seem to let it go.

Why should a woman's vulnerability be the only way for people to accept her sensuality and sexuality? Think about it.

When has Mariah ever been not surrounded with people who are not to be played with? Starting with her. Dah.

Okay the censoring completely destroyed my post and makes it sound like I said bad things towards Céline. I'm not referencing Céline obviously .

Re: AI producers (74,142) (74,152) by Edouard from France
I believe Mariah agreed to do Idol on the condition that it would be a quality show. She saw an opportunity to reintroduce real artistry in the medium (hence her comments on the importance of songwritting) and was led to believe it would be all about the music. Instead she became part of a circus that she had no input on, that was no her at all. She probably felt trapped because, obviously, she could not get away from it once she had signed. I think it is incredibly violent to be put in that position where your image, everything you have worked for and stand for, is used and abused like that. No matter how many millions it represents. It must be a horrible feeling to be paid that much and to be denied the right to publicly complain about it. Because that wouldn't be PC of course. So she just went with it, no matter the cost. I think that's why Mariah believes she has to surround herself with people who are not to be toyed with. Mariah, women in general, are not being respected by the music business.

I'm not sure I was clear enough in my earlier post, especially regarding [...] whom I believe can't enounciate properly. Her diction sounds like yogourt more than English. The women I mentioned women are incredible women. I forgot Céline I'm sorry. [...] is so full of herself and so early in her [...] it's unbelievable. If you listen to Mariah's early interviews, you can sense that she holds her talent dear and that's she's proud of her artistry as a validation of who she is. Yet she never comes across as someone who has "arrived". She only allows to project that vibe now, more than 20 years into her career. And to be honest I don't mind. She's earned it

Something all great female artists have in common (74,133) by Edouard from France
I believe Mariah, Mary J, Beyoncé, Janet, even Madonna, Rihanna and Britney Spears (whom I don't think is a great artist per say but I recognize her importance in the pop world and I like her as a person) all have something in common: they are opened to their vulnerability as much as they are strong, fearless and powerful. They are all humbled by their success and it took them years to fully own their status. Side note: I watched an interview about Ariana Grande today and I almost chocked when she bragged about her artistry and her songwriting like it was nothing.

I'm with you Hanna. Your earlier post made sense and I'm glad to see I'm not alone. Those who are positive on this board might not be as vocal as the naysayers because we basically have a life, a life MC has greatly influenced because she has taught us to be openminded and nonjudgmental.

Re: Patricia Carey's "To Start Again" on YouTube (74,111) (74,114) by Edouard from France
It's interesting how, even though Pat and Mariah's voices are different, you can here they share their great sense of musicality. It's very apparent on the accoustic songs where Patricia mixes her operatic voice with more pop/country/traditionnal vocals. The fact that Mariah tends to create melodies meant to be sung in the highest keys is a direct influence from her mother's, I believe. Love it. It's also interesting to play Patricia's acccustic songs and Mariah's "Right to dream"/"Help me make it through the night"/"Vanishing"/"One Child"/"Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" back to back.

Re: The Art of Letting Go (74,063) (74,066) by Edouard from France
I think it's a great song too. I love the live versions better. The production of the track is a little bit too sparse IMO. Its build up takes a little bit too long to arrive. I love it anyway.

Stand by me (74,026) by Edouard from France
I watched the movie "Stand by Me" the other day. It's from 1986 and Mariah was supposed to wright [sic] or use songs she had at the time for the soundtrack. I wonder if some songs on her first album would have been used had she chosen to go that direction instead of Sony. The movie is set in the 50's so sic I don't really see which song from her could have been used from the 1st album. Maybe from Emotions, since that album had influences from past decades. I don't know. This movie is quite good. Many well known actors of today in it: John Cusak, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Corey feldman, young Jerry O'connel etc. Interesting don't y'all think?

Mariah forgets the camera in this interview (74,022) by Edouard from France
A very icy French interview that I had never seen before. A nice journalist, good questions, true answers even to the questions she doesn't want to really answer. It's a radio interview where she's being filmed and you can sense that's she's comfortable having this conversation with the host. She forgets about the camera. This is Mariah, the one everybody in the business talks about (Leed [sic] Daniels, Jussie Smolett, Kelly Clarkson, etc.). The beautiful soul.

Mariah, beautiful inside and out (74,021) by Edouard from France
I just watched the Glaad awards again. Rarely has any show captured Mariah's soul so well. You can tell how beautiful she is inside and out through Lee Daniels speech. Her sense of humour and how humble she is through her speech. How funny she is and how she doesn't take herself too seriously at the 3'40 of Laverne Cox's speech. I love this woman.

One thing I like about the remix of I Don't (73,948) by Edouard from France
I like the fact that the "I know you love me part" is shortened in the end and not repeated twice. I like this part, don't get me wrong, but I always thought it kind of slowed down the original version. I also like the fact that it's not repeated twice, before and after YG's rap so that Mariah's last chorus comes earlier and is even more impactful. IMHO

Re: New pics (73,911) (73,914) by Edouard from France
I think this woman is phenomenal. Just a thought: I always thought that Mariah not wearing a bra was sort of like an act of feminism on her part. She started doing that a lot during 1997/1998/1999 and throughout the Rainbow era and ever since. I think it's an act of liberation/emancipation, probably because they made her shut down her femininity for so long. I think it's bold and brave and you can tell she's just more relaxed, confortable when she wears something open. I like to wear my shirts quite open (no chess hair), because I feel more confortable that way.

Re: Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,876) (73,877) by Edouard from France
Totally agree. I believe Mariah's so respectful of those she was inspired by. She's never outsinging them, because I think she has ethics. She's also scared and she only sings with people who she knows will be supportive and sing with her. She sings with them, never against them. She treats these performances as an honour (because she's a fan first and foremost) and never trats them as a platform for her own promo/ego. I love Mariah.

Re: March is almost over (73,735) (73,736) by Edouard from France
And I think it worked as a distraction. The song is good but I think Mariah believes in her duet with Busta more. With [...] she got the relationship off of her chest, which is good. We are the 17th. It's not the end of the month just yet. Mariah's birthday is on the 27th, get it?
