This was one "The Voice" got right, and the show seemed to get a lot of credibility as she was seemingly taking off and then not. I only heard of her when she had passed, it's so sad. This girl could've been a massive big star by now. I come back to her audition ever so often.

That [era] is when I became a die hard lamb. Haha. I had a "When You Believe" cassette tape and used to record music videos on VHS and anytime Mariah came on even if the song was almost through I'd hit record without fail. Oh and how VH1 loved Mariah Carey, I bet there was a lamb working there at the time. Where did time go?

This is so random, for you to mention them out of the blue as I have been playing and singing "Last Chance" the greater part of this month randomly, that song is written and sung beautifully. I once played it for a die hard CĂ©line Dion fan friend of mine and he went "It sounds so Mariah, It's near perfect." Lol. Crazy how Mariah's sound is instantly recognizable even when she isn't singing, her sense of melodies and what works musically is 2nd to none. If there's a version of hers in the vault I hope she releases it together with other songs recorded during that time period - '97/98 that era wasn't represented on the first rarities.

I'm glad we see things from a different perspective. You see this is exactly what I love about Mariah and her catalogue, there's something there for everyone - testament to her mass appeal and we all interpret these records and eras differently.

Haha. You stay [sic] always trying to make me "lose credibility" like [it's] a published critique, [it's] just an opinion Mr. Bill. There's a category of songs that are fan favorites I personally don't gravitate towards but some others swear by, [it's] just a matter of personality and taste. "To The End of Time" falls in that category reasons best known to me. Heck even Mariah herself doesn't like some of her own songs. Duh. Exactly my point.

This song gets better the more you play it, and her vocals sound so much better than on [Caution], I'm kinda left wondering are they recent vocals since she hinted it was written in 2012 (or was that a different song). It seems she's really working on her sound and I love that.

"And light years better than the debut album." Um no sir, [we're] not gonna sit here and act like that [debut] album isn't single handedly the biggest debut ever (all caps) for an artist. "Emotions" [pales] in comparison to the debut. Let's just put it this way. The debut album has "Vision of Love" and "Love Takes Time" two mammoth classics, and "Emotions" has "You're so cold". I only ever play four songs from that record: 1. Can't Let Go 2. Make It Happen 3. Emotions 4. The Wind Take these four out and you have fillers.

I love your optimism. Haha. "Can't Let Go" for me is the only non number 1 song I feel like should've gone to the top, that song is so hauntingly popular and mysterious like so many people know the song but don't know who sang it. Also "Anytime You Need a Friend".

I can't believe she's passed, so suddenly too. This news hit me like a tonne of bricks, maybe it was covid-19 related. She's one of the few songwriters that defined the 90's and early 2000's. Damn the Legends are dying off.

No Robert. Just no. She's never going to top Proctor's performance of that song, and should not be trying to re-record it. Even the 2009 version she did came across as "iffy" and too cautious.

Oh my, I always wondered this too. Especially how her voice has constantly kept changing yet remaining the same, it lost some qualities along the way and then gained others. Mariah has the most intriguing voice I have ever heard.

I have a feeling that we're going to get songs from the years that were skipped on the first CD, I think from about 1997 to year 2000 and then again all the other years. Wow. She's got so much unreleased music, recall that demo CD she was rumoured to be working on? That too could see the light of day. I would melt if she released "Sky Diving", do you know just how much I [love] that song? To me it kind of picks up where "Underneath The Stars" left off (insinuating even the best things, come to an end relationships included). Even in it's demo form, [it] is a standout song.

"Pressure", [a] new song by Ari Lennox, is a total [bop]. I was pleasantly surprised. She's giving substance, attitude, and most of all personality on this track. The song definitely is a standout from all the crap being churned out. Produced by Jermaine and co, [seems] there's hope after all.

Check out Diana Ross's [new song] "If The World Just Danced". I kinda love it. (Does this woman have a bad song when you really check? I don't think she does.) And yeah I don't really even checkout new music at this point, everything is in the same key, same beats, same voices, same auto-tuned soulless crap - listen to one, you've heard them all. The music doesn't have color anymore. It's so unfortunate. Seems Mariah Carey's gonna have to save music again for the third time. Haha.

I always thought this was one of her most engaging and creative vocal performances ever, the way the song just builds steadily and climaxes. She really begun exploring new ways of singing songs in the late 90's and early 2000s that had a "wow" effect like the verse she sang on the "Make it last" remix of "Thank God I found You" and the live version of "O Holy Night" - very unexpected and unpredictable. By "The Emancipation of Mimi", she's an expert with this style of singing which we hear on songs like "Mine Again", "We Belong Together", "Joy Ride" and "Circles".

At this point, I'm not looking forward to any more rap collaborations. At this point, that rap thingy is so tired. It is time for Mariah to do something out of the box.

I'm still not over her death. Such potential, she was just getting started. Smh. Worst still is there's actually video footage of her last day - the day of the plane crash on YouTube.

Did Mariah Carey and Dev Hynes [sample] Minnie Riperton on her song "Take a Little Trip" for "Giving me Life"? Sure sounds melodically very similar.

Honestly, I really don't care for Duets with Mariah and other artists period. I have found out that my best Mariah Carey songs are rarely the duets and more when she's alone on the track. Something about her sound, talent and gifting strikes me as larger than life and doesn't quite merge well with other artists, I guess this is what Chaka Khan meant when she said "artists are like planets and not everyone is compatible". Lol. A few times she's gotten it right - the duets that is with Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men and Miguel.

Mariah's voice (98,406)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I [love] this woman so I am not gonna bash her nor rehash what she could've done different then, I respect her enough to acknowledge she was young, made mistakes like we all have and did the best she could at the time. What I wanna see Mariah do now is seek professional help. Ditch the bubbly and become more disciplined and dedicated to her craft and instrument. Yes Mariah you're a songwriter but you are also a [singer] and not just a singer, but a [vocalist] of the highest caliber and one third of the vocal trinity. I [still] believe in her gift, talent and writing abilities a hundred percent.
