Miss you most at Christmas time (101,943)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
AIWFCIY is everywhere right now. And I still love it. But "Miss you most at Christmas time" is just as wonderful. Just the opposite moodwise. I love this song so much and it belongs to Christmas too. Pure Mariah, pure magic. "Every other season comes a long and I'm all right, but then I miss you most at Christmas time" so true. The video is pretty too. Just beautiful Mariah, nothing more.

Whoopi Goldberg mocks Mariah (101,900)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Yes, that title suits her better. Don''t get me wrong, I love "AIWFIY" and her Christmas songs. But what really made her outstanding are songs like "Vision of love", "Everything fades away", "Without you", of course the whole Emotions, Daydream and Butterfly album. Plus debut and Music Box. The voice on the first ten years, the lyrics, the emotion makes her the "Queen of Music" forever. There will never be someone like Mariah.

Darlene Love can have that poor and shitty "Queen of Christmas" title. I've always tought Mariah was much more that to anyone. She is the "Queen of Music". Nothing less.

Why is everyone surprised? (101,858)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Yes. I had to stop watching the clip. Too painful to watch. It looks like Mariah wants to sing and "deliver" but she just can't. And she knows it. Whatever the reasons are, it's so sad. She really seems struggling. Someone should take care of her as a human being not just manage the star.

Yes, the 90ies were too good to be true. But they were. Luckily the memories will stay forever. 80ies and 90ies, that feeling that was going on, maybe youngsters will never understand. Every "outdated" movie and music from that time is a thousand times better than most of the trash today. It was original, with heart and soul and really fun to have witnessed it.

Macy's performance (101,676)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
"Thank God I saw her in 1996 on the Daydream tour when she was actually a competent and capable singer." That time was simlpy magic on stage. Almost unreal. There's a reason 95 and 96 was Mariah mania around the world. I remember she had one concert in Germany, it was immediately sold out. If I had a time machine, I would choose that date to be part of the audience. You are really lucky to have witnessed her live during her Daydream tour.

Who'd have thought MC would lip sync. Colour me stunned. You're looking at $150-200 for one ticket to the Christmas concert. Plus travel and hotel if you're not based in New York. If you want to pay that much to watch her lip sync, get her hair and make up fixed on stage, bemoan the lighting, stick a finger in her ear, ramble on about her ensemble, drink champagne, and bark out an off key "EH" every so often, that's your prerogative.
Thank God I saw her in 1996 on the Daydream tour when she was actually a competent and capable singer.

Yes. I think it's okay when people call her "Queen of Christmas". But it's no brandmark. I love Christmas and Mariah's Christmas songs, but less is more. I don't need cookies and all the other stuff. I'm happy with the classic "MC album", MC II", the deluxe edition and The Star soundtrack.

Appreciation for "Bring on the Heartache" [sic] (101,613)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |

|
Absolutely. The song is outstanding. It sticks out from "Chatmbracelet". For me a surprising but still classic Mariah song at it's best. I always say I need a Mariah jazz album (still do) but I would also take a "80ies style rock album". Mariah's look and tribute to "The Rose" were wonderful. She looks so pretty with Boho-style.

Appreciation for "Bring on the Heartache" [sic] (101,611)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
This cover (Bring on the Heartache [sic]) needs way more love then it ever gets. The interpretation of this song, the video, the cloths, style and head scarf, the build up, the full belts, the whistle note, the electric guitar. This is what Rock-Riah looks and sounds like. I feel like it gets lost in the mix (no pun intended, Mix-ish) for some reason. What if this was the lead single from Charmbracelet instead of TTR?. This song makes a statement, and gives me all the tingles and feels. I’d love if Mariah did an ‘80’s style rock album like this. Give us raspy, give us pain, give us Boho fashion and the big hair dahling.

It's that kind of documentary where there are parts dramatized by actors. I think they call it "docudrama"? Anyway, it used to be on YouTube, but now I can't find it. You can read more info on IMDB. It has a better score than Glitter, lol. 6,8 is not bad at all.

Mariah is seeking a lead actress to play her in a series inspired by her memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey". According to her, she doesn't care if the actress can sing, she just wants a talented actress. Do you guys have any suggestions?
PS: I would also like to point out that the doppelganger who played her in the Lifetime movie (Mariah: The Diva, the Demons, the Drama) really looked like her and could be a body double or something lol. You can find her on Instagram by the alias @Mariahlookalike and her name is Jessica Castro.

by Bill from the UK

Quite. I can put my hand on my heart and say that I could have sang better than Mariah did. Honestly. That is what is really worrying. Someone whose voice was completely untouchable, and as Tommy said when he discovered her, "she is the best singer I have ever heard", to actually being one of the worst singers still performing, is almost incredible. It's so sad to witness. She can live off AIWFCIY's annual royalties, so why does she need the "money grab"? Retire from singing and write songs for others and focus on your other projects. The dolls have stopped dancing now.

This song goes hard in a peculiar satisfying way. It hasn't aged at all and even sounds stronger today. It came on when working out on my playlist and it was a pleasant surprise to listen to after not playing it in quite a while. Just a total bop and fun record, I can see why it went number one. . Funny enough it is one of those rare moments that in hind sight, the video is a perfect match for the song. Haha. Why was that era so short?

Dear Terna. Welcome to the club. I remember years ago, when you could not write a message like this. We all miss that MC we used to know, and I guess you now understand the goats from the early 90's. I love the performance you refer to, and I wish she could still do that, but at this point I'm thinking that she has nothing more to prove, and I will always think of that out of this world voice she provided us with in the beginning of her career. No one can top that. Vision of Love is the proof of that. Of course I want her success in the future, but she has proven so much at this point that it's almost not human.

Randy, I know what you mean. I think the ones who grew up with her music or "know" Mariah for so long have another view on certain things. But we always want her to "win" and that she gives the best she can. I haven't watched the performance yet, I hope I can find it online today. I'm glad that most of you liked her gig.

I would also love a country album from Mariah. "Right to Dream" and "Help me make it trough the night" are wonderful. What I love about Mariah is, that she can do any music genre and sounds phenomenel. Country and Jazz [are] complete different styles, but Mariah can do both of them. I'm even curious about the rock-grunge album.

I really enjoyed to read the link with the charts from 97. Good music, I could listen to all the songs today with a smile. I'm so happy to have witnessed the 90ies music. But I can't believe it's been 25 years since Butterfly was released. I remember it, as it was yesterday. I love the two new remixes, it takes me back to a better time. Almost like the time machine from "Doc Brown". The live versions of "Butterfly" and "My All" are very emotional and so good, although well-known by the lambily. Butterfly is the perfect album for autumn. Thanks to Mariah for giving us the anniversary edition for Butterfly. It's good for the soul.

Excatly, it was released in Europe. I remember it was played a lot on MTV but didn't chart high compared to "Honey". So I also think "Butterfly" wouldn't have been a "hit" in the US at that time. "Honey" and "My all" were the number ones, rightly so. I would have loved to see "The roof" at number one back then, maybe on the US charts.
But all the live performances with "Butterfly" and the video playing on MTV, the many interviews with MC, it was wonderful. So many good memories. The music generally had another quality.
