Yes, it's really the worst video. I watched it maybe 8 times, because I couldn't believe what I saw. It's the only Mariah video I won't watch again. Plus I try to forget that "horrible" time with Crustella. If Mariah chooses not to "acknowledge time", I choose to forget what happened during "I don't".

That is one of the worst Mariah videos ever. That and Auld Lang Syne. I can't believe she's in it, when I first saw it. She looked great, but it's like low budget and shot on an iPhone. At least Auld Lang Syne is camp.

Article: The top producers of the 21st century on the Hot 100 (110,604)

You aren't wrong. Beyoncé is overrated and I don't know why there's still such a hype. It can't be because of the music only. Someone wrote here, she has a great management and image. I loved her music when she's was with Destiny's Child. That was perfect produced late 90ies RNB. Every song a hit and radio friendly. But as a solo artist, there's nothing really special. That "Texas" song was cool but so many Grammys? It's not fair. But maybe it's because she's such a beautiful woman and good dancer, so it's enough for the people to get entertained. Compared to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Glady's Knight, these are the vocal queens beside Mariah. Sade is another great female singer. Her tone is beautiful and so relaxed.

Why is Beyoncé way higher than Mariah (and a lot of the other producers on this list)? I read (on Reddit a long time ago) that she doesn't even write her songs. I read she changes a few words and claims credit. That's her contribution. Are we living in the upside down? How can she, in good conscience, even accept that honor? Does she even deserve all those Grammys she has? She has a great voice, and some great songs, but is she actually the producer? I don't follow her that closely, so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, the rock pic. It was also on the tour magazine. Such a cool picture from her. I also love the influenced pics from the Bete Midler movie. That style was so beautiful on Mariah.

Mariah would rock so hard. When I was young (a teen) I didn't like rock music. I was in the rnb and pop "bubble". But now I love rock plus Rock & Roll. I'm open for almost every genre, as long as it's good, real and heartfelt with real musicians. There are so many good rock songs out there Mariah could cover or write by her own. "Bringin on the Heartbreak" is such a gem, really. I still think of the version she did during the Charmbracelet concert that I atend, it was the best and outstanding. I hope Mariah releases "Someone's ugly daughter" as a bonus. It would surprise many and only positive.

I would legitimately love to see Mariah step outside her comfort zone and do some alternative rock covers. We all know she has a secret rocker side that's waiting to be unleashed. I honestly thought that was going to happen when she and Courtney Love were photographed together with Lee Daniels 10 or so years ago.
I also legitimately would have loved for Aretha Franklin to do a song like Bjork's "Army of Me". That would have been cool to hear.

Yes, "Dreamlover" is simply perfect. She set her own bar too high. What she created in the past can't be beaten by anybody including hetself. What a young Mariah did musicwise will forever be in the history of music and charts. That's why she's a legend because of songs like that.

I'm listening to Dreamlover and comparing against Type Dangerous and Sugar Sweet... there is absolutely no comparison. Dreamlover is just a perfect pop song, one of the best things she ever did. Her voice, the harmonies, the backgrounds, the melody... it is perfect. Oh Mariah come back please.

It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,572)

That sounds horrible. I have no knowledge in medicine, so thanks for the info. All I know is, that it's always better to use as less medicine and chemistry as it's possible. So yes, you need a good doctor who you can trust. It's the same for us "normal people". To find a good one isn't easy. I hope Mariah isn't overworking again. Her latest traumas are indeed too much for one human. Poor Mariah.

It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,566)
by Lambi from USA

This is the same exact medication Britney Spears takes. Another tidbit: lithium requires regular blood monitoring to stay within a safe range. Too little = ineffective. Too much = toxic. Lithium is also risky for diabetics. If the kidneys are already under stress from diabetes, lithium can increase the risk of kidney dysfunction or even failure. Mariah needs to actually pay attention to her dosage.
She probably had a breakdown around the time Pat and Alison passed. A legitimate mental collapse that's hard to navigate. The sadness in her eyes on St. Patrick's Day said it all.
Let's keep Mariah in our prayers, lambs. It really is the elephant in the room that she's suffering from serious, debilitating health issues. I pray she receives the wisdom to listen to her body. I also pray the Holy Spirit warns her if any doctors are suspicious. It's not hard for them to be paid off by elites.
Nonetheless, I'm elated she's still here, always working on something. She truly is doing the best with what she's got.

I don't buy it too. Yes, since 2001 mental problems got public. It was a sad time to have witnessed. The breakdown was everywhere in the press and media back then. But with "Charmbracelet" Mariah seemed recovered, her interviews were honest and very enjoyable. She looked healthy and fit with and without the sunglasses. But the latest interviews are hard to watch. Something seems a bit strange. I really wish Bryan Tanaka would still be there. He seemed to be a big "rock in the surf".

That would be awesome. The ladies are the best. They are a part of the magic that Mariah's music had in the 90ies. Everything was on point back then. That power and soul of the voices, real musicians. All songs they did together are a pleasure to listen to. I can't wait to hear the new songs with them.

Back to chart obsession (110,542)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

"I knew the first time I heard Type: Dangerous and Sugar Sweet they weren't hits. Cool songs. Not hits." I knew it too by the first listen. But "Throgh the rain" was played a lot back then in Germany. Every day on the radio and music TV. It was a hit here. The last hits from Mariah in Germany were "It's like that" and of course "We belong together", which entered the charts worldwide. Personally I don't need another hit from Mariah, but a song with strong lyrics and a heartfelt melody. That's all I'm looking for right now.

Back to chart obsession (110,532)
by Randy from USA

Jaker for once we agree. People will love a song and then when it doesn't do well, it was a bad single choice. Mariah does it too. One of my favorite songs is Through The Rain and Mariah has bad talked that. Although during the promotional tour, she said it was an anthem. The same with Bye Bye, which I love. Mariah talks about how that was a bad single choice, but she promoted it everywhere. No one knows whether a song will be a hit because if they did, everyone would have number ones. I knew the first time I heard Type: Dangerous and Sugar Sweet they weren't hits. Cool songs. Not hits. Can I bring Adele up for the fifty million time? Why does only Adele understand that a heartfelt ballad as a lead single will go to number one because it reaches across generations and music delivery formats? I was disgusted to watch Hello make 25 go diamond and Easy on Me make 30 sell in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, and for as much as I love those two songs, I'm sitting by thinking, Mariah does ballads better than anyone. And yet she keeps churning out modern r&b. Final thought and it's still a repeat. I don't know what Mariah or Gamma thought releasing these songs so early on an album so short. Was there a plan B if the songs didn't work? Type Dangerous shoulda came out the last week of July and Sugar Sweet shoulda came out the last week of August for a September 26 release. But quiet as it's kept, I kinda think Cardi B is gonna struggle. The music audience is fickle. We will see. That's all.

Do you all think? (110,512)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Of course she still can sing. But I just shared Dave's thoughts because I agree with his comment that most of the people out there (non-fans) are tired of her diva attitude. In 93, 96, 99 and even in 2005 it was okay and funny. But since the music is not like it used to be, the people are indeed tired of "I don't acknowledge time" and so on. I watched a Dolly Parton docu a few days ago, this country lady is also a little diva, but at the same time down to earth. Her interviews were funny but still very honest. Her lyrics are deeper than a lot of people think. "Little Sparrow" is genius and heartfelt. I don't want another Ariana featuring or Taylor Swift, but yes for Dolly Parton. This woman is fantastic.

I agree with everything you've written. Hundred thumbs up for "tired of the 'diva' persona, the chest always out, talking about lighting and such, and want her to do what she does (or used to do) best, which is sing. There lies the problem. She just can't sing anymore. She could get away with playing the ditzy diva role with no problem 'if' she still had the chops/voice."
I also hope the new album will surprise us. I'm really excited for the songs with the Clark Sisters (they could bring the soul back) and the Paul McCartney cover.

Do you all think? (110,500)
by Dave from USA

Yes, I think it's too late. For the starting rollout, it seemed exciting and promising. Not really sure why she went across the pond so quick with a media blitz and neglected the U.S. markets. I really thought TD would take off in some capacity, but even with a fire song/video, nothing came of it. SS was worse. They could have left that off completely. I really think people are just tired of the "diva" persona, the chest always out, talking about lighting and such, and want her to do what she does (or used to do) best, which is sing. There lies the problem. She just can't sing anymore. She could get away with playing the ditzy diva role with no problem "if" she still had the chops/voice. It's so sad to see her voice deteriorate even further. I really want to be wrong and have the album completely explode like TEOM, but reality just keeps kicking in.

Taylor Swift (110,504)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

I absolutely agree with "the only people who truly care about her are her children". And that's so sad. She needs at least one grown-up person who really cares and who is trying to protect. Family is the the most important, but we all know, she hasn't luck at all with them. It must not be a relative or a partner but at least one true person, an extreme good friend who is really there when needed. Every human needs such a person at least you're a not a completely eremit. I wish her to have that person, to find that person. It's more important than all the money and chart success. She broke every record, is a legend since the 90ies, she just should find real happiness beside the music business. With Bryan I often thought there is this one person. But sadly it didn't work out. But again I really hope there will be someone in the future. She so deserves it.

Agree, I have a feeling she might not end up shading publicly but I do wish she does because BL deserves it. As for support system Taylor doesn't only have Scott she has her mother and her brother who she recently revealed were the people who helped her get her masters back. It's so unfortunate that Mariah doesn't have anyone to protect her like that. The only people who truly care about her are her children and they are too young to provide her that support.

Here For It All (110,465)

I would love that too. The superficial things are not healthy and needed. Pamela Anderson is a great example, with "being older and wiser" than in the youth, she now loves being in the nature and she looks beautiful with that new natural look. I never thought she would change in that direction, nothing cheap anymore. It's a wonderful change. Nature is healing every human, nature doesn't care if you're Mariah Carey or not. Mariah could go to the most beautiful places on earth. And I don't mean shopping in Aspen. Just a place to relax and enjoy. Then a come back with a jazz album. One can dream. And just as a surprise releasing the "grunge" album from 95/96.

I would love Mariah to forget the glam, the diva pretense, the hair, the make up etc and take herself off to a yoga style retreat for a month where she can reconnect with herself again, focus on what's important and be one present with herself again. I suspect she's past that now tbh but I think it would be good for her to be spiritual for a while, eat healthy food, no booze. Then gradually reduce the meds and get back to being her best.

Mariah's reaction to Katy Perry skyrockets (110,403)
by Lambi from USA

For whatever reason, this is the one that every media outlet picked up and it's going insanely viral right now. It's interesting to see how the general public perceives Mariah. The comments range from: "Is she high?" "Is she drunk?" "Sedated Mariah is forever a mood," to "She sounds like she's had a few."
What's crazy is, I actually thought her recent interviews were decent, definitely better than the ones in Australia. But to the average viewer who isn't a lamb, there's no mercy; they'll just call it like they see it. I really hope she eases up on the meds. While she's not totally disoriented, it's obvious to the casual observer that something feels off.

I will never forget when I bought Daydream during the release. I still have the original cassette. My generation is also called cassette-kids here. But back to Mariah, I loved Daydream so much, when "Looking In" was playing as the last song, I coulnd't believe the sadness and the magic that this song creates until today. Pure Mariah and poetic. I memorized the lyrics back then. My favourite parts are:
She smiles through a thousand tears And harbors adolescent fears She dreams of all That she can never be She wades in insecurity And hides herself inside of me
Don't say she takes it all for granted I'm well aware of all I have Don't think that I'm disenchanted Please understand

I watched the iHeart interview, so there's a song called "Here for it all" at the end of the album? Could be a ballad. And the "Anderson .Paak song". Are the other interviews are better? Thanks for the links, I will check it.

It could be a shield because of the insane fame all over the world since such a young age. But I would love to see more of the real Mariah (like in the past), she's the fascinating one not the diva. The image has become too big sometimes, but that's just how I feel. And I think her humour is underrated, I've always loved her humour. The "mop-song" was super funny.

Mariah is actually really funny. I wished she'd done more comedies, she's always been hilarious.
Also, there is a lot of talk here about Mariah's personality. I think that is just a character she created for herself to not feel stiffed by fame and celebrity. She created this over the top character as a survival mechanism. People can pick apart, criticize and even praise that persona, which she know everyone will as she's constantly in front of the camera.
But she finds comfort in the fact that that's not really her, and she will never let us in to the real her. Alexa stream Mariah's "Outside".

I completely agree. That's why I hope on the new album are some lyrics with deeper meanings. I have nothing against some fun songs/lyrics but not the complete album. We all know her voice has changed but what I don't understand is, when she was so young she wrote like a grown-up person. Now she's a grown-up and the lyrics are so girly. Normally it's the opposite. Is it all to be trendy and to get to charts again? Wouldn't lyrics that are less girly not work better? Just a question, please don't get it wrong. Something funny, I didn't know what Fendi is. Lol, a luxury brand, now I know. I watched a docu about Gucci yesterday, there they were also talking about the other brands.

Honestly, if she's going through all that and (if) the voice is totally shot, then she's inviting the scrutiny. It would be better to walk away at that point as she would bring significant damage to her legacy. Other's can't be relied on to do the heavy lifting for a vocalist. If a vocalist has no voice, then it's time to stop.
As for the new song, I'm not surprised at all. Disappointed but not surprised. She is 56 and still talking about getting the ring and all that love struck 20 year old little girl stuff. It's not going to sell in this day and age.

I'm sure he would. Michael was one of the bests ever, how I miss his music. Compared to him all the youngsters on the charts are "small lights". The music is forgetable. But MJ's music will live forever. It's insane that "Billie Jean" is 42 years old and still sounds better than anything new. The 80ies and 90ies music are on another level. But I also love MJ's debut from the 70ies. The groove and disco sound is so much fun to dance to.

Maybe Gamma will be forced to release the 3rd single because Sugar Sweet just wasn't as sweet as they thought it would be. We are 58 days away from HFIA dropping and still no Hot 100 hit. Maroon 5 released the third single on July 17th from their new album that is dropping August 15th. It did not chart on the Hot 100 and neither did the 2nd single. The first single charted at #76. Older artists and bands just can't compete with these younger artists on the charts. I just wonder if Michael Jackson was still alive today, would he have #1 Hot 100 hits.

For me it sounds like Mariah is just a guest on her own song. And I've never heard from the two other ladies. That's why I prefer "Type Dangerous" too. The soul remix is the best. It made me playing it again and again. I'm waiting for the final tracklist of the new album, I hope most of the songs are Mariah only.

I agree Jamie. I also wish we had more of Mariah singing the song. A solo version would have been much better.

That look is what I wanted to see too. It screams superstar power. It's sexy but with class and elegance. That pic is just wow. Please more of it. So beautiful.

So refreshing to see Mariah in a suit for a magazine cover shoot. The interview itself is not that informative though.

The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,140)

Did she always had the New York accent or did she switch sometimes? It's an interesting observation. I have to watch the interviews, but I fear only a native speaker will notice. Does the New York accent sound strong for Americans from other states? I just remember an old interview with Rosie where they were talking about beeing both Long Island girls.

The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,137)

Have you noticed a change in MC's speaking voice in the past 2 months during interviews? I wonder if it is because she is just getting older or a direct correlation to her vocal decline. Her speaking voice is very raspy now and she has lost her New York accent. I noticed it first during the Apple interview when she said 11 or 12. And I noticed it again during the New Music Daily interview.
