About Andrew from UK:

Whitney Houston (82,524) by Andrew from UK
Anyone else find her live performances as obnoxious as her interviews? Just a thought.

Ha mate. Martyn loved Michael Bolton. What a great poignant post.

Re: Janet at the BBMAs (82,500) (82,502) by Andrew from UK
Point taken. I didn't like the performance or the speech, especially when I sat through the Celine totes emosh fest. But I submit. If the point of the award is simply being "iconic", well, then yes - Janet Jackson is iconic. But Mariah is surely more iconic. I'd love to know the criteria on which this is based. And not some GLAAD award where it's just "lets give it to this person". Even my dad admitted to me the other day what a global phenomenon Mariah is. And he used to hate her. Or my singing. Loud. He knows the words to Hero. I saw him lipping it recently. Thanks for the reasoned response.

Re: Janet at the BBMAs (82,494) (82,499) by Andrew from UK
Er, not to be purposely contrary but what were you watching? I watched a woman walk around slowly like she joined Rihanna's miserable make-believe military academy, lip-sync to tuneless songs and dance a bit (albeit well). To top it off she made her speech about #metoo, which is revealed as vapid self-promoting nonsense now, and then blathered on about some religious mumbo jumbo instead of thanking people who helped to get her there, or dedicate it to somebody or, I don't know, saying something interesting. Janet Jackson never really took off in the UK (except for the songs Together Again and All For You doing well) so it is probably natural that I thought it was a pile of shit. How Mariah has not received the Icon award when dance mime artists like J-Lo and J-Jack (?) get it is beyond comprehension.

Mr Martyn Hakan Hett (82,490) by Andrew from UK
It is one year ago today that Martyn Hett and others died in the bomb attack in Manchester Arena. I feel like I should write something about it. Although I have made my feelings on writing to dead people online quite clear, it seems poignant to mark the date somehow.
I only met Martyn in person once - years before we spoke on this board - but such an impression was made that I remembered him in years hence. I enjoyed his spirit and his openness to other ways of thinking (except Americans correcting his English ha) and he was always a true defender. He was always lovely. I enjoyed him. I enjoyed his exuberance. I enjoyed his honesty when discussing feelings. I wish I had gone up to Manchester when he suggested it. I wish the Friday before when we spoke had not happened. I have had many people in my life pass on, but this one was unnatural. This tore something good from the Earth unexpectedly.
It is not the date anniversary of his death but rather the day. It was a Monday evening. I was in a hotel and woke up to the news at 5am on the Tuesday. I still have the last message on my whatsapp: "Bro tell me you're okay?" The ticks never came. There was no blue. He never got it.
Martyn happened to walk right up to the silly deluded murderous thing as he struck, before the concert end. What are the chances? Probably laughing his head off, probably entertaining strangers, Martyn stopped laughing for good. I like to think he died with a smile on his face. I like to think the last thing he heard was Mariah.
I'm going to go against my own beliefs now buddy and write to you. I wish I had done things differently. I wish you were still alive. I wish you eternal rest. Till the end of time, I wish you well.

Andy.

Holey rusted metal Batman. Eternal, Always and Forever was like the first album I ever owned. Totally forgot. "Always and forever I just want you to know, I wanna be where you are, no matter how near or far." I still know the words. Lord, I feel old lmao.

Of course you read what I say. Just took a look at your message history: "The lady doth protest too much."

Dear Elizabeth. In order to prove the righteousness of your [censored] stupid point, please post pictures of you naked with special emphasis on your tits and vagina whilst holding up a sign saying "mcarchives.com". I assume you won't do this, so, let me me break it down for you: you're a bellend.

Article: Mariah Carey is "considering baring all" in a naked shoot (82,442) by Andrew from UK
This article is hilarious. Mariah is going to bear all? What's with the future tense? The only part of Mariah Carey the public hasn't seen is her vagina.

It's A&B, see? (82,410) by Andrew from UK
TEOM on the first listen was brilliant as it was a new sound and banging - until side B, so to speak, where it was the usual cooing R&B filler. The sequel was the same: the B-side was a remarkably different record to the A-side. Memoirs was all side B but MIAMLGBTQ had an A-side and a B-side just with resequencing (mostly side B before A, give or take). Mariah should keep it short and sweet with attitude and pump and no filler. Thus, as I think many fans want, a ten track album would suffice. A thousand Mariah's cooing over slow-jam-sex-synths was never one of her signature sounds and nothing anybody anywhere was really asking of her. A bit like her blowing up her titties and taking her clothes off. Nobody wanted it. Except for maybe my older brothers. And they haven't bought anything of hers in fifteen years. Funny that.

Re: The debut album (82,382) (82,385) by Andrew from UK
William, I was going to give you a thumbs up because you reminded me that There's Got To Be A Way is an actual thing and I needed a quick pick-me-up. Always makes me laugh out loud. However, I cannot give you said thumbs up because after spreadsheetgate I bet Jade you had a thin comb-over and missing teeth and I just lost said bet. Anyway, I'm off to listen to someone sing about connecting this world today and uniting this human race but providing not a shred of an idea how to achieve it. Hey, I have an idea that will stop hungry children dying... become an international superstar, earn half a billion dollars and buy the kids some food. I can almost see the meeting now: UNICEF guy: "Mariah, you did it, you're an international superstar with half a billion dollars. Now if I could just get you to sign here and here we can buy the kids the food they need and..." Mariah: "Hmmm, yeah, bout dat..."

William. The serf hast forgotten scripture. Lamb Bible, Book of Ego, Chapter 1, Verse 2: "And lo, Mariah shalt be exalted. And all her enemies shall be bitched about. This is the way and the light. And play Almost Home. Cos it be awesometh."

Re: Allure (82,360) Jamie Theakston (82,363) by Andrew from UK
Her voice is defo not Butterfly era. Let's be honest. But she looks fantastic. It reminded me of the Jamie Theakston interview during said era so I went to rewatch it. Their interviews together are classic. He somehow made a connection with her early on and she is always completely comfortable around him. The sexual tension was palpable, their flirting wonderfully entertaining. The Heart FM interview during the Memoirs era was lovely but also special as a reunion for the fact that Mariah had just been married and she found out that Jamie just gotten married and had had kids. Both of the same age, it was lovely to hear them reunite. I would have Mariah on Heart during the next UK visit to not only meet him again but to co host the Breakfast show with him. Perfect environment for her/massive and mature audience. I cannot be arsed to post all the links so just search on YouTube "Mariah Carey and Jamie Theakston". You will see the Mariah I have been screaming to come back for years. I know she is still in there. The Allure video alludes to it. (See what I did there?)

Janet (82,350) by Andrew from UK
It is a frickin joke that Mariah is going to receive this after Jennifer Lopez and Janet Jackson. Awards like this should have a defined criteria for who receives it or else it is rather meaningless. Janet Jackson had never been that popular outside of the United States. She has never been very commercially accessible. She is not making any headlines. It feels meaningless. That Jennier Lopez received it before Celine Dion is a piss-take. I hope Mariah Carey wins it next year. And goes bowling when the show is on.

Re: Meet and Greet - wait 2 hours for 20 seconds (82,327) (82,332) by Andrew from UK
I suggested a lottery. What a gesture of goodwill that it would be. Mariah should have an app that tracks her tours, sells tickets and merchandise, links to YouTube and so on. In addition to an actual licensed MC app the gesture of meeting her for free in a draw would be such a positive PR move. I would do it like this: apply one hour before the show start-time with your ticket number and get the result 30 minutes before. Approach them and be wined and dined. What a great PR move. What a great inclusive move for the lambs. "No proper shoes upon my feet, sometimes I couldnt even eat." Have you forgotten yourself, Mariah? I really should be your manager. But it's not about ideas, it's all about the Benjamins. N'est-ce pas?

Re: Meet and Greet questions (82,303) (82,314) by Andrew from UK
A $1000 for a [censored] photo? I don't care who you are or think you are: if you pull shit like this to suckers who are desperate to meet you, you have your hand in exploitation and you are mired in shame. People considering spending this should spend the money on a Summer vacation and create some worthwhile memories - not piss it up a wall for 20 seconds with someone so contemptuous of your love she puts a price on you telling her about it.

Accelerate (82,313) by Andrew from UK
Watch the promo video and you'll wonder why it's not called "Ejaculate". Christina thinks she is an "artist" and everyone should give a shit about how deep and experimental she is. Which people would - were her albums since Stripped not complete and utter clunky bollocks. "X-tina"? Reads like an anti-drugs campaign. Say no to X-tal meth, kids.

The endgame (82,298) by Andrew from UK
A final album called "Polarity" followed by a US tour of the album in every major city. Rest. Then a final international tour, every continent over two years. Finish at the O2 in London, of course. Then a Greatest Hits show, called "Songbird Supreme", in residency. But somewhere more intimate and classy and in NYC so she can live at home, like the Beacon. Book it for 3 years, 4 shows a week, converting to Christmas shows in the Decembers. Then bow out. Put on the Broadway musical workshopped and already performed off-Broadway, written with Mark Shaiman, during the residency in NYC. Not a Mariah musical but something new and original with a book by someone creative, a la Dear Evan Hansen or Everybody's Talking About Jamie. Transfer it to the West End. Receive flowers opening night with standing ovation and finally be satisfied with the global respect for writing abilities. Then... that's it. Job done. Retire. Write memoirs. Tour the book. Have a nice life. Legend saved.

To lose $500 to someone to someone with $500m in 500 seconds. Or otherwise knows as "the most expensive selfie ever". However, I am sure it will be good.

Article: Mariah Carey is grateful for support (82,283) by Andrew from UK
This photo should have been the No.1's to Infinity cover. She looks amazing. Finally a neck with no bling around it. It really does age her.

Re: Album? What album? (82,281) (82,282) by Andrew from UK
So people are pissed off if Mariah is choosing money over artistry by touring and not releasing a new record, and now RocNation is becoming a target for apparently "forcing" her to tour so they can make money? This is absurd. Mariah is likely touring to make herself as much money as possible before her career ends. From Stella's own foghorn she said she was hired to make Mariah money. If Mariah wanted to release an album and then tour in support of it she would simply do so. I personally think they understand a Greatest Hits set will sell more than a tour in support of an album nobody is convinced could sell well so they are going with that. It's frustrating for fans because it has become tedious to watch her stand still on stand on and lip-sync to the same old shite. But everyone should look at it this way: it stops her from making any more Christmas movies. Every cloud...

Re: Butterfly Beyond? (60,618) (82,247) by Andrew from UK
So two years ago I posted this: "It occurred to me that it might be a cool idea, twenty years after it was released, to do a Butterfly sequel to signify that the journey started in '97 has come to some sort of resolution. 'Butterfly Relanded' maybe. 'The Return of the Butterfly'." So if the album gets named "The Butterfly Returns" I am calling it that I named it.

The Polarity Tour (82,197) by Andrew from UK
Bored. Hungover. So here is my list of the tour Mariah should be putting on - songs which are not her standard tour fayre, songs that would remind people of her deep and overwhelming back catalogue and songs that she could probably sing live (and for which I would forgive the odd lipsync).

Act one
Cry.
It's Like That
Honey (So So Def)
My All/Stay A While
Underneath the Stars
#Beautiful

Act two
Migrate (SHBAS)
Bringing on the Heartbreak
You Dont Know What To Do
Say Something
Triumphant
Close My Eyes

Act three
Cruise Control
Get Your Number
Languishing
Open Arms
Make It Happen
Almost Home

Encore
Never Too Far/Hero

"Called each other nicknames like SugarPlum and PooBear." A deep-into-Charmbracelet-era quote there. (IKR? the "Mariah hater" knowing Mariah shit. Whodda thunk it?) I haven't seen a picture of this PooBear guy but I bet you I could blind draw a pretty precise one. Same shit, different era?
