Almost Home (56,049)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

|
|
The song is gorgeous. Everything from the music, to the vocals, the production and the video was perfect. Also it had such a haunting sound to it, the chorus gives me shivers even now. The verses are dark and moody and then the chorus just lifts your spirit and lightens everything up. It's hands down one of Mariah's best and underrated songs. I believe the song was wasted on the soundtrack. From what I heard, it was played at the end of the movie when people already start leaving. They didn't give it enough promo. Lana Del Rey's "Once upon a dream" for Maleficent was also used during the ending credits, but the song still got a lot of publicity because it was used in the promos. "Almost Home" could also have been a bigger hit had it been promoted more. I wish it was in one of her albums. I love how the video is so simplistic yet gorgeous. I have no doubt about Mariah's writing ability but I do feel sad that she is releasing half baked products, when really this is the prime time when she should be releasing quality music to shut the haters up. I don't mind rapper heavy songs coming from Mariah, I also don't mind Mariah being hood. I love "Li'l Love" and SIO. What I don't like is how her recent songs sound so unpolished and half done, when really she can come up with such beautiful songs. I don't know if she is feeling uninspired or what but if that's the case she can always take her time and release things when she is inspired instead of releasing songs that are sub par according to her standards and getting slammed for it.

What "Will" Mariah do? (56,036)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So Mariah shared this picture of her with Will Smith, from the 80s, before she became famous. I wonder why? I am not being mysterious, I am really wondering why, so any answers/explanations are welcome.

Why You Mad (Infinity Remix) (56,030)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So I took my time and listened to this song a lot of times because I wanted to hear what MC heard in it to think it was a good remix. Now while on first listen I was like "oh hell no", this song is a disaster, after listening to it multiple times, I think it can be saved. But like I said, a lot of it needs to be tweaked. I think they should drop TI. I love TI but really he is adding nothing to this song. I'd like French to be pushed to the last verse. I would actually like French out of the song completely but since he was the first to collaborate, I think that won't happen. The song should start with a Mariah verse. Then chorus, Justin, chorus, Mariah and then French, then the ending chorus. Various voices should be made a little more prominent because I feel like the music is overshadowing Mariah's voice. I love her urban remixes, I also don't mind her using a lot of rappers in a song, but the song needs to flow well. This song didn't flow well for me. So with a few more tweaks, it can be saved. I wonder why we don't hear anything more about the song from MC or French. Did they decide not to release it or are they tweaking it? Now would have been a good time to release if they do, because Justin's fans are hungry for any release he makes and once his own song comes out in a few days, no one will care about this. We need all the fandoms of the collaborators to get a hit.

Re: Rolling Stone/Telegraph "greatest" lists (56,010) (56,013)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

I also heard about it and it is absolutely disgusting. Who makes these lists? Mariah's achievements are far bigger than what the people named on that list. I am shocked honestly. This is a new low. Mariah may not be at the top now, but if one looks at her overall career, she has made a bigger impact than anyone on that list. She has influenced both singing and songwriting. What nonsense is this.

Re: Stolen idea, depends how you look at it (55,970) (55,971)

Your post is indeed good, but I just wanted to leave a possible scenario that came to my mind after I read your post. Although I agree that Mariah shouldn't abandon her plans if someone else does it before her, however, if her plan was to drop a surprise album and Beyonce beat her to it, Mariah was better off not trying to follow up to that. We can't argue that in current music scene Beyonce gets more exposure than Mariah and Beyonce has a bigger fan base currently. (Mariah is definitely superior to Bey in overall success, but I am talking about current situation.) When Beyonce dropped this album, the world almost stopped haha and everyone went crazy to buy it. Even casual listeners. That combined with no streaming and all made it mandatory for people to buy it if they wanted a taste of it. It was the most talked about album that year and sold millions. If Mariah pulled this stunt after Beyonce, she would have been ridiculed to the extreme since the sales would have been much lower (being realistic). They would start drawing comparisons, ridiculing her and what not, so I am glad she didn't do it after Beyonce. Doing it before would have been different because it wouldn't draw comparisons. As for Taylor, I don't think Mariah was concerned with Taylor. Taylor's album came later and Taylor didn't do any of the "demo release" things.

It can't be Taylor, since Taylor's album came way after Mariah's. Plus as far as I know Taylor didn't use any of her previous demos for this album or if she did it wasn't publicized so I don't think it's her.

Can't Take That Away, After Tonight, There For Me (55,933)

What do these songs have in common apart from Mariah? Since this isn't an instant interactive site, I'll answer it for you: Diane Warren. Guess who is working with Mariah again according to this weet? I am excited. I love these 3 songs. It has been long overdue, this collaboration I mean. Our girl is busy in the studio.

Side Effects / B (55,932)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Oh Lord, I'm so ashamed to have forgotten about "Side Effects" as a single. That song is everything. I love the dark moody Mariah, I love her verses. The lyrics combined with the singing style is perfection. There is literally nothing that could improve the song any further because all areas were already perfected. This song would have made a very interesting single and since she is very descriptive in her lyrics, coming up with the visuals would have been very easy just like "Betcha Gonna Know". "I'm that chick" would also make a good single. I'm not a big fan of the song, but I do reach for it now and then because I sometimes get the urge to listen to it. E=MC2 is actually an album full of songs that can be singles, yet they chose the wrong ones. I get goosebumps at the thought of the hits Mariah could have collected from that album. Side note, Mariah call me (for singles recommendations).

Re: Stolen ideas (55,931)

I always thought that she meant Beyonce. If we take into account the major mainstream successful albums released around the time Mariah was recording MIAM, 3 albums come to mind: "Bangerz", "Beyonce", "Prism". We can all safely rule out "Bangerz" unless Mariah initially had the idea of twerking on Robin Thicke at the VMAs haha. "Prism" was extremely successful, but M mentioned someone stole her "concept" along with "title" and something else. The only thing I can think of regarding "Prism" is maybe at most Mariah wanted an Egyptian themed video? While that may sound like something she would be interested in, I think she meant some stole the concept of the album as a whole, not just a video. So that leaves us only with "Beyonce". It was the only album that had a twist, being labelled a "visual album" with somewhat of a running storyline spanning the artist's lifetime or a fictional storyline. Also note how both albums have songs dedicated to the babies. Beyonce had "Blue", Mariah had "Supernatural" and in both songs, the kids were named as "featured artists". I don't think it has anything to do with JD, since he didn't make any music without Mariah during that time. This question is going directly into my list of questions I'd ask MC when we are hanging out together in the Moroccan room of her penthouse haha.

I'll be lovin' you long time (55,919)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
By the time this gem was released, E=MC2's chances were already dead. Releasing "Bye Bye" as the second single was stupid. They probably thought it would be "OSD part 2". Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love "Bye Bye" but it was not a good second single. It should have been released at the end of the era. And then Mariah eloped, cancelling all appearances. Any one with common sense would have released either "Migrate" or "IBLYLT" as the second/third singles to take full advantage of the huge success of TEOM and TMB. The video of IBLYLT is a hot video. Mariah looked hot, that gold lake scene is everything. It's probably the only video I'll excuse her "behind the scenes photo shoot" habit for music videos.

Stolen ideas (55,918)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Mariah must have mentioned that someone stole her ideas multiple times by now haha. Each interview she is like "I can't talk about my future projects or they will steal it." I really wonder who stole her idea. Our girl is not happy with him/her.

Mariah getting that teenage targetted promo (55,911)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Mariah's song with Justin was mentioned on "ClevverNews" today. This YouTube channel's target audience is basically the teens and young adults. So it's a good thing, but even they mentioned that even though they loved it, they thought there was a bit too much going on with it. Anyways any publicity is good. Shout out to Lee TS, notice how Mariah's name started popping up here and there after you and I started mentioning it on this board? Team Mariah doing their jobs right. Get that teenage promo.

The interview (55,887)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
When I posted the Israel interview, I was in a rush so I forgot to add some observations. I loved how Mariah navigated the interview, she kept it to the point, she showed her smart side (something she always downplays in interviews) and she was very professional. I loved how she handled the political question without hesitating for a second. She is an entertainer and she is going there as an entertainer. I admire how she didn't try to go into political discussions to show her intelligence like some entertainers do. She can have her opinions but it's great that she was clear that she is going there for her fans and is not concerned with politics. I also absolutely love the fact that she was talking about how she has 14 #1's as a producer and about her writing. People need to see that this woman did not just reach the top based on her voice (which undoubtedly is the best) and good looks, she is actually more than a singer or a celebrity. She has been in this business for a long time, it's time people see her more matured side and stop bashing her.

Here is Mariah's interview for Israel. This is actually one of her best interviews. She is so professional here and she straight up owned up to her legendary status, without sounding haughty. I loved it.

I absolutely love the remix of "The One" too. J.D. and Mariah are great with remixes (as well as originals of course). I feel like he really gets Mariah musically. I need more live performances of "The One" from Mariah. I hope that when she makes good on her promise about holding intimate concerts with only the fan favorites, "The One" is a part of it. I don't usually hear many people calling it a favorite so it might not be in the set list, but I would love it if she sings it live more.

Empire (55,869)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Mariah should not take her "Empire" appearance lightly. It should not be "just for laughs". This role is yet another huge opportunity to catapult her back to the top. Empire is one of the highest rated TV shows with a huge fan following and its soundtrack steadily remained in the top 3 on Billboard for a long time. She did say she wrote stuff for the show, so let's see. It better not be a sub par song. No celebrity of Mariah's level has made an appearance on the show yet. So she can take the opportunity and blow up the charts with this. (Yes cue to the trolls to come mock me for expecting a chart blasting song, but I believe in Mariah so you all can sit.) Timbaland is responsible for all the music in Empire and I would love for Mariah to work with him. He did great with Justin Timberlake. Mariah can either go with a new song (which I highly encourage) or she can do what Estelle did with "conqueror" and use one of her existing or rarely known songs (fan favorite maybe) and turn it into a duet with Jussie. I don't know if the fan favorite/existing song idea will work so the new song is her best bet. Lee is no fool so he'll get the best out of Mariah. Plus Mariah seems to listen to him. So here's hoping that Mariah's role in Empire is a major success.

I keep going back and forth between which rapper should be thrown out (haha). But yes one of them definitely needs to go and a Mariah verse (preferably the rap or "is it lack of ice") should be added. They also need to do something about the "infinity ee ee". Either layer it with the "ooh aahs" or replace it with the "ooh aahs".

The One (55,867)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
"The One" is one of my favorite Mariah songs, and I love her voice in it. I absolutely adore her live performance of this song on "Shining through the rain". If I am not mistaken, I think this was the performance where it looked like when she started with the whistles she was going to do it like the album version, so she started and immediately stopped for a second and instead went on and did a completely different whistle where she just let loose and went with the flow. I loved it. The performance of "Infinity" at "Michael and Kelly" reminds me of that performance of "The one" because in the Disneyland version of "infinity" Mariah does the usual high note and then just throws in a few more random new whistles, harmonizing with the beat. It's like she was feeling super confident and just went with the flow, whistling away.

Good Lord no, I hope it is definitely not for Empire. The soundtrack on Empire is always great and no way will people tolerate this on Empire. Plus if there are any collaborations on Empire, it's usually with Jussie, Bryshere, or Terrence if season 1 is any indication. This song would make absolutely no sense on Empire. So she can release this as a stand alone or for French's album or I don't know a DJ Suss One mix tape, but keep this away from Empire. This song is being generally panned by the lambs themselves, the GP will not be kind to Mariah with this song on Empire.

Licia, That "#Beautiful" Jeezy remix was perfection. "Your body so dope you should have been a dealer." I loved it. Jeezy, Mariah and Miguel sounded great together. Lol I laughed so loud when I read you pretend you pretend that the A$AP Rocky remix doesn't exist and I am completely with you. "I don't know her" moment for me. Anyways I don't know if you heard it but Mariah left a voice message and she played a snippet of another remix of "#Beautiful" that was supposed to be released but alas abandoned. It was going to be a re-sung dance remix and it was right along the lines of the "Dream lover", "Fantasy" dance remixes she did in the 90s with re-sung vocals. Really for me Mariah never lost the ability to do a great remix but I think with "Infinity" she missed the mark. Let's see how the finished version sounds and how they promote it. Regardless of how I feel about the song, if this does blow up the charts, I will be extremely happy for Mariah. Until then can I join you in your denial booth?

I see a lot of lambs around various boards disliking the song. One comment made me laugh out loud because of how the person described the ending. He/she said that the ending sounds like they all forgot their lines at a point and someone just pushed the stop button on the recording. I actually agree with the comment. It does sound like that. It was so abrupt.
