There's a big difference between letting your sensuality/sexuality exude naturally versus putting something on like a mask or a costume. You can feel when it is comfortable and when it isn't. Zero issue with anyone expressing their sensuality, skin or cleavage it isn't even a gender thing, but it does have to come from a genuine authentic place. That's what makes it "sexy". I think that's what most are getting at. What's genuine and authentic for some people doesn't feel nearly as natural for others.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey's bad weekend record sales (72,287) (72,301)

Yup. This is what I mean by manipulation tactics. Look, I'll always love Mariah and it has nothing to do with her status as an entertainer or the way she dresses or what is posted on her social media accounts. I'm not here for that stuff it's not real. I'm here for the humble creative spirit I know is underneath all of it. You'll just never convince me that a person who is happy on the inside feels the need to resort to this kind of stuff. She obviously feels the need to compete with the market at this level, I get it to a certain extent, but at what cost? That's what I'm saying. #1 records aren't the be all end all, and this stuff is clearly not helping her achieve that "hit" anyway. If anything it's turning people off. If she's just herself instead of trying so hard to "play the game" so to speak, the drama will die down and things will fall into place naturally.

You're welcome, Licia I also enjoy the Hermosa video. It is simple, nothing elaborate she's having fun, the scenery is pretty, and it captures a relaxed summer feeling and a few playful jokes in the song.

You're not the only one Licia. Generally, I buy Mariah's remixes. I love this one and I bought Hermosa Spanglish version (love that too), but I could not get into the other #Beauriful remix at all. Lol.

I like the chorus of I don't. Could do without the rap completely. Do I think the song is a masterpiece? Nope. It has some catchy parts, but definitely question our collective culture when a bunch of fabrication is helping the song move up on iTunes. I guess i'm old fashioned or something. Lol.

Re: Whose the liar: Mariah or James? (71,917) (71,919)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
| |

That's the thing though MimiL. Mariah wants the drama. She's feeding it. Doesn't mean every lyric in "I Don't" is actually truthfully about James and their relationship, what matters is that it looks like it is. Don't know about anyone else, but manipulation tactics do nothing to create investment and sure she has done it before... this one just feels different. I'm more interested in Mariah getting real, but it's her choice.

The way the song is being marketed is not my cup of tea. Never will be. There are other ways to promote. However, I look forward to hearing the full song Friday.

Mariah's World (71,544)

I've watched the episode trailers, but it's the first time since (literally) Vision Of Love that I have not been pulled in by a Mariah related television special. I love Mariah as an artist, I care about her as a person. I just can't invest in it.

Case and point. Love Ed. Who knows, Mariah may re-evaluate some things. Like Licia mentioned it's kind of a vicious cycle, the public has a certain perception of a stuck up diva, so Mariah expects the negitave responses and then feels super defensive. (Take recent Ryan Seacrest interview for example.) You can't expect people to drop the term reality show, so the diva thing is perpetuated the more she defends something.

Exactly Matty. 100% agree. The drama focus is not what the draw is, you don't need gimmicks for people to watch. Authenticity allows people to relate and ultimately choose to journey with you. Look at someone like Ed Sheeran. He is an artist I love as well, and with him, everything is as genuine as it gets. People want to know what the real deal is for people. Those who truly love Mariah aren't hung up on her current vocal ability. People just want a real look at what actually goes on. I have said MC has self-esteem issues and addiction issues (whether it be working too much or too many splashes). Doesn't mean she deserves to be talked about and treated like she's horrible. Life is messy. We haven't walked a mile in her shoes. Underneath any questionable behavior on the outside, is always the desire for connection and acceptance on the inside.

Hopefully. Mariah will get to a point where she chooses to hear the warning bells. I love her as an artist, you guys know I've been here for years, but some of you have serious blinders on. Someone who has faced their own stuff, is living authentically, and loves themselves unconditionally doesn't seek out love or validation from anywhere but inside. In many ways Mariah has not dealt with her wounds and is filling her life with distractions, so she can avoid the pain of really dealing. I don't judge where she's at, I have compassion for her. She's got self esteem issues, co-dependency issues and addiction issues. We all deal with these things in some form or another. Mariah is no different. Doesn't mean I have my head in the sand though. It may be a while before Mariah is ready for change.

Special K, really relate with your post a few pages ago. No, I don't resonate with everything Mariah does. I actually don't consider her life any of my business. If she wants to let her boobs fly, there's nothing I can do or say about it. It isn't what I would choose for myself, but I won't burn her at the stake either. It's wasted energy. Mariah has her issues just like anyone, but it requires looking a little deeper instead of constantly reaching for the torch and a match each time something happens in Mariahverse. Trying to keep it light here lol. Hope you have a great 2017. Nice to see you on the board.

I have followed George since Wham. And I am both thankful such a gift was expressed with the world and utterly heartbroken there will be no more new music. This is a huge loss to the music community, and people will soon become aware of his generosity too. If you don't know his work, I'd encourage you to spend some time with his catataloge. He is one of the most gifted muscians with a voice like velvet. So smooth. Graceful and profound at once. Incredible live. Really puts all the day to day drama in perspective. None of that matters. Bless you George, thank you for the music.

I hope everyone in the USA who celebrates Thanksgiving feels a connection with that gratitude. I also hope anyone who celebrates Christmas has a lovely one. If you don't take part in either holiday, shout out to you too. We might think we know what goes on for Mariah or Nick or anyone else who gets discussed here, based on what gets seen or camera, talked about in the media, or even the words that come directly from someone. There's always more going on for people than meets the eye, no matter what it looks like. Wishing everyone the best.

I don't really look at the publicity machine tactics as solely a Mariah issue. We make up society. We get to choose whether to engage or not in these types of games, and until we decide we've had enough of this kind of approach and look deeper, it's going to keep happening. We can't just sit and blame or judge the people who feel pressured to compete in the arena, or who feel there is something to gain out of it.

As usual, thank you so much for posting. I love it when she sings songs we don't get to hear very often. Plus, it's from the Butterfly album. I'd love to hear The Roof or Close My Eyes in concert again. I just watched a video of clips from Mexico and I thought she sounded good.
