About jaker20 from US: You Will Never Be MC

Grammy Album of the Year (90,314) by jaker20 from US
Is Caution in the conversation for Album of the Year? I think she should be. Sometimes the Grammys snubs hot artists of the moment, and kinder to legends.

Re: Mariah is hilarious (90,235) (90,246) by jaker20 from US
1 million likes. I wish these were actually convertible to streams or album sales lol. She's so funny.

Re: 13 weeks (90,227) (90,232) by jaker20 from US
Sadly OTR is guaranteed to take the record. It's already guaranteed to spend 14 to 15 weeks at number one at this point, and unless something blows up next week, then its over. And even then, OTR's lead is too big right now to be taken down and other songs aren't gaining enough points.

This new chart where streaming dominates the formula is making it normal for songs to spend 12 to 15 weeks at number one. Maybe something will show up next week, but I doubt it.

Mariah doing great in streaming era (90,198) by jaker20 from US
Rolling Stone has a new weekly chart of most streamed artists and Mariah is at number 241, higher than popular recent artists like Ava Max, Sia, Selena Gomez, and also Madonna and Whitney. She will probably be in this chart's top 3 around Christmas time.

Re: Who she'd rather? (90,104) (90,117) by jaker20 from US
Ariana. But honestly she probably won't do it. She can't even get Cardi.

Re: Charts (90,083) (90,094) by jaker20 from US
Mariah also did bundles, but managed to debut only at no.5. But I'm glad Mariah is still serving quality 30 years into her career. This is what I want Mariah to focus on, not the charts.

Charts (90,055) by jaker20 from US
How long can Mariah hold her chart records? One of Mariah's bragging rights is her chart run during her peak. It looks like Old Time Road is on its way to finally breaking One Sweet Day's record that was tied last year by Despacito. It's on its 12th week at no.1 and based purely on its gap and how big the song remains, this is bound to happen. I feel like there's literally 15-week number one songs every year that the chart records don't matter anymore.

In the end, her 18 number ones will most likely be her most enduring record, but that's not even a real record because the Beatles have 20. Also this week, Madonna is scoring another no.1 on the album charts. Can you believe that Madonna actually outlasted Mariah? Thoughts?

Re: Stella and company (89,975) (89,976) by jaker20 from US
That is so messy and embarrassing. I don't get why she would send embarrassing photos like that. Does she not know how technology works? If its on anybody's phone, even your phone, it will find its way out. She didn't even do her make up lol.

But honestly in this day and age, that is pretty tame and no one will care. Let this be a lesson for her though, hopefully she'll learn.

In the end, the public don't care. They see it and move on. If that's Mother Theresa then the people would be shocked. But come on, we've seen Mariah act like that on her videos and even on some photoshoots. So what's the big deal? My only regret is that he's not properly made up and the lighting was bad. But in the end, no one cares. She served a great album and hopefully the Grammys take notice and have a comeback narrative.

Re: Madonna & Maluma - MedellĂn (89,228) (89,234) by jaker20 from US
Madonna is always collaborating with someone new. I would like Mariah to collab with a country artist. Old Town Road is one of the hottest tracks I've heard in awhile, and hopefully Mariah can branch out to that genre too.

Mariah is thankfully well adjusted (89,220) by jaker20 from US
What's happening to Britney (God bless her and what she's going through) made me realize how surprisingly well adjusted Mariah is. For someone who has achieved so much fame and success, she still managed to be level headed, heading into the next phase of her life and career that she will be able to enjoy. All the love the tributes. Because many may have had great success but not many have been successful in enjoying it. If only all lambs can be like Mimi. I admit, sometimes I'm guilty too. But I do think it's time we mute the negative nancies here, because they will pull you into their mess and join in their misery. It's not always about being on top, but also enjoying what you have achieved, because in the end none of these matters but our health and happiness.

One of her most underrated songs, along with Underneath The Stars.

Re: How are singles chosen? (89,048) (89,064) by jaker20 from US
It is probably a combination of artist and label decision, as well as how fans has received the song.

Mariah followed a formula for a long time, which is first release an uptempo/upbeat, followed by a ballad, examples, Emotions/Can't Let Go, Dreamlover/Hero, Fantasy/OSD, Its Like That/WBT, and a few others.

But that's the same formula that betrayed her with Touch My Body/Bye Bye, when the second single should have been Migrate. By that time, the old formula was really tired.

Re: Mariah Carey taps Shawni for second "A No No" remix (89,053) (89,063) by jaker20 from US
Boring remix. Sounds like a 1999 remix. Just let it go, the song is over, the timing is over, the A No No boat has left long ago. No one cares. She's not creative anymore.

Re: Music (88,765) (88,771) by jaker20 from US
"is it 100% a hobby with no care of its success or failure or is it still business?" This is assuming artists make money from music which is no longer true, especially these days. Releasing new music keeps an artists' business current in the public eye, its merely promo for ancillary activities. For example, Katy Perry's Witness album flopped, but she toured for that album and that tour made her very rich. Using Paul McCartney again, he released an album barely anyone heard of, but the release of the album provided him opportunity to reboot his merchandise, do interviews, sell new vinyl materials. New music now is just a hook for other things. If Katy Perry didn't release an album, what would she tour "in support of the album" for? If Paul McCartney didn't release new music, the press won't pick up that his "catalog has been remastered, etc, etc". Some artists release new music just to promo some new merch. Look at the big picture. Besides, Mariah is an artist, I'm pretty sure she's got a vault full of unreleased materials she wants to record or use in some way.

Re: Why (88,752) (88,767) by jaker20 from US
I have never heard anyone refer to SZA as having invented R&B. She is only popular because of her collabs to big names, I like her but by herself she has plenty to prove. As for Mariah, I previously used Paul McCartney as example who is decades her senior. He still releases albums and gets good reviews. I know the industry and public is less accepting of females past their prime but she can replicate that career path she will be fine. Caution is a huge step up from MIAMTEC, it was not a disaster. With the help of critical push I'm dreaming of her getting a Grammy nom for it next year but I maybe asking for too much.

Re: Why (88,740) (88,754) by jaker20 from US
B, I guess when I meant collab, I meant songs where she relegates her role to a feature. This opens her world into different artists and be inspired and reach a new audience. Sure it's a massive downgrade but she is lending her name and she is getting updated. Honestly this is her only way into current music landscape again. But if she can break through with one hit she will open her discography to generation z who don't know her songs outside of Christmas. That is how she rebooted herself with I Know What You Want. Five years is a long time to be gone in mainstream, but 10 years since Obsessed, well that is basically retirement to some people. Many generation z don't even know her songs at all.

Re: Why (88,735) (88,739) by jaker20 from US
R&B like it use to will never be popular again. A version inspired by will only come back if fused with another genre. The whole industry is like that, it's not just R&B. As an artist, Mariah should be able to do that. That is why I have always said her only way forward is to collaborate. That's how artists learn and get inspired. With all her money, she should be working with new and inspired artists, support them, and with that she learns from them too. But she is surrounded by the same paycheck people who have no new ideas.

Also, this is somehow related to the streaming discussion. This is actually what streaming is about, taking control of your creative destiny and cutting the fat in your team. Streaming is a platform that brings artists directly to the listeners, no label executives in the middle who brings no artistry to the table. The hot artists now are everyday relatable people. That trend imo peaked with Adele and continued on with Halsey, Ariana, etc and it will not go back to how it was before. The diva worship is over. They are relegated to tribute shows.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,727) (88,731) by jaker20 from US
So what if Mariah's fanbase has dwindled. I really think she is just one streaming hit away for her discography getting rediscovered. She can make the most amazing album if no one is listening it won't matter. Thousands of streams is nothing if you think how many times I myself have listened to her cds when I used to buy them.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,707) (88,723) by jaker20 from US
You can support any artists any way you want. Sales and CD still count and going to her concert is probably the best way to support Mariah.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? Part 2 (88,718) (88,722) by jaker20 from US
I feel like I opened a can of worms:
1. No, you don't need a computer to stream. Majority of people stream on their phones and many other devices at many different places.
2. People stream for convenience. You get so many songs with you if you have a phone or any streaming devices. People don't get streaming subscription because they want songs to chart lol.
3. I don't know what the "tabs" mean. You don't need to open "tabs" on your computer browser to stream. Honestly I don't understand what that post was even about.
4. IP address post: No, each time you play a song, that counts as a stream each, hence if you play it 10 times, you streamed it 10 times.
5. To that one poster, I stream on my phone most of the time, I walk to work, on the bus, and at work. When I do drive it's in the car too. I like having any song I want when I work out too.
6. Speakers have no relationship with streaming. Indirect equivalence. My dad loves streaming because he can tell Alexa to play anything anywhere in the house and he's got great audio system connected anywhere in his house.
6. I stream a song many times because I love a song same not because I want an artist to chart. I'm speechless for that false equivalence. You know kind of like when you put a CD on repeat? The difference is that the likelihood of playing a song on repeat is higher on streaming because its with you all the time.
7. If you live in a remote country, you probably won't stream. I guess some licensing issues, or some artist don't open their songs to streaming services in some areas, I don't know.

Does anyone here even stream music? Part 2 (88,699) by jaker20 from US
Well then lambs' time to jump into streaming, Oh my gosh, now I know why Mariah is flopping. What you all waiting for? I introduced my dad to streaming last year and he never looked back. He is on it all the time, in the car, at home and everywhere. To someone who said it's not worth it, it is absolutely worth it. Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, for an average of $10 a month you get millions of songs at the palm of your hands. I still buy CD's and I'm thinking of getting into vinyl but I'm dirt poor right now. But downloads is over guys, it will be gone in a few years, mark my works. Streaming is essentially going to obliterate downloads since you can also download songs if you have streaming subscription.

If I was your neighbor I will set up your streaming service for you. You can do all that you mentioned x10. All these speculation of why Mariah isn't charting, and here I uncover the problem. If this reflects overall listening behavior of lambs then she really is in trouble. Her decline is so fast. This is probably why Mariah is still courting younger fans because she knows her future as an artist relies on them, because lambs can't stream lol. However great her music is, if no one's consuming it, its all for naught. Lambs, we need to get on with the times. Streaming is the future, you cannot stop it. You shoulda' known that it's bigger than you, No, no no, a no no. A bop.

Mariah (88,684) by jaker20 from US
I want MC to be more serious about her look and tone down the sexy. I like her look just before TEOM blew up especially the the interviews she did. But she reverted back to Glitter and Rainbow look during E=MC2 and she stayed there.

Mimi gave us a great album. I was worried for awhile because of MIAMTEC and now I really believe she's headed in the right direction. I know her next album will be even more inspired.
