I completely agree that the whole comparison came as a publicity ploy by her team and for sure it backfired somewhat. I did notice in the second album she tried songs very different from Mariah's (as opposed to the first album where she tried everything Mariah). The songs I heard didn't even feature the whistle note that she has been trying to sell (I didn't listen to all the songs). But my main point is that the media always comes up with Mariah comparisons just based on a person being able to hit a high note. They forget that Mariah wouldn't be the superstar she is today if she didn't have creative input in her career. She writes songs that touches people and to top it off she sings in a voice that mesmerizes people and these are some of the reasons she got so successful. MC isn't all about yelling at the top of her lungs putting a random whistle note just for the sake of it in a song (Ariana does that a lot, she screeches away and will insert a random whistle). Her arrangements are flawless. I heard that Ariana now specifically mentions that the media can't ask her about MC. Her albums do sell because she is "in" right now so it surprises me how she didn't manage to snag a #1 single yet. Nowadays it seems like even I can get a #1 single if I come up with song but back it up with a publicity stunt (and I will admit I am a horrible singer). Don't get me wrong I don't hate Ariana, she just tries to hard. There is nothing effortless about her.

The next Mariah (46,709)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Ariana taking Mariah's place, that part cracks me up big time. No one can be the next Mariah until they can sing like Mariah, no one can be the next Mariah until they can write songs like Mariah (even after 25 years) no one can be the next Mariah until they can produce songs like Mariah and no one can be the next Mariah until they are as effortlessly elegant and fabulous like Mariah. Summing it up, there will probably never be another Mariah Carey. People may surpass her record (because nowadays people can get #1s with gimmicks), people can get more famous than her, but nobody can come close to the "artist" that is Mariah Carey. She isn't just a singer. She is one of the best singers (even with her current imperfections), she is an outstanding song writer (who has the capability to write songs that sounds fresh and current every time without selling out to the current trend), and special shout out to her lyrics. Mariah is not just about singing high and hitting the whistle note here and there, she is a legend who has stood the test of time. Plus Ariana needs to really work on her enunciation, I can hardly understand what she sings most of the time because she is just yelling away at me. And no her age is no excuse, Mariah was singing flawlessly at that age, so if one wants to be the next Mariah, they should try to be everything Mariah Carey stands for. I still don't see four #1s from Ariana's debut album like Mariah had.

Thirsty (46,702)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

Thirsty may also be about Damizza. I will stick to the opinion that it's not about Nick. Every line in a song can't be taken literally. She probably said "Tom Fords" because that's the brand that came to her head or the other brands were not fitting well into the lyrics. Mariah is way above dissing her husband in an upbeat song like this. The others I will believe because they are emotional ballads.

I agree with Bill, Thirsty is definitely not about Nick. It might sound that way but Thirsty was not written this year. By the way a person who did change his name is Eminem. But if it was about him the other lines don't make sense because he is pretty popular and he doesn't wear Tom Fords. Some one posted that they think Mariah changed up a lot of the songs when she pushed back the album this year to include her feelings about the current situation. However Mariah stated clearly that she only added 3 songs. One is definitely Money (two dead giveaways about this is the fact that the song starts with "I can't leave it like this" and second she posted a picture with Fabolous during the time she supposedly recorded the 3 new songs). I don't understand why people think Money is about Nick. It's not a diss record, it's a song where the protagonist sings Money and all doesn't matter because at the end of the day she goes back to her love. Another new song might be Camouflage. This song sounds way to personal and heart wrenching for it to be anything but true feelings coming from Mariah. I am sure this is about Nick and their failing marriage. Faded is about Nick too but not necessarily about the divorce. She recorded it quite a while back and I think it was more about her feeling alone and abandoned by Nick since he was away working so much and she was alone with the kids.

I know. She looks so good. And the one with the "did my own makeup" caption is even cuter because she acknowledges her eyeliner was messy and it actually is messy which shows she is a bit more relaxed about looking perfect. In addition to that, in the same pic, she is looking at the camera with a huge smile on her face and it is so adorable, like a child's smile.

Did anyone see the pictures Mariah posted wearing the black dress? Girlfriend is looking gorgeous *said in a sing-song high pitched voice*. She looks like she lost weight and looks so beautiful and healthy. The other close up she posted of her face makes her look so fresh and beautiful. She looks like she is in her 30s. I am really happy to see her doing well and looking happy. 2015 will be Mariah's year.

Music video (46,635)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Random thought. So MC has done a song where she refers to her old songs (For the record) and she did a photoshoot where she recreated some of her old photoshoots (for Memoirs). Now I would love a music video of Mariah's where she would recreate moments from some of her iconic music videos (I'm thinking VOL, Heartbreaker, Honey, Breakdown, WBT, SIO, My All, ABMB).

If Mariah releases another album this year, I think I will die (ok, faint?) out of happiness. She has been in the studio. Good Lord what wouldn't I do to have some inside scoop on what MC's been working on. Content wise, Mariah has never (and I want to say "never" in all capital letters but webmaster won't allow it) disappointed us. So I can't wait for new songs. However there is a great chance she won't release anything at all this year, maybe a single at most to kick off the next era. Because I keep thinking she has something big planned for her 25th year.

Shelly (46,536)

Shelly, I agree with the post you wrote. It doesn't sound judgmental at all and I feel the same way. Mariah is undoubtedly a person with a great heart however somewhere along the lines I think she did get lost in her own world of blings and money and what not. I can't blame her, she's not the only celebrity to have done this and I probably would be lost in my own world if I was half as successful as her. But her image has become so bad, she needs a reality check. I like your idea about her visiting third world countries (I come from one too). I think it would really ground her. Angelina Jolie said something along the lines that she used to be bratty and not appreciate life as much until she visited some war torn countries and that changed her so much that she saw how small her problems were compared to the real world problems. Whenever I read comments beneath Mariah articles they are always so full of hate and negativity, it bothers me. It would be great if Mariah starts feeling comfortable with her age and size. I am not saying she should start wearing sweat pants, just saying that be comfortable being who she is. She is insecure about herself and I think like MJ she is scared of growing old so she refuses to let go of it. I am sorry, this is definitely not one of my good posts. I just rambled on a lot of random things. Basic point - I agree with your post.

Sorry I didn't make that line clear when I meant "out of her comfort zone". I meant like Mariah never does duets with female singers (except Whitney, which was way too long back). She includes female rappers but never a female singer. So that is what I meant, that I hope she comes out of it and records with a current female artist. I realized the mistake after posting it. But I agree with your points nonetheless.

Up Out My Face (46,514)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I know many fans hate this video, but I was watching it again today and honestly I don't mind it, it's actually fun to watch. While I will admit, they could have had a much better scenery/set, I enjoy it. Here's why: (1) It's one of those rare videos of Mariah where she is really animated. Like I know there are many where she dances around and all, but how much does it really happen nowadays? (2) Instead of trying to be the "always perfectly poised diva", MC goes on to poke fun at herself. Like the shot where when Nicki and MC try to break out of their doll boxes and Nicki comes out perfectly poised, but MC loses her balance and falls down. Also the part at the end where she is trying to pull that part popper type thing and confetti burst from two sides and she gets scared. I think both these shots were super cute and funny. (3) There is not a single shot of her lying down with her hair fanned around her face and the camera shooting from above (don't get me wrong, I think she looks extremely gorgeous from that angle but hello don't we already have WBT, DFAU, Obsessed, Li'l Love?). (4) She seems to be having a lot of fun instead of sitting in one place, staring at the camera trying to be sexy but coming off as uncomfortable. (5) MC is actually running around in the video, like I don't remember that happening very often.

The next album (46,512)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

So MC did mention she is "back in the studio" and we still don't know whether it is for a relaunch of Chanteuse or a new album. If it is a new album, I would love it if Mariah would do the following. 1) A cover of "You are not alone" by MJ. 2) Get out of her comfort zone and have atleast one duet with a current artist (Beyonce, Rihanna or Adele). I don't really care for a duet with Ariana, only because I want an artist with a style different from Mariah. (Yes Ariana is deviating from it, but still.) 3) An anthem with a strong social message. (She has many but a new one wouldn't hurt.) 4) A duet with Justin T, Usher or Chris Brown. 5) Give me one more MC-Jay Z moment. And probably also another with Drake. 6) For videos, hire Brett Ratner, Jake Nava and Paul Hunter. (I loved the over the top sets used by Nava in videos like SIO and GYT.) 7) Completely re-sung remixes. I would have loved another "Heartbreaker-IYSEBL" or "My All-Stay Awhile" or "TGIFY-MIL" type remixes but I know Billboard rules changed and she may not want to waste time recording remixes that will not help boost a single so a remix with re-sung vocals (keeping the song same yet changing the vocals) would be great. 9) Single release. Summer song (up beat), a mind range, followed by a classic over the top Mariah ballad. 10) Changed up versions for live performances. That's what I have thought of so far, may add a few more if I get more ideas.

Haha I laughed at the word "Mariahnoia". I get what you mean, we all can sit here and say MC should do this and that (which we do out of love because we want her to remain at top) but if Mariah every comes infront of me, I'll probably be a little "yes man (ok girl)" immediately. She has been such an influence in my life, I don't thik I will have the courage to say "Mariah you are doing this wrong" infront of her. Nevertheless, I hope if MC or her team does check out forums, she can look past the criticisms and see the suggestions we give here. Many people here have put down such great points and suggestions for MC, I am sure if implemented, they will be of great help to her. We all just have a common desire and that is for MC to always remain the queen, and to get back to the top to shut off all the people who have written her off. Yes, we react to it in different ways, but I believe we all really want the same for her.

Mariah's eyes on us (46,499)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So, I see that there has been times where things discussed on this board (or probably other Mariah fan boards also) are followed by Mariah. I mean either that or it's just a coincidence. I don't remember all the instances but one would be where a lot of us were complaining about Mariah talking non-sense during interviews and right after that there was an interview which showed MC being calm, composed and with a sprinkle of humor, just the way we wanted. Then there is now the influx of posts with fans sharing their dream set lists here and most of us want Mariah to deviate from the (more or less) same set list she has been performing for years, and now we see she is taking it seriously and asking fans to choose songs she hasn't performed live or rarely performed.

Mariah should do a cover of You Are Not Alone by MJ. The song is beautfiul. It's a lot like the pattern Mariah does with her ballads nowadays, starting slow and soft, and building it up to the point where the emotions are bursting out of the song. What wouldn't I give to have a proper duet of Mariah and Michael. But oh well now the cover will suffice.

The non-elusive chanteuse (46,434)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Mariah has been out and about in the open three days in a row starting on the 24th at Central Park. This is the most I have seen of her in years. She is basically being photographed every single day the last 3 days. And another common thing is in all these 3 days she has no makeup on, her hair is not done (she has the natural spiral curls and they are just tied loosely) and she is wearing slightly less comfortable clothes although the sky high heels remain intact (come on, you can't expect the woman to give up everything). She is probably trying to send a message that she is doing just fine.

Not only were the song choices on point, I liked the sequencing. Plus the list was fairly sized. I know a lot of us would love for Mariah to sing a lot of songs, but there are physical limitations. Some of the lists posted were really long. That would not be possible, and we all know Mariah has a condition where if she would try to sing too much, it would affect her voice. Plus it's not a one night gig, she'll be flying to several countries and have to do the same routine multiple times and that would really strain her voice. It's hard enough to do it, but its harder when one is singing Mariah songs.

Random thought (46,426)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So Mariah was spotted wearing a long red gown in France around June. This is around the time we were all jumping up and down thinking YDKWTD video was being shot. She had a white towel covering her chest, while she is entering a building. I wonder what was going on. If it was a random candid she obviously would not have a towel on her in public. It seemed more like she was either coming from or going to a shoot. I guess we won't really know now that it has been over 2 months.

Mariah not commenting (46,400)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I get angry when Mariah doesn't comment regarding her professional stuff like album and all, but I am actually fine with her not hitting back at people talking about her divorce. Hollywood is a bad place, they will put people on pedestals and then they will try to tear them down. It's better not to comment on the rumors about her personal life because it's nobody's business. I respect her for not going on throwing mud. Even Beyonce and Jay Z has been attacked with divorce rumors and the rumor mills went back and forth with "his fault her fault" situation. But they don't comment on it at all. What saddens me however is that I see many comments and gossip pages say it must be tough and exhausting to be married to Mariah Carey. That's sad, because we don't know her personally. We don't know how she is behind closed door when the makeup and the glamorous clothes and the big hair comes off. For all we know, she must be very normal and quiet and not demanding towards her family. I mean she may demand this and that at hotels, but she may be completely different with her family and close friends.

I said she is either all smiles because she is genuinely happy or a "little" out of it. I don't see what's so offensive about that. The "little out of it" part is because some people here were saying she might go back to the Glitter era (which I said earlier will not happen). And during that time she had huge smiles on her face but we now know she wasn't really stable at that time. Now by not stable I meant emotionally so please don't go like "are you calling Mariah mentally unstable" because no, that's not what I meant. Sometimes I feel even the tiniest observation draws out the claws of people. I don't expect Mariah to make any comment, especially on TMZ. This is not her job, it's her personal life and if she chooses to never talk about it, I am more than fine with it. She owes us no explanation as to what happened in her marriage. And to the other person who said Mariah looked really good, yes, she did. She looked fresh and much thinner. And the no entourage moment also took me by surprise. I hope she is happy, that's all that matters.

I was watching the VMAs and thinking how amazing it would have been if Mariah could have performed. She could have done a mash up of Thirsty-YDKWTD-Money. Beyonce did a 20 minutes performance singing each and every song from her album. I would have loved for Mariah to perform.
