About May from Denmark: Following MC music since day 1.

Times changed (50,077) by May from Denmark
Pitifully people care more about their idols having number ones and reaching top charts and selling out the most rather than quality. Any place you go you can read how teens fight against each other in a pit over which of their artists has done the "most". And to be honest, a lot of lambs don't stay back when defending Mariah it is usual to see her millions of albums, records and number ones. I always cared about quality, and sound quality (when the artist I like is working for a big label) has been top of my list. Mariah Carey "Rainbow" era sound quality in her studio music diminished and I recall it very well, it didn't have the same depth as when she was in Columbia but with her amazing voice and the great songwriting I could care less. The music quality was still the same and it's still. But I also feel that Mariah many times has played it safe when it comes to music, apart from adding rap/hip hop to her repertoire and in the mid 2000s trying out some 70s vibe her music hasn't changed too much. The only two songs that I would say shocked me when came out were "Touch my body" and "Obsessed", they seemed so different from anything she has done, crazy fun I must say.

MC1989 Because Kylie never had (50,076) by May from Denmark
She has never dissed Mariah, not even talked about her in a personal level or musical level. There is only a Q&A from an interview done in Japan in 1997 where after the round of personal questions she had to do a "ping pong" (answer with Love or Hate when listen to the word). When she was told "Mariah Carey" she chose "hate" after giving a thought. I'm pretty sure she choose it thinking musically, as Mariah Carey in that time used to do music that Kylie wasn't much into and didn't appeal her. I like Kylie Minogue a lot, she has been rowing the boat hard also since she was a child and her and Mariah are totally different. The singer is not one to diss people or trash talk, she is neither the scandalous type, in fact, the biggest "diss" she could ever say about another artist is about not having the courage that Lady Gaga has to dress up in her wacky way in the street, and then, that's an opinion not even a diss. Here is the video, as you can see, it is not a big deal. People just like to make a big deal out of it.

Key word Deedre aka MiTodoChop (50,044) by May from Denmark
While I don't agree with all the "spiritual" stuff (all that is bollocks for me haha) I think you hit the nail when you mentioned the word "auto-pilot". It is exactly how I felt when I saw MC performing this last time and the reason why she might have been off and late to her lip synch parts. It's as if her mind was somewhere else, as if she was there on auto-pilot physically but mentally she was just not there. Clearly she is going through things like you said that the general public doesn't know. I hope Mariah takes the time for herself, she clearly needs it. It's still missing months for Las Vegas, it's a good time to recover.

Cry song / Glitter times (50,005) by May from Denmark
I haven't seen that video before Lee, thanks. Cry is such a wonderful song, some of the songs in that album are real master pieces. Contains lots of her signature melodies, her unique style always shows. A shame such beautiful songs are like hidden for the general public now because the album fell in obscurity. It's like Glitter, just because it garnered bad fame due to the movie a lot of people don't even give the album a chance, I think Glitter was a phenomenal album, lots of danceable songs and up lifting beats, also a whole new theme for Mariah and in that era she looked her sexiest and probably her only "raunchiest" too (if we could put a name to it) with all the buttocks coming out of her shorts, the see-bit of boobie coming out of her crop tops and the super extra tight skimpy suits, sexy over the top poses and the tan lines (exclamations) I think it's the only time I've ever seen her so extroverted, and yet, she never got to the Rhianna or Miley raunchy level. Mariah needs to rediscover herself, find herself a new era, enjoy her age, her kids, find passion for her own music again and be the protagonist, I feel she gives too much space to others lately in her own songs. She needs one big collab/duo and the rest signature solo songs. I still feel Triumphant was a waste of a great song, the parts that she sings are so good, that song had potential.

Radhames thanks (50,004) by May from Denmark

Thank you very much for posting those videos. I was wondering when someone else was going to upload the rest of her catalog of the night. The sound was great, better than other clips out there so no worries about it. Now I understand what was that candy she ate in the middle of the "Shake it off" lyrics, before hitting "My All" she said she was having some medicine for her throat. It was obvious her voice was gone that night and cracked, her chest vocal was fine for some of the songs, she just couldn't go high and was somewhat off tune for some time, in almost all the lip synch parts she was late to pick up the lines that night. I don't know anymore what exactly is going on with her voice but I wished she would be publicly sincere about it. Sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. It's clear emotionally she is very hurt still, I guess doesn't help, the adlibs at times, the change of lyrics in some songs to fit her current mood, etc. give a lot of hints. Hopefully for the Vegas show her voice will be on point like in the NYC Beacon one. I agree with Shelly that her blue dress was very pretty, I liked the back of it. I loved very much the see-through black dress she had, she is looking very fit. Her "Make it happen" performance made me remember the 2009 Today Show one where her voice was also in that state, she avoided the power notes and let the choir take over. It didn't sound terrible tho, just not great. Bye Jamaica, moving on.

Andrew / mental issue (49,874) by May from Denmark
Thanks for clarifying Andrew, I thought you were meaning as she being cuckoo haha. I never saw her "wacko" act back then as a mental problem (be it truly mental or related to stress), I saw it as her being spontaneous and felt she was trying to be herself in front of the cameras, as before she was conducted all the time by Tomy Mottola (how to behave in interviews, what to say, how to dodge questions, to keep it "inside", etc). So it was fun. I think her cracking was evident because she was not the usual self she was showing us, she was more like hyper multi-dozens-revolutions-per-minute. She clearly was lacking sleep, being sleep deprive is practically like being drunk, then she collapsed. She admitted sleeping only as much as three hours per day in the Glitter era. But I agree with you that her diva act became too obvious. I felt she started having "airs of extreme grandeur" when she was selected for the VH1 Divas. At first I thought it was more than well deserved, but then the act went too far. She joked in the beginning but what it seemed as a joke became part of her. The lighting, the lounge couch on stage, the fixing of hair, make up, etc. when not even needed. I liked more when she came up with things like fun cartoons, ripping jeans for comfort, alter-egos, girlie girl stuff. The diva thing has not gone since many years.

Raphael (49,872) by May from Denmark
Awwie, I will still be on the look for it as I've never really heard any of the interviews with Wendy Williams. Mostly because I just don't like the way Wendy interviews people, she is always pushy, hides hate into jokes, etc. It's just plain awful. I guess it can't be avoided anymore haha. But Mariah sounded very sweet in that 2005 TEOM one, I liked how she called Wendy on the face on some stuff, she is very brave and honest when she wants to. Mariah can definitely defend herself pretty well.

Nathan's message (49,871) by May from Denmark
I'm not sure if he was referring as Mariah wanting to be the "old Mariah". I think he meant more like in the sense of wanting to sing for real again, quote: "I feel bad for her because I know what she can be, but she has to want to be that again." I felt he meant wanting to be there and wanting to be doing it. I have this impression that lately it's almost as if she doesn't want to be there. While for the Christmas Beacon she seemed to have given it all, probably was because of all the calls after that mediocre Tree Lighting performance. It's like if she is not poked about it, she doesn't do much effort. In Jamaica she even ate candy or something like that while performing "Shake it off", in the middle of the song, so part of the lyrics sounded all funny. Talking about the "Shake it off" performance, while I loved things about it she sounded as if she sang that song with anger, probably because the lyrics were heartfelt. Or is it only me who has this idea? Going back to topic, I think Nathan was honest and that is nice to see. He was decent in the way he delivered his message, it didn't sound as a negative judgement but more like an call of attention from a fellow professional who knows Mariah in the work environment personally. If Kelly Price wouldn't have been so awful in the way she expressed herself, perhaps more people would have paid attention to what she had to say. She is known as a mean person, so I can't take her seriously. Nathan is different.

Same interview (49,844) by May from Denmark
Sorry I posted two links to the same interview. Here I leave this little throwback with Wendy Williams to make it up. The interview was hilarious, Raphael was it really Charmbracelet? I can't find absolutely anything related to those days with Wendy except just stuff that Wendy spew here and there but not with Mariah.

Raphael / Marissa - Wendy interview (49,841) by May from Denmark
Hi guys, I was also wondering about it as I wanted to know and found a clip uploaded by a Wendy fan (don't laugh, she does seem to have such things). It's a radio interview, I don't think she did a tv one with Wendy. That's from 2005 and then there is another one from the TEOM era. I should really sit through the whole thing and listen, as soon as the 2005 one started I crackled lol "Mimi is in the building and you can tell by all the slaves running around doing stuff." Wow, what a way to start an interview. I don't think I ever listened to that one before. So thanks for the heads up Raphael.

Change can be good (49,785) by May from Denmark
Oh yes Mimi L., the main reason I still watch the Shake It Off video is because it's amazing, the colors, the make up the wardrobe and the effortlessly sexy Mariah. I love her whole image through this era, glamorous and sophisticated yet not over the top. I don't think Mariah has to fall in to the "let's make bad music while wearing this amazing McQueen" charade. She can still produce great music and ditch the diva act for a while. It might have worked for some time, but it's getting old. I enjoyed it in its time, when it was fresh and fun. Now it's just repetitive. I really loved that she introduced in her music back in TEOM all that disco/70s vibe and brought the big band in a much spectacular way than Christina Aguilera. I feel she can do this exact same thing with some real jazz and do something classy and effectively modern that a lot of people engage to. The world received to well the likes of Amy Winehouse and Adele music, I can see them perceptive to a modern jazzy/blues Mariah. I've got to say I loved when MC she did some house but pitifully all her house music was thrown into the remixes. Meteorite is by far one of my favs that she lately came up with.

Jamaica (49,687) by May from Denmark
There are a couple of things that I don't understand about the Jamaica shows. She obviously lip synch Fantasy and had troubles listening to the played recorded and the monitor. But she also had this problem in "TMB" and in "WBT" where she totally snapped. But VOL sounded great, I liked how she improvised things, how she made it more of a "let's enjoy the now", and it was clearly live. So why, if she sang so darling that song, couldn't she sing equally TMB, WBT and Fantasy? Why couldn't she just get rid of the pre-record and go full out live, her voice sounded good. I don't get it. About what I pointed before regarding her wardrobe, is not about the looks, I love when she wears mermaid gowns or short skirts, etc. But I feel that lately her wardrobe is giving her issues. She stopped the show from going on to fix her dress, again. It seems that the monitor plug bothers her a lot, she couldn't stop from picking her white dress when singing. The only thing I would really criticize her is the drinking part. I don't care how much she drinks, she could pass out for all I care in her garden, car, even the street. But on stage she should be solid rock lucid. Maybe the reason why she didn't stay up to the last bit of WTB is because she was feeling impulsive? I do feel, like another poster mentioned, that she will do great in Las Vegas because things will be prepared for her liking, for her voice and surely she will be for the rehearsals. I'm confident she will pick up again.

A couple of things (49,686) by May from Denmark

First I want to start by thanking Marissa for her post. It's so tiresome the "I'm true fan you all are not" attitude along with the shadings and indirects, I stopped reading those posts long ago because it's all about Mariah the untouchable goddess in the pedestal who is 100% perfect and unless you think alike and suck all Mariah toe nails then you are not a fan. Ridiculous. I think there can always be positive critics, calls of attention, suggestions, ideas of what could change, etc. There is always room for improvement. Regarding Andrew previous post, I agree with some stuff but on some I feel you were very harsh. I quote you "Mariah refusing to acknowledge her mental and vocal problems." What mental problems are you referring to? And I don't think she should retire but instead just snap and put some things together. I agree with the poster that says she has been having hits and misses. Her Rockefeller Christmas show was average to mediocre, truth to be told, but she picked up so well in her Christmas Beacon shows. Then she started the tour with the left foot but went on to finish it in a great note. She needs consistency. Regarding the social media, tabloids always disliked Mariah cause she never was truly scandalous. With the advent of the social media it just got easier to spread the "rumors" and lies and it made it easier to exaggerate or blow out of proportion things. The media don't portray her when she is strong.

I agree with Nikki (49,545) by May from Denmark
I also don't think Mariah was meant to lip synch that whole chunk of "Fantasy". All her other songs clearly show she was singing live and without no real problems. "We belong together" sounded really well. It is known that she will lip synch parts of "Fantasy", clearly that song has been a no-go for Mariah since a while, I don't understand why she can't record a new version for her current voice. I still found it painful to watch the clip, because it won't matter anymore if it's a real issue with the sound, people are already smacking her. I don't mind criticizing when is needed, but she sang well other songs in the show, so I definitely think what happened in Fantasy was not meant to be. Hopefully her Vegas show is going to have much better professionals. And I agree with the person who said her show looks "church budget", the choice of dresses were also poor for this show. I don't want full blown gimmicks on stage with tons of gymnastics and fireworks, but something a bit uplifting would go all the way.

Mariah on Ellen hilarious as always (49,238) by May from Denmark
I have to say I almost fell from my chair when I saw Mariah in the cleaning service dress, she looked fun, relaxed, having a great time but what made me die of laughter was the woman who said "I think it's Mariah. I saw her hair." Hahahahaha. Mariah's hair is iconic. I love every time she appears on Ellen, never a disappointment.

Haha nice try B (49,236) by May from Denmark
Thanks B, I already kinda found out. The Pearl had four shows while this one will have 11 runs on fixed days (for now) and if all goes as expected it will close with a couple more shows until July 26th. I was wondering what was the difference because I thought it in a span of like 2 years haha (something like living there), so I was confused. It's the first time I hear about it as I never followed any other artist before who has done a "residency" and since Mariah said that it was a new experience I imagined something else. All I can say is that now more than ever would love a DVD from this upcoming event, it's been a long while since the release of an official one.

Question (49,194) by May from Denmark
Could someone point the differences between her previous "The Pearl" Las Vegas and the now "Caesars Palace" Las Vegas residency? Mariah says "it's first time ever" and a whole "new thing", so I am somewhat clueless as to what it is going to differ from the last time she was in Las Vegas. I remember clips and such from her show in "The Pearl" and it looked well put together and the photos showing her costumes looked gorgeous and sweet. I would really like this time if a DVD of her Las Vegas show was made. Thanks.

How sad (49,144) by May from Denmark
Poor Mariah. The worst is stupid Nick Cannon will come out to the press when asked and he is going to reply something ridiculous as "I was just playing with what the media is saying about us, I have much love for Mariah", so he can wash his hands once more. Every time he does the same thing, but he doesn't care that it is Mariah who is taking the blows. He thinks he is funny, he is not. Who believes his excuses for being an a*sh*le anymore?

I Stay In Love clip, enwar00 (48,792) by May from Denmark
I love that video. It's one of my favorites on a "safe playlist" I made for my little daughter haha. What I liked about the video when it came out was that it somehow reminded me to Mariah in the "Breakdown" video. She looks fab with the feathers and in that burlesque kind of theme and I liked that the video had a small storyline. I enjoy it when her videos show a bit of script, as opposed to the very static "You are mine" which highly disappointed me, the only parts I liked were the bits of Mariah in the water as a mermaid (to my surprise those were the parts that she directed). I would love to see Mariah as a director again for a whole video, she co-directed some but I would love to see one fully from her own mind and perspective. I recall a nice interview about her experience directing "Fantasy" and up to this day is one of my fav videos. "I stay in love" was beautiful, her videos in that time were nicely produced.

More videos please (47,599) by May from Denmark
I'm appreciating a lot all the video posts and small sums of the late concerts. Because I have been very busy I lack the time to check anything in YouTube or even try to find the list of songs of concerts to see if there is any new song. So please keep it up, I'm sure there are other people like me right now who come to the site for fast updates and that is a great thing. Thanks for taking the time, I would love to see more incoming.

Marcel (47,543) by May from Denmark
Not having much time left I will keep it super small. I disagree with you on this, I quote you "I haven't heard any single performance in this last tour that has any improvement in her voice". There has been improvement, just need to hear the first full concert of this tour online and comparing it with the last one, big improvement. If you mean compared to Adventures Of Mimi and such, I think she is doing par or even better for some songs. And that is not really a bad thing.

Letting go, letting go (47,542) by May from Denmark
And you know how the song goes haha. Orkun, I think you missed the whole bunch of comments when Mariah started her tour back in those days. I myself speculated and juggled some ideas, from a cold, to deep emotional issue, to her throat being damaged and her nodules stuff. Everybody added a bit of something of what it could be for them but it was clear there were some pretty awful messages, lots of negativity running at times, discussions that escalated to bad places. I'm already done and done with the idea of a re-release and such for her late album, I think it was a great album with some superb songs, some that I probably don't really bother much listening to (I already gave my list and opinion on each song when it came out, as I purchased my favorite ones on iTunes). But I would like to leave that era behind, she is clearly singing better every time and surely she has new songs under her sleeve. At this moment, I much rather have new material. Her previous album could have done amazing with a refreshing video for either YDKWTD or Meteorite, but it didn't happen and for me it's already past. I still enjoy the songs and will always but I would like to move on from that point, much like with Glitter, which I truly loved, from the photos, her sexyness, the danceable and uplifting songs to the sweet ballads, everything. I still love it and all but when it hit rock bottom that time as well, the best was to move on. Her come back was big, no doubt she could have it all again.

On the same boat Marissa (47,540) by May from Denmark
I have very little time today but I definitely will spend it writing this tiny post (holidays have been over, business is back). I've been reading the site, still haven't keep up with everything. I've been loving MC last videos, the very last one with the fan wow. I don't know how the girl kept it together, I would have fainted of excitement. I agree with you Marissa that her whistle register has always been there, pretty much was the sure thing she has always hit on stage, which I like every single time but I don't feel "that's what makes Mariah" for me, personally it has always been the powerful notes, the amazing belting, the angelic baby voice, the energy with which she performs, the whistle for me it's just part of the amazing combo. But I understand when you talk about her "full voice" kind of thing. But lately she has been singing so great, when she sang "Without you", one of my long time favorites, I almost died, it sounded so good. I'm very glad everything is working for her, so in the end, yes, this tour might end up in high notes, making it maybe more plausible the idea of an UK tour. I'm still hoping that such a thing will happen. I'm not concerned for tabloids because they are not my cup of tea but pretty sure they are more busy now with Renee Zellweger change of face, than anything positive about any celebrity.

ADAM (47,331) by May from Denmark
Do you really believe she doesn't know what is happening to her or how she is sounding? She obviously knows, then again wouldn't it be worst to just turn around and go back home instead of finishing the tour? I think that one thing is calling her out in a polite way and another very different is humiliating her like some people have been doing. The problem is that most of those who call her out are tabloids, and tabloids are a magnet for disgusting comments with their awful dramatic yellow titles.
