There are people who post here that I argue and disagree with. I respect their consistency and dedication. I, even, like the sport of it all. You have no history and your mission statement reads about 5 years outdated. I gave you a thumbs up myself, such is your need for them. Andrewjamesgold@gmail.com for my whatsapp. Go for it.

#Beautiful was too short and Mariah features as a guest on it. I would put it forward that it did not do well because of her, it did well because of Miguel. She even, incredulously, lipped on stage whilst he was singing live. She surely cannot take the credit for this song? The best track from MIAM was YDKWTD which was absolutely killer and beats Migrate to the top of the missed opportunities chart by a stretch. Meteorite was brilliant, as was Cry. (if you count out the painful straining). Camouflage was beautiful. The rest of the album sounds like rehashed versions of previous work and, thus, sounded pretty dated pretty quickly.

Celine is stellar in promotion, production and performance. I think it goes without saying that Mariah is lazy and doesn't really give much of a shit anymore - she hasn't for the best part of a decade now. Mariah postponing the Oz and NZ tour was a facepalm not-again-what's-wrong-with-you moment. And given that it's moved to October, if she were going to release an album this year with a lead first single to properly promote she has six months to write it, record it, produce it and plan and promote it. Which isn't going to happen. Mariah doesn't give much of a shit anymore so everyone ought to have really lowered their expectations by now and stop pissing their pants everytime Mariah says "I love my fans." Celine, as the example, loves her fans. Mariah did once, but seems to now tolerate them as a paycheck and to feed her vanity. No shade intended. Just a reality check. Enjoy the show though.

Jeff, I can't tell you the song because then I'm going to imagine you doing things by yourself to the song and then I won't ever be able to listen to the song, and, well, y'know, it's not an issue for a tissue. Ha it's actually in the previous message lower down. I'm just kidding. Hopefully.

Re: Best music video? (80,726) (80,737)

I sometimes find having to nominate your favourite anything in terms absolute quite a difficult thing and I think you hit the nail on the head almost. I have favourite movies/films. I have a favourite psychological thriller, a favourite comedy and so on (Silence of the Lambs and As Good As It Gets if you're interested lol). And so it has always been with Mariah, such is the amount of my life I have dedicated to her. I have a favourite ballad, a favourite uptempo, a favourite power vocal, a favourite sex song (yup, I've actually stopped sex and said "wait, listen to this bit"). I probably couldn't say there's one ultimate favourite because it depends what you are looking for at that specific time. And so it is with the videos. Agree with you that Touch My Body is the best video for comedy (actually its CTTA - but for different reasons lol). Would offer that Honey is the best for storyline, The Roof the best for making people pause during sex, ILT the best for sophistication and DFAU the best for Mariah looking like she could turn all the gay men across the kingdom straight. Well, it worked on Nick Cannon. Keep having babies, Nick. That'll make the urge go away.

Oh Randy Randy Randy. If you watch the CTTA live version at the Billboard Awards and other performances, the climax has a massive background chorus verse, also. Honestly, I don't see the problem with it. What you receive in a live performance might need to be a little bit more grandiose than on the CD (showing my age). As smoke and mirrors go, I don't think it's anything to worry about. In some cases, the CD versions might have actually benefitted from the later live additions. As long as what you can hear of her voice is coming out of her mouth, who cares? If I wanted to watch someone lip-sync I'd watch Drag Race. TTR is a very slow, plodding number. Anything to spice it up for live performance now gets my vote. And I'm still waiting on those flowers.

Most threads stem from Mariah-centric topics. And I was attempting to make a wider, more sweeping statement in light of the recent polemics from certain individuals on this board who scream racism, fascism and misogyny etc. at any given opportunity. This is all mostly directed at me, from their far-flung boring, hippy little squats in life (give it? then take it). However, I do have to side with them in this instance (I'm sure others are typing Mariah posts out about Migrate etc. right now, don't worry). The last post I made had two mild jokes censored - jokes far less offensive than other stuff I and other people have posted. I side with them, because, Eric: wagwan? Your "censorship" is as confusing to me as it is to my detractors. Joking that Mariah's breasts are "chest investments"? Go on, post it, and let's see if it receives ire and ignominy - I'm genuinely interested. Apparently people do have the right to not be offended, here. I am offended by some of the claptrap and outright untruths and propaganda some people post here. I don't cry over it, I argue it. What a sad little world it is when offence becomes outlawed. When humour becomes the subject of intense scrutiny and forbade. You are essentially stating that the status quo is a utopia for which we should all be grateful. I appreciated Edward's lamenting the loss of interesting topics and, essentially, spice. What do you want here? Because what you say and what you do, never quite marries up. In my favour. And not.

Hold the phone, Bill: as your great-grandfather was on the Titanic when it sank, Tijl isn't permitted to mock Celine Dion singing "a song about a sinking ship" and an apology is sought from him? I assume you have written strongly worded letters to James Cameron vilifying him for making profit from the death of people (nobody alive today ever met)? My great-grandfather was shot by a German - what should I tell people not to make comments about? Germans? That would only leave the French lol. Sometimes I despair at the world some people try to make us live in. You don't have the right to not be offended. Whoever says you do - and there's a lot of them on this board - is misinformed, especially if they think the world's population is binary and divided into "lovers" and "haters". Ahem. Think I've had some of Randy's splashes. I enjoy your posts usually, anyway.

Randy, I love you. Still in January and you've mentioned the TTR background singers. Bracing myself for Right To Dream February, and mentions of 11th grade English students writing about Mariah in March. Kidding. I do love you, however. Even though you don't call anymore. Or send me flowers. (Okay, you never sent me flowers, but I think maybe you should.)

You didn't insult anyone or anything. The usually level-headed Bill lapsed into a snowflake for a moment and tried to shame you with an argumentum ad absurdum by which someone doesn't like your opinion so extrapolates offence from it and tries to publicly shame you into an apology in order to get a quick "win". Like most of the snowflakes on here. Don't apologise or recognise their social justice warrior games. It drives them insane. (No fish were hurt in the writing of this message.)

CTTA Oprah (80,637)
by Andrew from UK

Before the mental thumbs down you all just gave my life sinks in, I will add that even though this isn't a good vocal performance, the very last "They can try, but they can't take that away from me" at 3:45 is so brilliantly sung and very genuine and moving I sing that one part to myself a few times a week walking down the street. So all hope isn't lost. If it's not that line, it's: "But victory or defeat, it's up to me to decide. But how can I expect to win, if I never try?" I sing that one line a lot. It's amazing. Both songs grate on me for different reasons, but songs can have snippets that mean something. Don't know if you guys have simple snippets that you sing to yourself in public to keep going. But they is mine.

Couldn't Give That Away (80,636)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Aside from being an unbelievably cheesy, schmaltzy, slow and agonising march toward death, CTTA has one of the worst promo videos ever filmed. So, Mariah's writing lyrics in a notepad. What is she writing in these books on these sofas? "I can't sing so good no more but I write songs. More on this in future videos, folks. Yes, that'll work. More writing lyrics. That's what they care about. That will make them lovvvvve meeeee." Then the treat of the slowmo lip syncing: lip-syncing so slow that Stephen Hawking could voice print the lyrics faster. And on that there lip-syncing, Mariah not daring to crease her face for one iddy biddy second is hilarious. Who knew Mariah was rehearsing for that Christmas Disaster Movie 15 years ago? The whole video is Mariah trying to be pretty but looking like she's been poppin' ("Heard you get it poppin', you get it poppin'"). Which leads into Mariah trying to make the cheapest, wouldn't-even-be-played-on-daytime-TV crappest video of that year into something worth watching, by moving like Stephen Hawking just found his balance again. When she goes "down" and squats I cried with tears of laughter and sadness at the same time. It's an incredible experience. But the worst thing of all: the condescending videos on the plasma screen. What in the world? Aww, some people not done had a good time? Shucks. What a load of patronising nonsense. But even worse: the lyrics are about being bullied - not being unhappy with your lot in life. Lance Armstrong had cancer? He wasn't bullied into having it. And, well, we all know what happened to him. The Williams sisters lived in Compton? Well they sure as shite don't live there anymore. Next on the list, someone has HIV and now talks about HIV to people who don't have HIV. Groundbreaking. And clearly sister-beating. And then sister-beating pointlessness 2.0: Shawn grew up with Allison and turned that negative energy into a law degree. (Totally without the financial and celebrity backing of his world famous, multi-millionaire aunt. Oh. No, wait...) The whole video is a frickin' embarrassment from start to finish and a testimony to what Mariah does when she has no guidance.

Love love love it. Love it. She could beat Celine in the day. Celine actually stated at one point (circa 96) that she couldn't do what Mariah Carey did. It's not only about the power. It's about the resonance. It's how it makes your skin tingle.

The Lambily braincell (80,546)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Who has the lambily braincell at the moment? Stop hogging it and give other lambs a go. It's not the picture itself that causes issues, it's the possibility that Mariah is about to embark on the same tired, worn-out routine that she has pulled for years, and the picture is a marker for this. "Is negativity going to help?" It's called criticism and it's used to point out where people are going wrong and try to steer them down the right path. The alternative is to do what the lambs do. Lamb Bible, Book of Mistakes: "Thou shalt stick thy fingers in thine ears, pretendeth everything is okay and praise the Lord, our Mimi. And upon everything going tits up, thou shalt decry Mimi a victim of other people. So says the word. And I shall send unto thee a prophet, Terna, who shall teach you exactly how deep you can get those fingers into those there ears. For being nuts is fine. As long as you believe. So says the word."

Studio pictures (80,511)
by Andrew from UK
| |

Hopefully someone at Roc Nation reads this messageboard to gauge public opinion of Mariah and her actions - it would be a naturally shrewd course of action. Were they to, they would see that Mariah needs some new ideas and PDQ. The protracted images of Mariah getting pissed in a studio and the sporadic dropping of hints and slow-reveals has flown past excessive and, frankly, just irritates the few remaining fans she has left who do not see it as exciting but merely as irritating, especially when dangling a carrot that oft doesn't drop - the insult to the injury. The picture is good for one thing - at least you can see Mariah Carey's face [censored].

Tanaka #metoo (80,489)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Tanaka and Mariah have been dating for a long time now. That everyone keeps slagging him off is really bizarre. What's your problem with him? You don't believe their relationship is real? So you are, in fact, saying that Mariah is abusing her position of power and money to use, or, rather, abuse someone physically and emotionally. Tanaka will surely be hashtagging "metoo" in the near future. Time's up, Mariah. Time's up.

Re: New album title (80,482) (80,488)
by Andrew from UK

Everyone bought Mariah during her prime including straight males. Everybody had Music Box, Daydream and even Butterfly. Thus, before Mariah begins to name an album, she should probably consider who she's writing it for and then make the name relevant to the theme. MIAM was so confusing and muddled that any title could have been slapped on it, which it, ostensibly, was. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel was not commercially viable musically and the title didn't really reflect the content at all. And sounded incredibly obnoxious. Again. Charmbracelet was a nonsensical gimmick. And, come on, how many straight guys can you hear saying "Mate, you have *got* to get the new Mariah album 'Charmbracelet'." Seriously, now.

New album title (80,470)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Mariah really should stop making self-referential album titles as it is really overplayed (Butterfly, Mimi, Imperfect Angel, The Elusive Chanteuse) or even trying to force through a story for it where none exists (I don't believe anybody used to call her Mimi on a regular basis, I absolutely would steak money on The Elusive Chanteuse being a something somebody maybe once said to her in passing - in a dream -, and, frankly, nobody saw her with a charmbracelet before or after that album's promotion). And obnoxious is definitely the right word for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel and Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse. What serious non-obsessed straight man is ever going to buy anything that's called anything like that? The Art of Letting Go sounded like a cool concept and was free of self-adulation or blue cheese. She should try down that route again. "The Balance of All Things"/"The Darkness and The Light" and so on.
