Not sure what to do (104,053)

Judging by that private concert in Qatar, I don't think anything has changed, but I would love to be proved wrong. I hope the first concert is just great. I'm still rooting for her.

These concerts are probably going to make us know that MC has her voice back or she will never get it back. It's hard to believe that her performance of The Distance on late night TV in 2019 was the last time she truly performed live without a pre-recorded track.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,039)
by Edward from USA

I concur. Making an album is cheap these days, especially since she writes her own songs. She doesn't really need a label, she could've sold those 50K units of Caution just by promoting it herself.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,036)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Surely by now the old girl could just finance the damn album herself. All this talk of her shopping around for a record deal is humiliating. She has the resources and star power to go it alone. All she ever does is complain about how such and such a single wasn't pushed, wrong song choices, was told to take songs off she liked, record company politics and blah blah blah. Put your money where your mouth is and go it alone. Tina Arena did so with her latest album because she was tired of the industry and being overlooked, despite being very talented. It did exceptionally well in Australia and was an excellent album too.

Mariah Carey's Christmas movie (104,032)

I think Mariah should do a proper Christmas movie with a great story, and a good script, and all the music from Merry Christmas 1 and 2 and some new fun ones. Kind of like Meryl Streep's Mama Mia, but Christmas themed. I think that's a good idea.

I think that only happens [once] in a lifetime. As much as I loved Whitney and like Celine, they couldn't quite get to me like Mariah did. While Whitney's voice was more powerful, Mariah's artistry was far superior and her voice more nuanced. Whitney would make any song presented to her sound as if she had written it. Mariah was more like a painter and decorative painter all in one. I don't remember anybody who could put together complicated background vocals like Mariah. Had social media been around back then, Mariah would've been twice bigger than Taylor [Swift.] I can't name a song by Taylor Swift, but the woman is a phenomenon.

Did you check out his brillant performance of Ego Talkin on Jimmy Kimmel this week? You got to YouTube his performance. Somebody has been truly studying Mariah Carey. I am not making it up either, Andy. He said it in his Apple Music interview discussing his EP Lost A Friend. His vocal technique and phrasing is just like MC. Also, Daley is back on tour in January.

I just hope she learned from last year. The first show is supposed to be an indication of what's to come, it should be just great. Artists tend to do well on the first few dates of their tours. Some of them sometimes get sick along the way, but everybody understands that.

Mariah, please be ready (103,995)
by Andrew from the UK

|

It's hard to find a comparator for a singer but when a tennis player has an injury they do not sign up for a circuit of Grand Slams and tournaments. When a rugby player has a pulled hamstring, they are taken out of the season. If you can't sing, don't get on stage - and charge money for it?
This sounds mean, maybe it is. And I think if people know what's going to happen and they buy tickets to it, then I'm all for that. But very majorly supportive of people like Adam who chooses not to buy high-price tickets to something very average. The Caution tour was Mariah's first tour in the UK I didn't attend since the Rainbow tour. Because I, likewise, didn't see the point. I'd rather spend the money on a vacation - which is what it costs now.
However, I think you're missing the crux. It isn't that Mariah isn't signing so much, it's that she doesn't move, she doesn't banter much, she doesn't do much of anything. I remember attending the Christmas show at the O2 not far from me: I could see she was reading an autocue of what to say. "I have my own reindeeeeer." That isn't just a loss of confidence, that's a loss of dignity, wouldn't you say?
When someone is asking Mariah to be prepared, it's a grave, grave state of affairs that this needs to be requested. But, I do hope she puts on a good show and doesn't fill YouTube with yet more toss.

I just found out this service is no longer available to make your own CD. The in store FYE kiosk service ended in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. I used this service to make my own CD to have a physical copy of downloaded music. I just don't like listening to or storing music on my phone or a computer. I guess I will be forced to now. Does anyone know of another website where I can make a CD and have it mailed to me?

7 songs one billion streams (103,902)
by Edward from USA

I hadn't really pay much attention, but Mariah really doesn't seem to care much about Daydream. She acts as if it doesn't exist. She very rarely even mentions it. Daydream is very special to me because it's the album that drew me back to her after listening to Open Arms. I think she got so invested in it that her losing all her Grammy nominations made her block it out.

No, just no she's over doing the Christmas thingy and it could easily backfire and have everyone tune out mentally on her Christmas offerings, including AIWFCIY. I sure hope she isn't cooking up another Christmas album. That would be overkill. The only thing Christmas themed I would want to hear from her is an official recording of "Away in a Manger" with Roe Roe and her own version of "Where are you Christmas". Mariah dear, absolutely no new Christmas albums for you.

On the subjects of tours (103,874)
by Edward from USA

Spanish, which is my first language, has a binary grammar gender system, differentiating masculine and feminine. Pronouns, nouns, articles and adjectives are all gendered and they have to agree in number and gender when you use them. The city government in Buenos Aires, the nation's capital, banned teachers from using any gender-neutral words during class and in communications with parents. The city's education minister said such language violated the rules of Spanish and stymied students' reading comprehension.
As a grown ass person, you can identify yourself as whatever you want, but leave children alone. Pushing gender ideology on children is criminal to me.

Yes, 100 thumbs up for this post. Absolutely on point.
For example, I liked the debut album from Sam Smith, but since I saw his latest "performance" on stage, it's hard for me to listen to his music. Madonna and Sam Smith are very vulgar and it's just annoying. They should tour together. Lol.
On a side note: Our ministery of education has forbidden the "gendern" for the elemantary schools. There is hope. I don't know how it's in English but in German it's just grammatically wrong with the gender thing and not needed at all.

Sam Smith has embarrassed himself with ridiculous and disgusting stage performances. I don't know anyone who wants to see an obese, sweaty, unattractive man on stage acting like it's daring - and not vulgar - to behave the way he does. It was daring 30 years ago, today it's just pathetic. Madonna take note.
The two of them trying to reclaim the word "vulgar" amplifies the patheticness of it all. They both look desperate and somewhat oblivious - a bit like Miley "Yeah we do what we want cos we, like, do what want" Cyrus. I don't know anybody - anybody - who does not think that Sam Smith and Madonna are desperate has-beens.
Mariah is often called a has-been but the Christmas defrost keeps her quite relevant. Whilst thinking on this I realise that Mariah x Christmas is something I should fully support. Thus I call again for a third Christmas album - perhaps a Christmas duets album.
As for his "gender identity" Sam Smith is free to declare what his pronouns are - just as Edward is free to declare that he is not going to use them when referencing him. Gender Theory like Race Theory can be used as attempts to control language, thus controlling education and the minds of the young. You are free to believe in it, just as most people, who refuse to flatly deny observable reality, will not.

Madonna is definitely out of touch with reality. She should have some respect for herself, her family and her legacy. I've always given her props for staying fit and giving her all in her concerts, but she's definitely in denial. You can be a woman or a man of a certain age and still have some class. As for Sam Smith, as much as I like his first two albums, he's turned into a clown. It is simply disgusting. This gender idiology crap has permeated into everything, it's ridiculous.

I just watched fan footage of Madonna at the Greenwich O2 with her "Celebration Tour". How obnoxious can you get? I know Madonna had made a career of carrying herself with a superior "smurf you" attitude - but that show is absolutely monolithic in its pretentiousness.
I love Ray of Light, Confessions on a Dancefloor, and many random singles from her - she can write a pop song. But she lacks any kind of class, regardless of how much of an English accent she tries to put on. I do not need to see a 60year old woman kissing someone on stage as if this makes her "daring".
Like Sam Smith, she's absolutely vulgar. At least Mariah had maintained a level of class (notwithstanding Stella-gate).

After she fired him as manager he did have some questionable things to say about her as a professional. Eluding that someone on her level should show up every time like a game day athlete. Ready to go. Around that time a member of Boys II Men also made comments about Mariah's lack of professionalism when it came to her career. I actually believe after almost 25 years she was so over it by 2014 and unmotivated. I think she was subconsciously trying to self sabotage the career she built so that she could have a break. The last break she had was in 2001, and it was a forced break. The self sabotage continued after JD when she fell into the arms of Stella. and the New Years Eve performance was almost the end all for her. Luckily she got her head on straight and signed with Jay Z and got Caution out in a professional (and on time) manner and hit #1 with AIWFCIY. I honestly don't think there is anything left for her to do and that might be showing up as a lack of drive or motivation. One more album is all I'm hoping for but I don't even think that will ever happen.

by Edward from USA

When Mariah listens to her managers, things usually go right but when she's too involved, all hell tend to break loose. I fell sorry for JD, it's a good thing he walked away and preserved their friendship. As Nick once said: "Mariah will always do Mariah." Other than Benny Medina who checked her, took control and had a successful run with her, the rest that followed weren't really managing her, since she was doing whatever the f she wanted. JD said it in an interview about his plans for MIAM but Mariah was reluctant to follow through. When shit hit the fan, the crazy lambs crucified him. And guess who wasn't there at the cross to comfort him, give him water and clean his wounds? Exactly, Virgin Mariah wasn't. Had Mariah not listened to JD when he told her to sing full voice for TEOM, that album would've been another whisper album like Charmbracelet.

Just flipping through my Mariah book looking at all of the managers MC has had in 30 years. The most shocking manager era was when JD became her manager. After 10 years later, I have questions for JD. What happened between you and MC that caused your management deal with MC to end?. Did you have a different direction for MIAM after the Walmart TAOLG leak? Did you ever suggest to MC that she retire in 2013 after the commercial failure of MIAM? What is the music industry saying about MC's lack of vocal ability now? What is your favorite MC collaboration? Finally, why did you allow MC to record I Don't and Save The Day?

What is wrong with Mariah? (103,738)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I agree. Mariah has been in control of her career since Butterfly. I have said this so many times, but I'll say it again: In an interview with Perez Hilton back in 2008, when there were rumors that Migrate would be the second single, he asked about it and Mariah quickly let him know that she knew what she was doing, that the second single would be a ballad. They really thought Bye Bye would be a smash. Some of these delulu should have hold Mariah accountable for her bad decisions and stop justifying shit.

What is wrong with Mariah? (103,734)

Just because you are tired doesn't mean [you] give a lazy performance to people who have paid money to see [you]. It's not as if she was in the midst of a long tour and made a special effort to perform at this wedding. Her last performance was months ago. Beyoncé just came off of a 50+ date tour in stadiums with an almost 3 hour high energy show and gave it every night. I'm sure there were nights when she didn't feel like it but still gave her all. We shouldn't blame jet lag because she should have gotten there early enough to get some rest and be prepared, knowing how long it takes to get over there. I'm confused as to why some fans lower to bar to the ground for Mariah when she is capable of so much more. She's only 54 and still young and beautiful in my eyes. She's not some frail old woman. She just doesn't try much anymore which is frustrating.
I hope she's able to muster up some energy and vocal stamina to get through this Christmas tour.
