AMA performance (107,466)

Oouufff Mariah on fire. She looked so beautiful. Hair, makeup, dress everything on point. She looks like a cross between Charmbracelet and TEOM Mariah. She looked so endearing standing there trying to give it her all, I got emotional seeing her. WBT will always be that girl, the moment the intro notes starts everyone loses their mind. It's great to see everyone having a good time and singing along with her. She said she did the DFAU intro as an homage to her 2005 AMAs performance and it sounded good tbh.

I love the OG DFAU and the remix. But I agree a mashup would be better if she is going that route.

This reminds me of Toni Braxton's remix performance of Unbreak My Heart remix, and also Mariah's own My All version at Diva's Live where she switched the end from ballad to upbeat, dance remix. That's what she should do with DFAU. Lambs don't seem to consider this song as one of her best, but I personally love it. But I would love a good twist.

So basically she did a mashup of the original with the Morales remix. Like she does a mash up for WBT with WBT desert storm remix during some performances. You can find the mashed up version on her Spotify, under the My All EP.

DFAU (107,439)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

It might be just DFAU so that she is able to put on a great performance about six minutes long ending with the Quentin Shelter remix. I am just hoping for a dance performance of DFAU. Someone enlightened me in my old age, the dance version of My All that MC performed on the VH1 Diva's special, was that a version she sang just for the special or is that one of the My All 12 inch remixes? I can't remember and my MC records are mixed in with my vinyl records scattered all around my apartment.

Mimi L. are you basing that off the promo Mariah posted featuring DFAU? Billboard and another site reported a medley - I think she'll definitely do a medley. She has so many songs to choose (based on her celebration tour) from it - could be really fun:
It's like that Shake it off We belong together Circles Your girl Don't forget about us Fly like a bird
Or as you said, maybe a mash up. I hope she gets creative.

So Mariah is performing DFAU at the AMAs. I absolutely love DFAU but I don't know if it was the best choice for the performance. I would have loved a medley instead. She has so many great songs in TEOM. I wonder if she'll mashup the original with the remix like she does with WBT. What are your thoughts?

I agree with this post. I only wish she'd just practice a bit more in rehearsals so that she isn't always looking at monitors or looking uncomfortable. Because she has the songs pre-recorded she should try and be more relaxed on stage. But maybe when we see on videos we over analyze because people who attended these shows say she had great stage presence and was engaging.

Robert Anthony, I think we are forgetting the live performances she was giving early last year. I made an effort not to see them because they made me uncomfortable. And if MC is one thing, she's self conscious and cares how she appears. I think she made a conscious decision after that that she'd rather fully lip and only look bad to the handful of us who notice rather than sound bad and off key to the entire world.
To the average listener, the vocals she's recorded for this year's live shows seem very much live. Do I wish she could still sing live? Yes I do. Am I going to renounce my lambily passport if she keeps lipping? Never in a million years.
I'm more interested in the music she releases to add to her catalog that I'll be listening to until I'm old and have no teeth. Will I care then whether she lipped or sang live 40 years ago in Beijing or Rio or Vegas? I think not. There are much bigger issues in the world to lose sleep over.

I read somewhere in a recent interview that MC's written a new song for MC30. I have a feeling it's going to be a collaboration. KC deserves a collaboration with her. Has anyone seen the new photoshoot going around in a white dress? Christmas albums usually get released early. We are about a month away I think from our Christmas treat.

So it looks like Mariah has confirmed she's working on new stuff but it won't be released until atleast next year but she said she's excited about it. She also said she has [written] a new Christmas song this year. I wonder if that'll be in any of the anniversary releases. There's speculation that Mariah might make an appearance on Sabrina's Christmas special.

Mariah at Rock in Rio (107,392)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

The monitor watching has been very visible recently. At first I was thinking how is she not confident about knowing the lyrics to her owns songs that she wrote herself and has been performing for years but you might be right, it may be because she is trying to see where she'll sing and where the background track plays. I think she can iron that out by just rehearsing more. I wonder what's stopping her.

I have to say her China and Brazil outfits have been much better than the Vegas ones. I wasn't crazy about the Rio Butterfly dress though. She has been looking great.
And yes, the monitor watching is extremely annoying. She won't let anyone take them away - she clearly needs them. Is she using it more for covers and songs she doesn't sing often or everything? Maybe the monitor tells her which lines to sing and which to mime? Remembering which line she has to actually sing has to be tricky. From the looks of it, she's lip syncing as much as Vegas. I'm sure she remembers the words to Always Be My Baby.

It was an awesome concert, and they say it was her biggest crowd ever. She looked amazing, and her vocals were on point. My only gripe was that it felt short, but I loved how she switched up the setlist a bit and still sang all our favorite songs. In São Paulo, after the show ended and the lights went out, she came back a few minutes later and sang IWKWLI barefoot, catching everyone off guard - even her crew. Some fans had already left and couldn't get back in. I wonder if she planned it or just changed her mind last minute.

Mariah not socialising with the industry (107,376)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

That is actually not true, there are many photos of Mariah with Diddy post the 90s. Especially around TEOM era they were photographed together a lot including him being on stage with her at one of the TAOM shows. She had also shared in The Meaning of Mariah how Tommy had racist comments about Diddy when Diddy was new and how she defended his artistry when she was asked about it during some kind of gathering. All this doesn't mean she knew what he did and turned a blind eye, she very well could have had a very different experience with him where he wouldn't dare mess with her during the 90s due to Tommy and him being new and after that she was a bigger star than him. So it could be due to her having a different sort of experience with him she didn't know but it's not true that she cut him off after the 90s. A quick Google search will show many photos.

Sabrina Carpenter Christmas (107,373)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Her team really put in the work this year, leading with getting her on the Eras tour which got the Swifties behind her. Right before that her 2 songs Nonsense and Feathers were somewhat popular. The Taylor endorsement helped. But she also put out some really catchy, easy to digest pop songs which had throwback good old pop days vibes and almost each song had those viral lyrics like "Espresso" with "I'm working late cause I'm a singer", then "please please please" with "I beg you don't embarrass me MF" which led to so many tiktok reels, and all her videos had very fun replay value. She also has her signature bombshell look down. She basically owned this year haha. I honestly only knew her in passing before she started on the Eras tour.

She didn't go to all maybe but she went to a bunch of Diddy parties including his famous "White Parties". But I'm guessing Diddy was different with Mariah because she was an established artist by then, he preyed on the up and coming.

Sabrina Carpenter Christmas (107,367)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Did you guys see the little teaser video Netflix posted about Sabrina's Christmas special? The video starts from her foot and she's dressed in a Mrs. Claus type outfit, and the camera pans upwards and reveals her face and she says, "Expecting someone else?" Kinda feels like she meant if we were expecting Mariah. And then under a comment about someone saying something about Mariah, Netflix replied with "imagine if they collaborate". Do you guys think Mariah may make a cameo? It'd be fun. Sabrina is fun and quirky and she basically owned this year with back to back bangers. Her song Nonsense reminds me a lot of Ariana-Mariah airy vocals love songs.

Let’s be respectful (107,272)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
This isn't directed at anyone in particular so please don't come at me, but let's all try to be respectful during this time. We can all sit and speculate and debate whether Mariah should try and mend her relationship with her brother or should not bother. I know we are all coming from a place of care and love for Mariah but it's not our place to say what she should do with her relationships. We don't have the full facts of what went on behind the scenes, we don't know how much it impacted Mariah, yes she talks about it in her memoirs but she also holds back so we might not have the whole picture. I understand the need to have family around especially when you have a loss as big as this but at the same time what if the family member is someone who causes you to lose your mental peace and well being? All of this to say, let's not fight amongst ourselves for something that's very personal to Mariah. Let us just hope she does what gives her peace and that she has the support she needs during this time of such tragic loss. She's had such a complicated relationship with her mother and sister it must be a lot of conflicting feelings she's going through right now. Let's give her the space to process those.

So sad to hear about this. Losing two immediate family members at the same time, Mariah must be going through hell right now. Mariah looks absolutely stunning in this new interview. She looks gorgeous although a little stiff but overall it was a good interview. The interviewer was respectful and did her research. The interviewer's energy got Mariah to relax which is nice. I think she saw us crying over her saying she will release an album "soon" lol so she said she won't use that word. She says she's working on new material but Mimi come on, by the time you will release it the "trend" will probably be backdated. Just give us what you did so far. She also said she's working on multiple projects , one of which maybe a musical. While I love that the woman's still working hard I wonder how this is impacting her focus on music.

Ballads don't chart anymore. You only named one artist, Adele, and she is a slight exception to the rule, but it's usually just her lead singles that are successful. Her follow up singles don't do much but she still quietly sells 30 million records. Other than Adele who else is charting with ballads? Everyone on the board always complains that she needs to do something new and work with new producers and now you are saying she should go back to only doing ballads. She never stopped doing ballads. Every time her labels try to launch her albums with ballads as lead singles they flop. [Through the rain], Your [sic] Mine, and [With you] are her signature ballad style and they flopped in the [States]. Also with Boys to Men [sic], [4 seasons of loneliness] was their lead single in 97. It went to number 1 after its second week and then disappeared. It was their last number one. All other follow up singles were ballads failed to hit number one. Their 2nd single peaked at number 7 and was their last top 10 hit. Those are facts. Portrait is another excellent example. Most people felt like it was out of place on Caution and didn't really care for it, but the Hopefull Child Remix is light years better and got a lot of love from the lambs.

I think that will depend on how MC16 fares. It would take something close to a miracle for it to be successful, even if it is a great album, which I have a feeling it will be.
She will keep dabbling in music, maybe not an entire album. And of course there's always the possibility of Under the Christmas Three, which might come when she's 60 now. Wow. That sounds surreal.

Yes definitely seems like it. At this point Mariah doesn't seem too inspired or enthusiastic about music and/or she doesn't seem too confident about the work she's done recently and hence not releasing it. She seems to have fully embraced relying on her Christmas and past catalogues by touring etc. I don't see the fire in her although I see glimpses when she's jumping on these remixes to stay relevant. But that won't do much if she doesn't manage her own promos properly. So yes unfortunately MC16 will probably be our last if we even get it .

Mariah looks great (107,050)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I don't think Mariah should have a makeup line. I'll tell you why, celebrity makeup lines are already oversaturated and people are sick of it. Plus to be successful in this saturated market you need to really set yourself apart, like Rare Beauty with its connection to promoting self.
Love and pledge to donate to mental health causes or like Fenty beauty that was one of the first brands to break the ceiling with shade range. These brands are also successful and will have longevity because their owners Riri and Selena invest a lot of themselves on promoting them. Mariah won't invest much in these in terms of money or time and she'll just slap her name on something and it'll flop and we'll never hear about it again. Her single MAC collab did really well (which btw call me delulu but I hope the OG MCA peeps remember I had made a case for it here and then bam Stella announced it a while later). But that was a one time.
Thing and MaC handled the promo. If MC were at all to enter the beauty world I'd say she should try skincare because she always said she has her own mixture and she looks 33. But hopefully it's not a JLo situation where it broke everyone out. I'd say Mariah should just steer clear of this and focus on music.

We are now in uncharted territory with MC's career. I am about ready to put my focus and attention on another female artist for awhile as we wait for this long over due MC16 album and Butterfly Lounge project. If it wasn't 6 years since Caution, I would not be so bitter right now because of no album news since April. Here's to Summer Walker and her music right now.
By the way, why doesn't MC have her own cosmetics brand and company? I feel that is a huge misstep in her career.

Tree Paine could probably bring 1990s Mariah Carey back. I wonder how much is she involved in Taylor's merchandise selling and promotion at tour venues and retailers. I just think MC needs a different manager because she has kind of let her business ventures and promotion take a back seat in the past 7 years. Just my opinion because I often pretend I am a music manager.
