Licia, honestly the only thing that comes to mind about the uproar about JD as manager is that people, without even realizing it, like to create drama. I view the whole thing pretty much the same. He's a good friend who loves and respect her, and will tell her things straight forwardly. People don't need to agree all the time to be genuinely good friends.

Straight up my favorite Janet record since The Velvet Rope. Well done Miss Janet. She's managed to recapture the classic sound she's known for with a freshness for 3015. There are some interesting twists musically. I love it when she offers socially reverent commentary.

Nice tribute to Daydream Edward. Your tape flipping excerpt made me laugh. I hated math in school, so I tried to make math assignments more tolerable by making sure Daydream was in my walkman.

I thought of you when Mariah posted about the 20th of Daydream, Stacey. Because you always say it's your favourite album. It's funny I was in highschool when Daydream came out, but I don't feel old. I just feel like a constantly evolving version of me. Lol.

Thanks Marcus. You brought up many things I was referencing. I totally get that not everyone is going to like Madonna. I haven't liked everything she's done either, but I'm in no place to judge her for anything. I do respect her for being true to herself despite what others think. I respect her as an artist, and for what she's brought to music. I'm not trying to convince anyone to like her. Lol. I don't even think she meant what she said about Mariah, but whatever lol. I do believe people evolve, and I would certainly hope people wouldn't hold me accountable today for ridiculous comments I made 20 years ago. I feel there's nothing constructive in hating on people. Period. We don't need to.

To me you can post whatever you want to post. We've always gotten along (at least to my mind). If the discussion of Madonna offended you, that wasn't my intention. I'm a very the glass is always half full type person. I'm optimistic and I see the gifts that people offer. Do you believe that things can change over time? Because that's really the only point I was making. Do you believe that things can be said and taken out of context? I do. Have you ever said something completely ridiculous and rebellious because you were pissed or because you wanted a reaction? To be dramatic? "No one would miss me if I died tomorrow." Maybe in your view I've already been dismissed as a "goat" for discussing "whitewash" as you have coined. All I can say is I'm L4L who enjoys Janet, Madonna, Beyonce, Celine, Whitney, Selena even Britney as well as many other artists.

Re: Mimi L / Mariah and Madonna (56,957) (56,958)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

Sorry about the typos in that last post. I should have proofread that a lot more carefully. Yikes. Lol. What I was trying to say was that I've always felt the comment made by Madonna back in the day was not actually about a grudge against Mariah but more about something her dad had said. I also agree with Bill in terms of what Mariah has said about Madonna. MC still struggles to this day about how people take whatever she says. That's part of why she's so guarded IMO. In 1995 Madonna had just come off her album "Bedtime Stories" which wasn't widely embraced by the public unless you were a fan. It had 3 radio singles "Secret", "Human Nature" and "Take A Bow" as well as a more obscure remix single "Bedtime Stores". But the album itself wasn't considered popular at the time for sure lol.

I have followed Madonna for years (not the way I have Mariah) Let's put it this way, I'm not on a Madonna board everyday lol but I do love her music, and she has had some incredible tours. I consider her a performance artist. I adore Mariah. She's my favorite vocalist. I love music obsessively so I love a lot of artists. I do remember Madonna saying some things early on, but you have to remember, Madonna can be extremely rebellious. Her dad was a big Mariah fan according to an interview she did. And she made a point of rebelling against anything her father liked. Lol. Today she's very close with her dad, and has talked very openly about how mean she was to him at one point and how she had a lot of growing up to do. In that sense I do feel the comment she made was taken out of context, because it was not even really about Mariah, but her early days. Being percieved as tough or "bitchy" is most often a protection device IMHO it doesn't make sense to hold people accountable for things that happened years ago. I don't expect Mariah and Madonna to become besties by any stretch, I just don't about taking a jab at her father. People evolve and change. Madonna is a lot more open an accepting of others then she was in think their personalities really mesh, but it doesn't mean they hate each other. In the video you posted today, MC was talking about Madonna when she said she wanted to be known as Mariah but someone else was already using one name. She even went on to say she didn't want to name the artist because people would assume she was trying to be mean, but that wasn't her intention. People just tend to glom on to drama or feuds or whatever.

Mimi L / Mariah and Madonna (56,944)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
| |

Mariah is my fave singer of all time. I consider myself a "Lamb" and have since I was a child. And I also love Madonna. Totally different artists, totally different ways of expressing themselves. You can't even compare them except the fact that they work in the same industry. I appreciate what you posted because for years I have known whatever tension there was there has been gone for a long time. I don't think fans should be made to feel as if they are being disloyal to Mariah for enjoying other artists too. Speaking for myself, it doesn't mean I love Mariah any less.

I agree Mimi L. I also feel JD is a genuine friend. Friendships can go through ebbs and flows, and being a friend does not always mean telling someone what they want to hear. A true friend can say things that are honest and maybe heard to hear, but the friendship isn't threatened. I'll just say I didn't feel any shade there, or any undertoned threat about future projects together. If anything I felt the exact opposite about the tweet. Isn't it interesting how the same exact thing can be interpreted different ways? I find the public in general read too much into what gets posted on social media. Not everything Mariah posts has hidden meaning, is manipulative or has some kind of nasty message behind it. Mariah is a very genuine person, she's just become more guarded and cautious.

Although I really don't follow coverage of Mariah's relationships, or go looking for info, James does seem quite sensitive, understated and secure in who he is. By that, I mean grounded with some life experience under his belt, which balances with Mariah's sensitivity and life cred. There have been many times where I've felt even the lambily doesn't quite grasp how sensitive she is. I wish them the best. Relationships can be challenging enough communicating etc as partners without the added pressure of celebrity. Beyond any relationship, I just want to see Mariah happy and confident within herself which is exactly what she has been radiating lately.

Yeah, tour books would be really cool. For me, the Butterfly tour especially since I absolutely adore that album. Every song on it has personal significance. When I bought my iPad I decided to have lyrics from Butterfly engraved on the back. (Apple does it for free.) I have all the promos from Merry Christmas except "Miss you most", so if I ever come across that - it would be cool. There's also a Mexican promo for Butterfly that has an acoustic version which is really pretty. I'd love that.

I still get chills everytime I listen to her vocals on this song. I was listening to it tonight, and I'm always struck by how much I love it. Although included on the Never Too Far/Hero single, to me its so reminiscent of the Daydream album and has such a spiritual significance (for me anyway.) I always feel moved after hearing it. Her voice is so beautiful.

I agree, B about feeling like an outsider. Growing up I felt like an outcast. It was Mariah's music and Mariah herself that gave so much comfort. The connection so strong in many songs like "Close my eyes" etc felt as though they were specifically for me.

I enjoyed reading this both for your humor, and for your transparency. Like you, I don't think there is a question I could pose, that wouldn't somehow seem small. If I could spend time with Mariah, I would thank her for her music, and give her a glimpse into the ways, her voice, her albums, and her outlook lifted me through some of my darkest times, made me feel like someone truly understands. Not only that, but given some of my deepest feelings and inspirations a voice. You're posting style actually reminds me a lot of Edward's in terms of frankness, humor and exaggeration. I would never say I idolize Mariah either. She's someone I love and respect. She's someone who has influenced and inspired me throughout my life, but we all make mistakes and miss the mark. There should be room for everybody to be heard here.

I was out shopping today, and was in a store playing a radio station. I had to smile when YME came on. This station was current, not one of those clear soft pop music stations. Nice to hear since the single and album get labelled a "flop" so much. I guess I'm an odd fan, I don't consider something a "flop" if it doesn't perform like MB or TEOM. I'm enjoying reading everyone's questions for Mariah.
