Leigh / worst songs (55,270)

Girl I didn't want to be the one to say it, but I wasn't exactly getting my life from this topic either (no shade to whoever started it). As much critism and negativity that runs rampid on here already, do we really need detailed analysis on why this or that song was so horrible? (Side note: I'm not referring to the people who just said they skip this or that song without bashing it. That's understandable.) I'd rather analyze and break down the genius of her best songs, but that's just me. Besides half of the songs mentioned are the reason I'm a fan, I'm up here like really? How could you possibly hate Cry, Faded, Candy Bling, Languishing, Underneath The Stars? *gasps for air* I could keep going but I won't. I agree we need more progressive, encouraging, beneficial topics. The state of Mariah is. Lets go

Mariah has a technically more impressive voice. Her range surpasses Whitney's. Mariah started experimenting with her voice to show her versatality as a vocalist. Whitney has a more expressive voice. I think the years or wear and tear have made Mariah's voice more expressive. The two greatest singers ever are Mariah and Whitney. It really is a matter of taste but I love them both.

I couldn't agree with you more and the "unknown" factor will always be that variable that will keep us guessing about what to expect next from her and her team. One huge unknown are the details of her current 2 years contract with Caesar's and exactly how much freedom she will have to be creative. Since her shows are yielding successful results, I doubt magament will allow her to change things up much. IMO, but depending on time constraints between this leg and February with the Beacon and the movie, I don't think it would be impossible to sneak in a new song or maybe a new cover without any publicity prior. Trying something out on that audience in Vegas is a great testing grounds again. IMO as I suggested in my earlier post thoughost, it has to be created and performed from MC's heart and soul. This is how all the other 18#'s came to be. Thanks for offering info that encourages new ideas.

Album and all (55,267)

With all the positive publicity Mariah is getting since the beginning of this year, it would be perfect if she secretly gets an album ready and schedule it for a January 2016 release. No need to talk about it before that. Just keep recording and mapping out a proper roll out, get the videos ready, the interviews booked and a possible "Making of the album" documentary along with a few magazine interviews. She should strike while the iron is hot. In this day and age people have a very short attention span. Bad publicity can be covered up with good publicity but it takes lesser time for the bad publicity to throw out the good publicity. So now that people are hating her less, praising her more, she should just take advantage of it. Waiting for a long time is less likely to work. Just saying. I don't know exactly how much pressure she will be under after Vegas because we don't have any clue about her upcoming projects apart from the movie. So if she can handle it, I think she should go for it. Plus I still believe Mariah kept some gems to herself from the MIAM recording sessions.

Mariah / Whitney (55,266)
by Billy from Greece

Here's a nice comment I found on YouTube that describes some of each of these legends' vocal qualities: "One of the primary differences between Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston vocally is that Mariah Carey operates on color, shape and texture while maintaining a more narrow window of volume, while Whitney Houston operated on dynamics with essentially two textures."

I think you are the one who needs to get off the computer and go get some air. It is not that serious. Lol. For once we are having a conversation without any arguments and most importantly we are laughing with each other. We aren't being disrespectful to Mariah or each other so I don't get what the issue is.

Asia / Boy (I Need You) (55,264)

Asia never lets any of their fave artists down, and Mariah is definitely one of them. I like Boy (I Need You). Not ashamed to say that. I get how it can be irritating to most, and it's far from Mariah's best vocal performance, but it's honestly a better song than most fans on this board give credit for. It's not the worst thing in the world. Plus, she looks sensational in the playful video.

I couldn't agree more. Of course we all have our favorite and least favorite MC songs. I don't hate any, as how this discussion started, it's just some songs are not really my taste, but I know others love them. It's not a given fact as to which songs are bad and which songs are good. It all comes down to personal preferences, I don't need to explain mine, because it doesn't change a thing.

Blah, blah, blah... seriously? (55,262)
by Leigh from USA

O.k. probably won't win Miss Congeniality for what follows, but seriously, what on earth are we discussing here? MC songs that were very popular with others but I don't like them at all with my supporting arguments? WTF. This sound like junior high debate. Besides the fact that some people need to get off their couch, open their front door and breathe. Compared to world hunger and peace or whether the arms embargo will be lifted from Iran [...] about my song preferences. I love MC's music, but shouldn't we be looking ahead and maybe provide support for success in the future? And I don't mean pointing out the obvious flaws (I am sure MC is aware) or "wish for collabs with others" like seen on other forums, but give honest, constructive input and just maybe someone might hear or read the info and put it to good use. Personally, I am not a bit concerned about MC because she will write and sing at least one more #1. And it won't matter how old she is, how much she weighs, her ethnicity, or what she looks like, as long as she writes and sings it from her heart and soul. That is how she created [...]. O.k. I'm done now.

Las Vegas residency (55,260)
by B from USA

#1's To Infinity has been succesful. This was a smart move career wise for Mariah. It's proving that she still has her voice and can still sing. The album sold well considering it's a reissues with only one song that you either love or hate. Mariah's career is actually in a up swing with the Christmas movie in the works, her upcoming seasonal Beacon shows, and the extension of her residency. Infinity recieved great reviews from critics.

Skipped 2 (55,259)

Memoirs except Obsessed, Candy Bling, Standing O, and Languishing. MIAMTEC: I don't skip them but these are my least favorite songs from the album: One More Try and Heavenly but both songs have redeeming qualities. I love The One. It's my favorite song from Charmbracelet. Did someone say Butterfly was their less favorite album? Butterfly has no bad songs. It's a classic. How could someone skip The Roof, Underneath The Stars, The Fourth Of July, Don't Forget About Us, and JTHYOA.

Enwar / another song that should have been trashed (55,257)
by Licia from USA

Noooooo. The One is better. Especially the remix despite how different her voice was. I like Boy, but no. Lol. I was so mad when they replaced The One as a single for Boy. CB is my favorite album and of all the songs that could have been singles Boy isn't one of them. Lol. I will admit to the remix of Boy being slightly better than the original version as Paul said. Did I Do That is another song that never should have been made. That song is horrible. I love the original song to the sample she used. Whatever they tried to do for Did I Do That didn't work. I'd rather listen to Infinity than that song. (We all know I hate that one lol.)

I actually love those songs and those are two of my most favorite on MOAIA, which is probably one of my favorite albums by her. If you could burn a hole in an Mp3 I would have, I ran that album into the ground. And of course it rose again because the material is so good to me. Still one of my faves. Those two songs both could've easily been #1's and can't nobody tell me nothin'.

"Boy (I Need You)" / "More Than Just Friends" and more (55,254)
by Billy from Greece

Wow, "Boy" has really gotten some hate here. It is by no means a favorite, but I like several elements of its production and vocal layering. One of these things though is not the chipmunk vocals. These for me almost ruin the song, though they are much worse on "You Got Me". Chipmunk vocals aside, I feel "Boy" is as uptempo as "Charmbracelet" would go and it is sequenced appropriately in the album. It was totally stupid though to choose it instead of "The One" as a single. The song that to me remains Mariah's most tuneless one is "More Than Just Friends". It has no clear melody, no specific hook, the lyrics are rather vapid and materialistic and generally does very little to me. "Up Out My Face" is miles superior to it. "X-Girlfriend" was never a favorite, nor was "To the Floor", though I do enjoy them in their context. "Just To Hold You Once Again" can sound very generic though the vocal and backgrounds after the bridge are sublime. "There's Got To Be a Way" is a cheese-fest, almost cringe-worthy lyrically. I just can't stand the "Heal the World" type of songs. Oh, and how could I forget? "Obsessed" gets me feeling mixed. One day I think it's a banger, next day it makes go blah. Finally, "I Stay In Love" is the most soulless ballad Mariah has ever recorded. It's dated, stiff and too hasty. However, I don't mind it within "E=MC2". On a final note, "Loverboy" may be a total mess but I love it with a passion. Amidst its absurdity, there's so much to get addicted to.

Mariah's fans (55,253)

We do have varying tastes lol. Paul you nearly killed me when you said Right To Dream is among her worst. That's my favorite song of all time. Lyrics are perfection and the voice was raw and unadorned. The Beautiful Ones is another fave of mine especially towards the end. MC has never drawn a song out damn near 7 minutes like that before and I love the outcome. I have to agree Boy I Need You is awful. Among my least favorites are: All In Your Mind (though the vocal is sick), To Be Around You, The Wind, Now That I Know, I've Been Thinking About You, Long Ago, Irresistable, Your Girl, I Wish You Knew, OOC, The Impossible, Dedicated.

Again Asia is not letting Mariah down. While the album has left the charts in the US and Europe, it's still doing very well in a number of Asian countries. Watching the Asian iTunes album charts showed me that the album is still very alive over there, in some countries it's even #1 at this very moment.

"The beautiful ones" and "Boy I need you" (55,251)
by Paul from Usa

I like both songs. Especially "The beautiful ones", the ending is amazing. All the rifts and vocal acrobats. One thing about it I dislike is Dru Hill's cameo. It doesn't sound like a duet, it sounds as if they worked separately on this song. I like "Boy (I need you)" but find the original is a little slow to be a jam. There is a remix who does it justice.

There's no bad Mariah songs actually. The worst songs by Mariah are always decent. But I really dislike You Got Me and Boy (I Need You). It's not that they're really bad or something, it's just that the chipmunks irked the hell outta me, plus the constant whispering. Whenever You Call is usually a skip in Butterfly. I almost always skip X-Girlfriend (the hook is damn catchy though).

Mariahs's Cribs episode (55,248)
by Chicago Lamb from USA

I just saw the movie "Amy". In it there are many candid moments of Amy's life caught on film. One clip shows Amy walking through her house giving a video tour acting sorta ditsy and even getting into her tub cracking jokes. Gotta think maybe she was poking fun at our girl, playfully of course. Great movie though, I highly recommend.

More love for "Boy (I Need You)" (55,247)
by Ardis Logic from Earth

Let's take a look at the video again please. I think it is really hot and exciting, with a lot going on. The story line is sexy. First of all, Mariah looks stunningly gorgeous. The scene in the beginning with the samurai dude flexing is really good. He is hot. (I am a female, but I can see if you are a straight male this would not really matter to you. ) This video is also way ahead of its time in the way that a little mini robot is assisting MC get dressed. I love the whole Asian theme. The orange boots are "super fly". Cameron's rap is not the best in the world, but it's definitely not as bad as others she had worked with. The little dancing "fairy girl" in the video is totally cute. I love the scene in the video when they are analyzing her voice. This video also features the return of "Ms. Bianca" that was hot. Then you have the whole action fighting scene with the samurai who is protecting Mariah from the other Asian stalker. I thought it was great back in the day, and now that I just watched it again I will have this awesome song in my head all day.

Throughout the years I have found that many fans don't like The Beautiful Ones. I'm very particular when it comes to remakes. If you try to take on another artist's song that was great already you better not mess it up. Lol. She did this song justice though. I didn't think it would work out as a group song, but they did great and made it their own. The Butterfly album is not high on my list, but that is my favorite song from that album.
