Remix video (88,753)
by RibbonB from USA

It's actually a little more interesting to watch than the original. It's hard to understand what Stefflon Don is saying though. Oh well, she just got two YouTube streams from me. I'm liking the new Missie track with Lizzo. I wonder if it will get airplay. I suspect, yes.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,723) (88,727)
by RibbonB from USA

Absolutely, but you were jokingly blaming it all on streaming or the lack thereof. Keep in mind that it takes a whole lot of streaming from a lot of people to impact charts and if Mimi has her base scattered, confused or worse, no longer interested, then she has a big problem. You can Google it, but it takes over 1,200 streams from a paid subscription to equal one album unit and over 3,000 streams from an ad supported service to equal one album unit, so you can't discount physical sales or download equivalent impact. It just highlights that her base has dwindled.

Billboard charting still counts radio, which Mimi can barely get new music airplay on, physical sales, which she gets a small fraction of what she used to and streaming, which is low by Drake standards. Mimi has to hit on all these bases she needs to find out where those fans are and what they want to consume. If she sold 200,000 physical copies, or equivalents her first week, she would've been sitting pretty, no matter the streaming part. Taylor Swift sold big with 1989, despite it not being available on Spotify. Yes streaming is the current wave, but other factors are still in play and Mariah hasn't addressed them.

Daniel Caesar is currently in cancellation, lol. I'm just being introduced to him. I only like three people in your list, so I would add Khalid and Ella Mai. Ella Mai tweeted recently that TEOM is one of her favorite records. Khalid has a cool voice and vibe.

I'm not sure what profession you have, but mine doesn't work well with listening to music, so there goes nine hours of my busy day. Shrug, but I'm obsessed with other artists, and Caution didn't grab my interest enough to listen to more than a few times.

Exactly. I have Sirius XM in my vehicle, and a lil Spotify membership, I even watch Mimi's Vevo videos on YouTube, so they count, lol. But miss girl must know that she's not my life, not my world, I'm limitless, along with my choices in music. Mariah is and will always be one of my faves though. I always check for her and wish her the best and yes I buy her CDs for the collection and reflection, but I have limited time to stream anybody.

Most of us employed people can't sit around streaming all day, let alone specifically stream Mimi music. Take it up with the music stealing millenials, since you want to stereotype. Seriously, all these YouTube/Twitter stans probably do more stanning than anything of value. Mariah has to learn to cater to all her fan base and particularly suss out the paying fans, no matter the format. And these legacy artists, on the cusp of baby boomers, gen x and y and whatever other groups will want to hit all those bases.

Memoirs sold 168,000 in its first week alone and is estimated one million sales word wide. It also has two charting singles, with Obsessed being in the top ten.

Ugh, that Jeezy Beautiful remix was abysmal. Beautiful was a song she should have let go the course, before interrupting it with a wack remix and a terrible live performance on BET, that and her video injury was the beginning of the downfall IMO. Mimi often does too much, too fast and things fall apart This time she may have tried to slow things down, but lost momentum with a Christmas tour immediately after release of new music. It's a good time to soon focus on just the lyrics, the voice, the Mariah.

Ugh, here's a nasty little story involving Packer, Brett Rather and an "actress", among others. Mimi sure involved herself with an unsavory bunch of snakes since her divorce. Eww. Hollyweird.

Here's a headline (88,625)
by RibbonB from USA

Carey chose Christmas coins over continuous Caution promotion. And that's ok, it is what it is. She just seems to be riding whichever wave comes her way, while creating a few ripples along the way. It will be interesting to see her next moves after Caution, will she ride it around the world and back, or just until she gets to the holiday wave once again come Autumn.

She is now, but she was married to him in the 90's. Here she is in an old comedy set. Her humor is so dry, but funny. I think she let him know her true feelings, and the rest is history. Check out some of her older routines, they are very funny.

Janet Jackson inductee HOF (88,563)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Congratulations to Janet, for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Janelle Monae will have the honors of conducting her. Janelle Monae will also have one of her songs from Dirty Computer on the new Is movie soundtrack. Music placement is everything. I adore her song I Like That and it should fit it very well with this movie theme. Get Out did wonders to cement Donald Glover's Redbone into the cultural landscape, let's hope Us does the same for Janelle's song. Mimi's music would do well if placed on Insecure on HBO. I would love if a Mariah episode could happen. Last year's Insecure/Coachella episode is already legendary.

Speaking of Slipping Away, Dave Hall the co-writer, was married to Wanda Sykes at that time. Maybe it was about his marital discord. Kidding, who knows? But his is a name we rarely hear these dsys, yet his accomplishments are impressive.

Video concept (88,428)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Let me help Mimi out, even though it's too late. Since my biggest issues with the video are why the kids are there and the lack of story line, I think Rheingold help. Mariah is down in the subway station for a ribbon cutting, for the new lamb line to Long Island. She's there with Roc and Roe all dressed and ready. Just as Mimi is about to cut tape a grungy, old, bright, blue/pink train rolls up on the opposite track, with music blasting, people dancing and Roc being a little harass dashes into the train quickly followed by Roe. Mimi whistle screams and dashes on to get her babies. The door slams and off they go. Then all the partiers dance, or slither by, in order to get Mimi's attention, showing massive thirst levels. The lyrics still wouldn't correspond, but it would at least explain why two kids are alone on a subway train and all the frantic dancing and eye rolling.

Well I said focus on talent and professionalism, which is not what you even referred to. I certainly don't think that means being political, or even topical. I like Mimi's music and take her with the grain of salt that she offers.

I don't know if she will ever sell big again. It is possible and I definitely agree she needs to cut the fluff and fakery. She's always saying she doesn't take things too seriously, it's all for laughs, but is that all her career has evolved into, inside jokes, eye rolling, air quotes and winks? I'm not sure she can just display sheer talent, and professionalism anymore. I'm hoping she will fully shed the Stella era/error soon.
