Ellen Infinity clip / Vegas tourbook (53,489) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Freaking hilarious. Laughed out loud. I'm going to grab a physical copy of the album as iTunes doesn't have the booklet. Also if there is a kind lamb on here that would be willing to send me a tourbook from Vegas (I would of course pay for it and shipping) email me deedre.statz@gmail.com.

I posted something similar last week about not needing to defend Mariah. I do understand where Randy is coming from. I was 12 when the debut album came out, and growing up I had family members constantly at me about why I was such a fan etc. I used to be super sensitive to people being critical because I heard it so much from friends and people in general. All I can say, is I had to learn and accept that I can't let my mood/outlook/happiness in life be dependent on anything outside of me, ie what others say/do how they react. I'm always at choice how anything effects me. I'm just not interested in defending Mariah or why I love her to anyone. They either like her or they don't. (And I personally choose not to spend my time on internet sites that clearly don't like her.) But that's just me. I also think comparing artists is rather futile. Everybody brings their own thing to the entertainment business, so I just don't see the point. I know some feel that it has to be competitive. But I just don't. To me comparing instruments is like comparing apples to oranges.

Mariah's latest instagram posts sure look like they could be spots from a Vegas documentary/primetime special. Excited.

I am not sure if you were responding to my post. I just wanted to clarify I'm not saying Mariah and the label don't want to be successful, it's more that I don't think you can predict how things are going to go down. Of course an artist ultimately wants that success, but if that pressure is there everytime you're putting pen to paper? Yikes. It would be hard to create anything that way.

No worries. I understood your points the whole time. I didn't think you were saying you didn't like the song. (And even if you didn't, hey that's you're right.) And the rushed thing was more responding to a post above yours (sorry, lol). But, yeah I think things weren't going well at IDJ for quite awhile, then Mariah also got caught up in personal things going on. I think there is some truth to the world justifying ageism in music too. Honesty, I think we're just in this place where we have to wait and see how things develop with Sony and new projects.

I respect your thoughts, and understand that people just want to see her commercially successful, but I really do feel the song was intended for the Vegas compilation, much like ISB was to the original #1's album. I mean of course artists like to chart, I'm not suggesting they don't. I just don't think Mariah sits down to write going "Ok this is my next top 10 or number 1 record." And honestly? I think her next (hit) will come when least expected. I'm simply saying, Infinity not charting in the top 10 or 20 won't be the end of her career (lol). It is nice at this point for her to put out a song that demonstrates to the public that she can do the kind of ballad with long sweeping belting notes that "Classic Mariah" is known for. I think infinity accomplishes that. And it takes the focus away from the press in the last few years (if you aren't a fan who follows MC closely). Was it rushed? Probably. What with moving labels and signing on for residency? Maybe she could have put out a different type of single, but to me it's pointless to speculate, because this is what we've got. Her interviews have been fantastic, the residency has been positive for her. I don't know, one step at a time.

Infinity (53,272) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I feel Infinity is doing what it was intended to do which is promote the residency. It's not a single in the way "Fantasy" or "#Beautiful" were. I mean, the video is concert footage. Even with the positive push from Sony. (Which was great to see. What artist shouldn't be backed with positivity from the label representing them?) Sure, it would be nice if Infinity charted in the top 20, but if it doesn't, Mariah will be fine. The move to Sony and the residency have already brought so many positive elements together. As for JLo if she's doing a residency, fine. Mariah is Mariah, Britney is Britney and JLo is JLo.

What I love about the Daily Mail article (53,158) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
It is just another one of life's shining examples. We can't judge each other. We aren't living someone else's experience, and no matter how things appear on the outside, there is always, always always more going on beyond the surface. No matter what the circumstances seem to be.

I appreciate your honesty. I'm sure people respond in many different ways. I can only say that for me (not just with Mariah, but with everything in life) expectations are the quickest way to unhappiness. In relationship to others, in everything. I just try my best not to create any expectations. I work through things just making an effort to be present in the moment. When I find myself kinda dwelling on the past or drifting to thoughts of anticipating future, I just kinda re-center myself. It might sound weird to bring up om relation to Mariah but it really is a way to live with a sense of peace. You can read things that the label has to say about a single, and not make any judgement on it. You can hear a song and just enjoy it for what it is. I don't think it is hard to be a Mariah fan, because I don't feel the need to defend her to the general public. I visit this forum and a Madonna one, that's it. I love MC and 99% the time I don't pay attention to what people who don't like her are saying (lol). If they want to hear why I'm a fan, great, but I don't have any interest in trying to convince people of anything. They either like her or not. Doesn't change my love of her. I experience a lot of joy from the music, which isn't dependent on whether lipping or dubbing happens to be involved. I have listened to the Vegas show, and I don't share the sentiment that most of it is lipped or pre-recorded. Is there some? Yes. But, for me personally I don't think it's realistic with Mariah's instrument for her to be singing a 19 track set list 100% live. Again, that's just me. Nothing to do with you. I do get caught up sometimes in wanting to see others happy, but then I just have to remind myself that I'm only responsible for my own happiness (lol).

Some basic human respect (53,114) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
It is one thing to not like a song, an outfit, an album, to disagree with some choices being made and to voice that constructively and respectfully. But it is another thing to be constantly harping on how Mariah's voice is "shot", her show sucks, she is a joke, she is a raging alcoholic, she is a liar, she should retire, she is too old. Some of the things that get said on here are done without one ounce of respect for her as a human being. I don't think anyone is saying they expect people to like or approve of everything she does. I don't think anyone here is claiming her voice is exactly the way it was in the 90's. Yes things have changed. But how many discussions can there be about it before we accept what we've got an move forward based on that? You know? I really hope I'm not coming across as telling someone "how to be a fan" because I'm really not coming from that place. I'd just like to see less attacking of Mariah, and each other. There's a plethora of that stuff all over the internet.

Bill / board (53,113) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I posted the same thing pretty much verbatim on my facebook page about LTT. The debut performances almost made me cry. I'm not saying she's perfect, or agreeing to the blanket statement that lambs look at everything through rose-coulored glasses because I don't believe that it is true. I don't expect people to agree with my opinions, I am not looking for others to validate me, I am not looking to change the views of anyone else I do consider myself a "lamb" although I am sure there are varying definitions on what that means. I do think balance is nice and to be honest lately the collective energy on this site hasn't been that. I am not saying people can't criticize, but I do think it does get lost at times that this website is intended to be a tribute to her. I love her. When you grow up with someone literally being the soundtrack to your life, they become like family (even though you don't know them personally). Sometimes, the comments on here get so intense it's like one should feel bad for being a fan of hers. I won't do that.

Lee / Baby thank you (52,993) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
That LTT clip is awesome. I love when she sings that live. Now that she's with Sony I actually have hope that there will be a DVD release. The stage for the Infinity show is just beautiful. It's amazing the photo and video quality even coming from instagram. Re the Infinity extended video, anyone else reminded of the Daydream era a little with the one curly strand in the front of her hair? There's a photoshoot she did in that time frame that reminds me of that. And that cooking show sketch is hilarious. (Lol.)

Vegas footage (52,950) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I had to come back and say how much I've been enjoying the Vegas footage. Things just got a little intense a little while ago, but it's not that I expect the board to be a utopia. (Lol.) I think we can all say our piece without biting each others heads off. You know? Yay MC. I'm excited for those of you able to go to the shows. Do you guys love the butterfly stage? I think it looks really elegant. (Her photos on instagram.) Vocals sound lovely. It is so hard to pick just one album for me, but if I had to it would be Butterfly. Although Daydream and Memoirs are in there too. Baby, thanks for sharing the latest videos. The flute cover is really cool.

I think I need a little break for a while (52,740) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
The board has gotten way too heavy. I'm sure I'll be back at some point, but right now, it's just not been pleasant (for me). Mariah is an inspiration. Thanks so much to everyone I've met here, the friends I have made, and the sharing of music by fans of a great artist and a wonderful generous spirit. Love to all.

Can we stop name calling? (52,685) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
People that aren't feeling infinity shouldn't have to get labelled absolute Mariah haters, and those that do love the song shouldn't get labelled "delusional" for not being objective or truthful that the song is a "joke", and therefore anyone who actually likes it is also labelled "foolish". I admit that I was surprised by the split reactions intentionally, but I really truly hope that nothing I have ever said on this board has come across as an attack on someone else here. Have a beautiful day, all.

Pearl Theatre album (52,648) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I know that Memoirs is generally not really all that popular among Mariah fans. That's totally cool. I'm fine being in the minority. I absolutely adore that album. It's a fave of mine since Butterfly. I love everything about it. To me it's a mix of everything. A fun summery feeling record. Some absolutely brilliant lyrical references whether paying homage to other artists or simply showing off Mariah's humor and quick wit. She has so much fun on the album, and it somehow balances vintage throwback sound with fresh and trendy, "ahead of its time" music simultaneously. The concert album recently showed up on iTunes, and although I think the actual concert could have been filmed so much better, I think vocally she gave a wonderful performance. It really is a great album. She's really sweet and fun between songs, even making fun of herself as a "diva" while she gets a hair and makeup tweak between songs. Lol.

LC / Skip / genuine question (52,584) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
LC, I voted for your essay. Cheers to you for putting yourself out there. I just applied to go back to Grad school, so I can relate. Keep us posted. Skip, I love your edit so much. Thank you for sharing your talents. I was thinking about this earlier when I read a post by a longtime poster here. My intentions and my question is completely genuine, I'm not singling anyone out or labeling anyone a "bad fan" I'm just really curious. If you are someone who is really frustrated with the music Mariah has released over the last few years, annoyed, irked, disappoined, upset or angry with the way she carries herself, what she does, what she says, her voice, ect, then what is in it for you? If any of the above is genuinely where you are at with things, isn't it complete and total unpleasant torture?

Being positive (52,460) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I think it's interesting, the generalizations that can get made about people who come here to discuss Mariah. There seems to be a constant push and pull positive vs negative. I tend to be a very positive person but it doesn't mean I have adored every single Mariah track full on. Nor does it mean that I think MC is perfect or that I endorse every choice she's ever made. She's a human being. I see no value in picking anyone apart for their choices. Especially, when I have zero control over someone else's free will. There's a poster on here gets blasted a lot, but I quite enjoyed their take on Infinity even though it was very different then mine. Yes, I love the song, and I was surprised with how mixed the reactions were today. Infinity is probably not my favorite Mariah song ever, but I do think it is lovely. I admit, sometimes my optimistic nature just wants to see everyone happy and enjoying themselves. Lol. I am positive, but I can also think for myself and be objective as well. One of the things about being online is that there is so much public anticipation for things before they arrive. It's so different from the days where we couldn't hear anything or discuss it before you bought it on release day at the store. I do think discussing and dissecting everything can be detrimental. I mean is measuring everything really all that important? At the end of the day, imusic is meant to be enjoyed for the fun of it all.

Infinity (52,399) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
My favorite part of the song? "Infinity is more than just a made up dream." When something is real it will always be real. Eternal. There is nothing that can threaten it. If it isn't real, then yes, there's an end, since it was never meant to stay in the first place. This is a woman really putting herself out there. It takes a lot to be so vulnerable. You can hear in her vocals she's still processing a really raw experience. She's being authentic, and that takes bravery. Especially, when it appears "messy" or "diva" or "childish" or whatever else to the outside world. I love the song. Will it be #1? I have no idea. I'm not looking for her 19th every time she puts something out. For me, that kind of thinking is exhausting. It sucks the joy and the life out of everything. It is the set up for nothing ever being good enough, instead of enjoying what is right there. You know you've been coming here a long time, when you hear a new track and instantly know reactions will be all over the place, no matter how good you feel about it. Maybe I'll take a break for awhile. Lol I don't think there's anything on the radio that sounds like Infinity which to me is a good thing. The strings and bells, lovely. Whether it charts well or not its a beautiful record. The lyric video has been deemed low quality by some, but having had some experience with animation, there's a lot of work that goes into something like that.

May (52,272) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I think she's talking about loving yourself from the inside out. Before anything external. Including relationships. That's the feeling I got anyway.
