About Edward from USA:

Re: Lovecraft Country (96,272) (96,279) by Edward from USA
I'm definitely hooked. You should've brought it up two or three seasons in, so I could binge like I did with "Game of Thrones" and "Trueblood" both of which I found out 3-seasons in.

Re: Lovecraft Country (96,268) (96,269) by Edward from USA
Celine Dion is executive producer. I hope Mariah won't object. Lol. I love love the series. Thanks for bringing it up here.

What if (96,263) by Edward from USA
Had Mariah stepped up when Aretha made the call and hit some stratospheric high notes, we would be singing a different tune here. We would all be bragging about how she slayed. None of them chickens on stage could overpower Aretha's gargantuan scream, lol. The only thing they could do was sing the best they could, Celine did. Mariah didn't even try, you can see Aretha wanted her to.

When Mariah outsings a man it's fine because men are there to compliment women voices, and supposedly is expected, such bullshit. But when Mariah holds back for whatever reason, she's doing it out of respect, some more bullshit. Celine has nothing but praises to say about Mariah. She's irrelevant to "The Meaning of Mariah Carey".

Let's shift into an alternate universe, and which Whitney Houston replaces Celine that night, but with the same outcome. Let's also imagine Whitney is still alive. Do you guys think Mariah would've ever mentioned it? I think we all know the answer. And since Whitney Houston is black enough for Mariah, even blacker than her, there wouldn't have been a culture gap as Mariah states it on her memoirs. I don't remotely think Mariah is racist, but the culture gap comment sounds racist to me. I also didn't know that when a black woman and a white woman were singing about Jesus, the white woman had to take the backseat. Maybe that explains why Mariah didn't know what to do with herself. She didn't know which way to go.

Re: On a lighter note (96,257) (96,258) by Edward from USA
Bill, I would've preferred "Do You Know Where You're Going To" over "There for Me". You guys have it as a bonus track on your edition of #1's just like "Everything Fades Away" on Music Box, we don't. If we listen carefully though, both tracks wouldn't have flowed well on this edition of "The Rarities", maybe both will make it on the next one.

On a lighter note (96,256) by Edward from USA
I love "The Rarities". Even though I didn't want SA, EFA and DYTOM on it, I'm glad they finally found a proper home. The way they were sequenced flows perfectly to me. I have listened to the album everyday since it was released. I usually skip "Sexually Transmited Disease". I don't understand how some of the previously unreleased tracks were left aside when they're way better than many of the album cuts they didn't make it into or at least could've sit well with any of them.

Mariah said it but most of us didn't believe her when she wrote/sang:

But don't believe
That's all there is to see
You'll never know the real me

Holefully we can concentrate on her music, after all we know Mariah has always lived in Mariah's World, just like Michael did. Geniuses tend be perceived as weird from the "Outside" "Looking In". Nobody is perfect.

Can't wait for what's in store for Christmas.

Allure (96,205) by Edward from USA
Allure has always complained that once the label shut down they never heard from Mariah, not even a courtesy call. As far as I know and according to them, Mariah didn't try to place them anywhere. There was obvious chemistry between them and Mariah. It would've been nice had they been part of her memoirs instead of Celine Dion.

Re: Are you leaving? (96,198) (96,201) by Edward from USA
So middle-aged people can't write objective reviews about books written by middle-aged women? You definitely out-dumbed yourself with such level of retardation. Thank God I won't think all gays are dumb just because you are.

Re: All I Want For Christmas Is You (96,153) (96,159) by Edward from USA
The Jimmy Fallon performance was definitely fun. It's good Mariah has warmed up to Ariana. She could help Mariah achieve her 20th #1. AIWFCIY will most likely hit #1 again this year.

Re: Trash (96,082) (96,095) by Edward from USA
Bill, Aretha could still blow away any of those on stage that night at 55. If she hadn't had the power to hold up, she wouldn't have made the call. Celine Dion just gave it her all, and she didn't outsing Aretha. Now, let's fast-forward to a supposed 2025 Divas Live, the way things are with Mariah's voice, I doubt she would still be able to sing 10% of any of those powerful songs of hers like Aretha still could, and while group-singing and improvising, she wouldn't be able to use a backtrack. Do you really think, on a Mariah tribute she would made the call on a song like Emotions? Knowing her and her insecurities, hell the f no. Mariah's voice was drowned among the other voices, just like her voice was drowned on that duet with Patti LaBelle, and she really tried it. Now go and watch one of my favorite performances by Mariah, her duet live with Luther Vandross, a favorite of hers, Mariah totally outsang him, like she outsang Boyz II Men and virtually anybody she could while her voice was still capable. She couldn't outsing Whitney because she couldn't at that point. Unless she's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, how is Celine singing with Aretha part of "The Meaning of Mariah Carey"? Didn't she take the path of least resistance bringing Celine on her memoirs instead of Eminem? Well, she knows better than that.

Re: Trash (96,071) (96,076) by Edward from USA
If you put it in context, at that point Celine had been singing since she was 14, releasing albums in English and French, and she was more popular than Mariah at that point in time, she was also touring way more than Mariah in both languages, and still her voice was in pristine condition that night, no excuses. She didn't jump out of nowhere, Aretha made the call. Mariah bringing that moment to her memoirs makes her look bitter. And when she talked about Luis Miguel, a romance that lasted two year, in which she looked very much in love and radiant, was just to somehow make him look bad or even racist. I wish she hadn't said anything about him at all. The memoirs has many touching and fun moments, but Mariah really threw everybody under the bus on it and she doesn't take responsibility for anything at all.

Randy (96,061) by Edward from USA
So sad Randy didn't love not even one song from "The Rarities". I think the album is great and a gift for those of us who lived through and can appreciate such great artistry and musicianship. I don't buy CD's anymore, but this one I had to have for the nostalgia. When I unwrapped it, I was catapulted back to mid 90's. I think TR are a high note in her career. She could retire now if she wanted too. I wouldn't blame her.

Re: Firecracker vs Candy WWHL (96,054) (96,059) by Edward from USA
Like Mariah hated Hero and now she loves it. Coming from her is understandable.
(Friday 9 October 2020; 19:38)
Celine and other BS (96,056) by Edward from USA
I just don't know how Celine has anything to do with "The Meaning of Mariah Carey" while Eminem, whom she recorded a couple of songs and a video about, is irrelevant. Luis Miguel was also brought in and then again she had to say he didn't see her as black to fit in her narrative of how black she is now. Well, that one drop bullshit some white men made up to negate anything black is pure bullshit, and I've only heard of it here in the US. Nothing wrong with being black or white, and nothing wrong with being mixed or multiracial either. Mariah is a mixed woman, she's black and white, period.

Wow Randy. I can't help but feel a sense of loss. You've been part of this dysfunctional family for a long long time, and I'm sad to see you go.

Re: Fave five The Rarities songs (96,000) (96,019) by Edward from USA
1. One Night
2. Loverboy (Stolen Sample)
3. Out Here On My Own
4. Here We Go Around Again
5. Mesmerized

I like "I Pray", but it's more of the same and kind of short. I can see why it wasn't part of any project back then. Definitely a song for a kid like then Paul to sing.

Replacing "Loverboy (Candy)" with "Loverboy (Original Version)", and "Twister" with "Out Here On My Own", Glitter sounds complete to me.

Loverboy (95,966) by Edward from USA
Loverboy is simply brilliant. Mariah's vocals are smoother and better than the one released, and that beat, lore have mercy. It would've definitely hit #1 back then. I'm so glad we finally got to listen to it. Now I understand more than ever Mariah's rage towards Tommy and Jennifer, it was pure evil sabotage.

The Rarities sounds like any other Mariah album in the 90's. It's just great, with at least 4 potential singles. I thought I would replace some tracks and skip others, but I have listened to it non-skip ever since I got it. "One Night" is my favorite, followed by "Loverboy" and "Mesmerized". The sequencing with "DYTOM", "EFA" and "SA" makes perfect sense, it gives cohesiveness to the album, rather than a bunch of disjointed tracks thrown in together. The best gift so far this shitty year.

One Night (95,960) by Edward from USA
Am I the only one in love with "One Night"? It has single potential written all over it, even now. Love the sample on "Mesmerized", I think she picked "Meteorite" over it. I think there's going to be a Rarities 2. I'm pretty sure that Mariah recorded over 20 or more tracks for each album in the 90's. I suspect there's going to be a new album next year.

Butterfly (95,891) by Edward from USA
Oh wow, now it all makes sense. I can't wait to finish with the audiobook to listen to Butterfly with a new found appreciation for it. I can't believe Mariah went to my country for a express divorce from Tommy. Lol.

Audiobook (95,854) by Edward from USA
I pre-ordered the ebook and the audio-book, but the e-book became available first at midnight. I read for an hour and eventually went to sleep. The audio-book was already available when I woke up. I got ready for work and on my way out started listening from the beginning. Oh wow. Mariah sounds as if she were telling you a story rather than reading a book, with singing, laughs, and all the different emotions in her voice asshe goes through it. You have to listen to her tell you about her times with her father, hilarious. I'll keep on listening later today.

Re: Cool On You (95,799) (95,804) by Edward from USA
If it's way better than the bonus tracks on international releases of E=MC2, I can't wait to listen to it. From TEOM on, bonus tracks on international releases were awful. I can't stand "Sprung" or "Secret Love", so annoying. I think Mariah is going to continue with "The Rarities" series, I'm pretty sure she has many other hidden gems. I was hoping for "Kick Rocks", well, maybe next year. So great she can serve these tracks to us herself and not someone else after she's gone.

Re: Mariah approved spoilers (95,785) (95,787) by Edward from USA
I must admit I have sinned, I watched the interview, and it was sad, but great interview nonetheless. There are some spoilers, but not enough to ruin the book, just enough to keep us salivating. But I refuse to sin again by listening to any of the snippets, that I won't do. Even if I have to tide myself to a pole, I won't. Reading how many of you think the snippets sound amazing, it's very tempting.

Re: Mariah approved spoilers (95,777) (95,780) by Edward from USA
Bill is a life ruiner, he ruins people's lives. I haven't listened to any of the snippets. I want it to feel like when I was 3 and the Butterfly album came out.

Re: The Oprah Conversation (95,758) (95,761) by Edward from USA
I was debating whether to pre-order the physical book or the audio-book, but finally went for the audio-book. As much as I love having a tangible book in my hands, I rather listen to Mariah read to me whatever she's gone through. I got my over-ear headphones ready for the experience. I'll start listening to it from September 29 to October 2. Once I'm done, I'll unwrap "The Rarities" CD, and listen to CD-1 until my neighbors' weaves, wigs, and toupees fry on their heads. If there's a knock on the door with a complain, I'll comply but I'll play GTFO to culminate the evening. The next day, I'll obliterate the tracks I don't like and add "Don't Play That Song", "Do You Know Where You're Going To", "Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix)", "Right to Dream", "Help Me Make It" and "Almost Home". If "Slipping Away", "Everything Fades Away" and "Do You Think of Me" are decent enough to be on the album, why leave "Do You Know Where You're Going To" out? I can't wait.
