I wish (42,898)

I knew for sure when the album would be released. Ever since TEOM I've taken a day off work the day her album comes out (actually, for that particular album, a day off school, as I was only 16 at the time.). I'm so excited for this album - listening to the songs she has released in a specific order, you really do get a sense that each song is a part of an overall body of very strong work. I know TAOLG wasn't what many of you expected or enjoyed, but for me it has become one of my favourite ever MC songs. Bring on the new music from the worlds premiere diva.

Smart (42,897)
by Angelo from Italy

|

I was laughing reading "Mariah, she's smart". Smart? Mariah's smart? A person that doesn't choose Migrate, Side Effects, For The Record, Standin' O as singles is smart? The same persone who disappears for "final touches" for 4 years and doesn't answers to her fans? You're crazy. The album will come out this December, AIWFCIY (Eternal Remix) will be the lead single. You'll see.

"The Voice" won't be title of album (42,896)

Mariah said the album takes its name from a "personal possession of mine that's part of an entity that I've had almost all my life". I'm not sure what it means but I'm beyond excited to know and hear the album.

I knew this wouldn't be her last album. She's said multiple times that she will always make music. You can find those comments on YouTube. I love that Billboard picture so much. Simple and beautiful and not photoshopped.

Billboard cover (42,894)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

It's funny how all the drama subsided the minute this promo pic surfaced, and now news of the possible digital album surprise release, maybe word of the twitter wars with JD got to her ears lol. I'm loving this Billboard cover though, it's simple and grabs one's attention, the colored version is even more stunning. Mariah is a beautiful woman. I'm getting Music Box album cover artwork and also Obsessed (the single artwork) vibes from it though.

So now we're getting some steam rolling ahead with the album, now we know it's a digital release, and it makes me wonder what became of the little bash she threw with all the major radio station DJ's back on April 2nd. What is the plan to be unraveled?

Expect big ballads and uptempo bangers. After immersing herself in her own catalog ("a friend of mine made me a playlist with 1,000 of my songs on it called 'The Ultimate MC Audio Collection'," she says), Carey explored her feel-good, hip-hop/R&B side as well as her more introspective moments that could give her fans the best of all worlds. She's been reading the messageboards and is going to give us what we want. Big ballads and club bangers.

Triumphant (Get Em) and The Art Of Letting Go were buzz songs. Not official singles. Triumphant was for Nick. The Art Of Letting Go was for the fans. Almost Home was a soundtrack song. #Beautiful and You're Mine(Eternal) are the only official singles from this album. You're Mine was a mid tempo R&B ballad that was never going to be a huge hit and she knew it. The next single will be the single that's meant to promote and carry the album. She's calling the shots. She's smart.

I don't know about you all but I am more excited now than I have ever been since finding out about the upcoming album. Just hearing descriptions of the type of music we'll be hearing, not to mention the collaborations sends chills up my spine. Who else is ready?

I agree with the person who said to keep an eye out for the album. I do believe it will come earlier than May 6th, definitely in May not April. But not pay May 6th. As long as It doesn't get pushed past May 6th for the unknown date effect, I'll be fine.

Thank God for that Billboard cover, it came at the perfect time. Mariah is like an angel that can brighten up my darkest day, whether it's through song or a simple beautiful photo. She was put on this earth for a reason, I'm so ready for this album like you'll never believe and I pray no one or nothing stop it from going to the top and just sitting there Adele style. Viva la diva.

Billboard cover (42,882)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

I love the Billboard cover, it's a classic Mariah shot. It's very similar to that photo that was used a lot in magazines and when Mariah was doing promo during Glitter. I'm sure you guys know the picture, where Mariah more or less pulls the exact same pose, but with different lighting and non wet hair. I suspect Mariah will drop her album to iTunes before May 6th, so it's probably best to keep your eyes posted from this Tuesday onwards, as it could drop anyday. May 6th might be the release date for the physical album. We shall see though, as I could be totally wrong. It is just these "secret" releases tend to work like that. I think Pharrell did the same thing.

All press is good press / Butterfly all over again (42,881)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

Since May 6th is the release date, she won't technically be pulling a Beyoncé. The element of surprise will be the details about the album. People will be very curious. She is smart enough not to change the set date. Don't expect physical CD's right away, the album will be digitally released first, and probably a week later physical CD's will be available. It is weird though having an album with no name when you have set a release date. It will be like in '97 when I walked in the store and bought my copy of Butterfly and went home. Even though the Honey single already listed that it was taken from Butterfly, discovering every track was intriguing and exciting. I would never forget my first reaction to the song Butterfly, the nuances and lyrics captivated me.

You're correct in noticing the similarities in the two covers, but this era's photos are definitely not from TEOM. They likely come from early 2013 or late 2012. Markus and Indrani did shoot the TEOM-era covers. I'm not sure if Mariah has worked with them anytime from 2005-20012. Recently she teamed up with them for the gorgeous TAOLG cover (and the album cover that had been leaked by Walmart). Hopefully she continues to work with them and other great artists, as the quality of covers has been lacking in recent years. I think Markus and Indrani really create stunning shots of Mariah. (Sidenote: Indrani was the director for the "You're Mine (Eternal)" music video.)

Formula changes / visions (42,874)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I definitely think Mariah should change up her formula. How about some more pop? How about working with some producers that are not notorious for just hip-hop and rap? If she is gonna go the hip-hop route than maybe a collaboration with Snoop, Jay-Z or a beat made by Dr. Dre. A Kanye collab? Just something other than formula of soft coos and a whistle at the end. In my opinion, this soft R&B like YME isn't working and definitely isn't boosting her relevance. The masses really aren't checking for straight R&B anymore unless it's coming from a male singer like Miguel or Chris Brown. Mariah has the ability to slay if she's truly motivated, but she seriously has to abandon her comfort zone for that to happen.
