About MusicfanJ from Germany:
I'm a fan of Mariah since Daydream came out.

Oh yes, "Looking in" is even greater than "Close my eyes" if I think about it. That song is a pure poem and I also think it's one of her most personal songs. I love the lyrics since I heard Daydream on cassette back then. I remember that because of this song I wanted to understand all her lyrics. So in 95/96 I had a big dictionary and I tried to translate the song. And I knew Mariah is so special, simply the best not only because of her voice, her look but because of her songwriting. That's my favorite part until today:
Don't say she takes it all for granted I'm well aware of all I have Don't think that I am disenchanted Please understand It seems as though I've always been Somebody outside looking in Well here I am for all of them to bleed But they can't take my heart from me And they can't bring me to my knees They'll never know the real me

I also like "For the record" because of this reason. But my all time favorite is:
Nearing the edge Oblivious I almost Fell right over A part of me Will never be quite able To feel stable That woman-child falling inside Was on the verge of fading Thankfully I woke up in time
Guardian angel I Sail away on an ocean With you by my side Orange clouds roll by They burn into your image And you're still alive
But I closed my eyes Steadied my feet on the ground Raise my head to the sky And though time rolls by Still feel like a child As I look at the moon Maybe I grew up a little too soon
The part with the guardian angel could be a song for itself. So poetic. I love it so much. And I miss those kind of lyrics. The lyrics on the Butterfly album are truly everything.

I can only think of Christina Aguilera. With the other ones Mariah will never ever collaborate.

Yes "Long Ago" is an underrated gem. I still love it and listen a lot to it too. The way she sings it, so special and so Mariah. "Cause tonight I'm crumbling down Sinking in the memories Shadows of you keep washing over me" That part is so great.

All I can say is just no. I feared that something like that would happen because of her once beloved "empower clan". It's very embarrassing for her and it's a shame that it happens now while her image is still in repair. With all the praise the last months, the press will destroy it a lot with the pics. It's really sad for Mariah and it's indeed embarrassing for her fans too.

How could I forget the whistle in "Lead the way". It's truly angelic. I also love the end of "Giving me life".

I did go to the Charmbracelet tour too and it was overwhelming. Her voice was just stunning. It was my first concert and I had some doubts that the voice wouldn't be that brilliant live. But it was even better than on cd at that time. When she sang "Bringin on the heartbreak" the audience were freaking out. Mariah Carey at her best. The other songs from Charmbracelet were also even better live. And the band intro was so cool and classy diva. Best concert experience in my life. And one of the best nights until now.

My favorites are "Can't let go", the beginning sounds like an angel, "Emotions", "Fantasy" and "Bringin on the heartbreak". And the "All in your mind" whistle is just cute.

So true Marissa. I completely agree with "If someone treats everyone around them like trash, you will be next. When people show you who they are, believe them. Don't think that you're so special that you'll be exempt." A grown-up should have known that even with little knowledge of human nature.

I'm so tired to hear something of those fake/trash people. It's the only thing I feel a bit ashamed of as a long-time fan of Mariah that she allowed them to be part of her inner circle. We all make mistakes, but Mariah must have been blind that she couldn't see what will happen. I mean if you surround yourself with fame and money-hungry snakes.

Great "memoirs" from Curaçao. Wow how fantastic it must be to hear Mariah singing while you're on this beautiful island. I love to watch travel documentaries and an episode about Curaçao really got me dreaming. Anyway I hope you get a chance to see Mariah again. I wish all the lambs a nice weekend.

Documentary about the vocal trinity (89,798)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Yesterday there was a doc about the vocal trinity (Whitney, Mariah and Celine). Believe it or not but Mariah got most praised. It was on the French/German channel Arte, where they showed the snippets of Vanishing and Vision If Love live. There was also a classical singer who talked about the techniques of the three best singers. It was very interesting. Mariah really did give her all since 90 and I'm so happy that she seems to take care more of herself lately. They showed little footage and interviews from 90 until now and my thought was I love her so much, you have to. I wish all lambs a fantastic time who are attending her show today and on Sunday. I read Paris is sold out.

Honey remixes (89,797)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Lately I'm a bit obsessed with Mariah's remixes. I rediscovered the Honey remixes and they are so good. Most people think of Mariah as the ballad queen and Christmas of course. I wish more would know about her uptempos and dance songs. But somehow it's also nice that only fans knows the true treasures.

I love the live version of "America the Beautiful" so much. And the reactions of the NBA players. Tough question, I'll try to choose: 1. Vision of love (until today unrivalled) 2. Without you (one of her best covers) 3. Fantasy (the ultimate Mariah song) 4. Hero (the message will always inspire people) 5. All I want for Christmas is you (MC is the queen of Christmas with no doubts) It's even harder to pick a live-version, maybe the SNL Can't Let Go version and Anytime You Need a Friend at Tokyo Dome. Bill your choices are great. The Dreamlover remix is one of my favs too. I'm going to listen to it now.

Love to read all the reviews. Royal Albert Hall really must be so special. A tour DVD of it would be very welcomed. I also prefer a smaller venue for Mariah. So it's really perfect. I read that the one in Paris will also be a smaller venue and not a stadium. I wish I could go there or in Hamburg but this time I can't. Are any of you lambs going to see her on the next dates in Europe? I hope to read more of your experiences with the Caution tour.

All I want to say about this topic is that today I saw a picture with Madonna in our newspaper with the title: Zero points for Germany, but well we were better than Madonna. All were better. Lol I didn't read one positive thing about her "show". And I'm not suprised.

Bill I know what you mean. I discovered Mariah also by my own. It really made it special. So I'm sorry she's mine too. But I never thought if it until I read your post. It's really interesting to read how it all started and I think we as fans have a lot in common how our love for MC started.

The Daydream album/cassette. With this album everything started. My fandom for life. I still have it (the cassette) it's like a holy grail, I mean for music. When I first heard "Fantasy" on the radio I immediately bought the album. And I wanted to know everything about this beautiful woman and singer with a voice I never heard before. Later I realized that Mariah also sung "Without You". A song I loved back then on the radio when I was little.
