About this_is_qhm from the Philippines: I love the intricate vocal harmonies only Mariah can make.

Re: Mariah's World (68,828) (68,840) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Finally, some clips with actual substance. Hope this type of footage dominates the entire show and they edit out the wedding parts to as few scenes possible because it's not like that was ever gonna happen anyway and it would just be a poor, cheap storyline.

Re: Stella, Bryan and gang are users bleeding Mariah (68,834) (68,839) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Sorry for drawing a race angle off of this issue but if it's proven that Tanaka is really using Mariah for the perks, then he's giving us Asians a bad name. Shame on Mariah for not seeing it, double shame on Tanaka for doing such thing whilst carrying an easily identifiable Asian surname.

Re: What's so special about her? (68,758) (68,783) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
True. 2014 was such a bad year for Mariah in so many aspects that pretty much anyone could have stepped in as her new manager and done absolutely nothing and most of the Lambily would still have sung him/her praises. That's how low things were back then. They made someone like Stella somehow seem like a gift to all lambkind.

Brandy is lady of soul (68,775) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Congratulations to one of the most distinctive voices in R&B - Brandy. Well deserved. Girl killed her medley of hits at the Soul Train Awards. I have all of her albums except Human and I still listen to each and every one of them on a monthly basis. Her debut was cool. Never Say Never still sounds every bit the smash it was. Full Moon will always be the best showcase of Darkchild/Rodney Jerkins' talents as a producer and Brandy's impeccable vocal talent. Afrodisiac still astounds me with its maturity (released when Brandy was only 25) and hints that Mariah would also sound good in front of a Timbaland production. And Two Eleven is as mature and raw as the best R&B records out there. Bravo, girl, bravo. Bring on the new album.

All I Want For Christmas Is You (68,737) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I've been pretty hard on Mariah lately so I decided to take a step back and try to balance that out by posting something that has been mentioned countless times but still not mentioned enough - AIWFCIY. This is her legacy. Only those quite knowledgeable in music will recognize her for pushing the Pop-R&B-Hip-hop fusion to its ubiquitous mainstream status today, but everyone, even those who don't celebrate Christmas knows that she has written the most recent tune worthy of being considered a holiday classic. The last one was Wham's Last Christmas, which is also brilliant. A lot of artists since then have managed futile attempts at creating that magical holiday song since then. Not Celine, Whitney, Janet, or even Madonna has that. I'd rather her have that than any of the awards she has been robbed of from that award show they call the Swifties/Yoncies.

Re: My All and TGIFY live proved she can sing (68,694) (68,697) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
And that's what's frustrating. She does show glimmers of potential. Why not go all out? Leave it all out there? In 2009, Whitney was at her worst vocally, and yet she wasn't ashamed of disappointing fans, even with the backlash that ensued. At least she was being real. Everybody knows Mariah's voice has gone through hell. There's no point in keeping up the illusion that she can still sing like she can in the 90s. Sing the entire chorus and climax of My All. Sing IDWC all throughout. If that's too hard, then drop a key like she did with Emotions. This is all about pride, when people will actually be more accepting of her if she shows that she's vocally flawed. It's this charade that turns some off. She's a vocalist, period. That doesn't mean that she can't do anything else onstage to improve herself as an entertainer, but if she's trying to fool everyone to keep this image of her being a perfect singer when in fact she isn't, then what will be left of her in the future? It's bad enough that her image is at its worst since Glitter. The voice should at least buoy her back up. Focus on that. She still has it. She just doesn't use it to her advantage because she's either scared or lazy, and that's a shame. It's one thing to know the limitations of your current voice. It's an entirely different thing to try to make the audience think you still can do it like you did in the past by using playback way too much - and being bad at it. Wake up, Mariah. Come back.

Re: Comeback (68,692) (68,693) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Still from her. The studio perfectionist, roided-out, hundred take-r, super-engineered version of her. And we still haven't talked about the proper production process. So in a weird way, it's like having Britney in the studio, only older and with much more vocal expertise that she probably can still tap into live if she really tried and wanted to, but would rather mime, touch herself and gyrate awkwardly, because apparently that's what really matters now.

Re: Bruno Mars (68,678) (68,691) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
His new one, 24K Magic, trumps both his debut and Unorthodox Jukebox in terms of throwback execution and cohesiveness. You should check that one out.

Re: Nick (68,594) (68,598) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Yes please, Nick is a significant part of Mariah's life, but is just so irrelevant to us fans in general and has occupied quite an unwarranted chunk of space on this board.

Re: The Fornication of Mimi (68,565) (68,567) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Again please re-read my post if anything said was meant to be taken seriously. Hence the first line. I apologize if it came across the wrong (non-jokingly) way. On a board where Mariah's most private part has been referenced several times in non-joking, non-sarcastic ways with practically no one batting an eyelash, simply alluding to the same subject but that of a guy's in a manner that was not intended to be taken seriously is simply not that much different. Is it unwarranted? Yes. But then again on a board where Mariah has been been criticized for behavior that she wouldn't have had been criticized as much for if she were a man, there is clearly a deeper issue here than that of me just making an unnecessary saucy joke that has apparently failed to come across as it was intended to. Peace.

Let's get crass. Haha. I think you're being a bit too generous with "cannon". For all we know Mariah was just too polite to hurt his feelings about it, if you catch my drift. Moving on... Haha.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey recording breakup album after split (68,476) (68,505) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I see where Andrew's coming from with this. There is no doubt Mariah can write one hell of a breakup album, but the problem is that her image has been so trashed in the past few years for the public to actually pay attention to her detailing her relationship problems. She is becoming less and less of a believable source for this information and this type of material right now. If Mariah comes out with a fun, upbeat party album, it will still be criticized for being too detached from reality, and that's fine. Her relationship with her kids aside, that's how she is right now anyway - out of touch and soon out of time if she doesn't get her crap together stat.

Re: Mariah, it's one line, just sing it (68,488) (68,503) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
This is exactly the kind of behavior that reinforces the burgeoning notion that she can't sing anymore. Also the kind of behavior, sadly, that defines Mariah Carey these days. Now it's all just smoke and mirrors. And boobs. And tacky antics and questionable clothing choices. And even more boobs. When you're one of the world's biggest music stars and people can only talk about your music by referencing your past glories and almost none of your recent offerings, that only goes to show how far you've fallen, or at least how out-of-touch you have been. But when you're the same Mariah Carey who miraculously pulled off possibly the most impressive comeback for a female artist in music history, people know better than to write you off so quickly. That is, not unless you let them. Come back, Mariah, I know you're still in there somewhere.

Bruno Mars - 24K Magic (68,457) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The album is amazing. It's his best, most cohesive effort yet. He has always managed the tricky art of striking a balance between artistry and Top 40 sensibilities, and now he nails it once again with even better retro influences that are flawlessly executed. So what if it's shallow and synthetic? It will still be the most fun 30-something minutes you've heard all year, maybe even in a long time. Short and sweet. And Mariah, why and how on earth have you not collaborated with this dude yet? It's criminal.

Re: Merry Christmas 2 You (68,393) (68,398) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Yeah, especially the AIWFCIY redux. That was borderline offensive. This to me was officially the point where Mariah, who invented the art of creating successful remixes, had not only lost her touch - she completely forgot what "remix" meant. And I had no idea that adding a few more bells and little flourishes here and there apparently is all it takes to make something more "festive". It's like re-receiving the gift you got last year only after tearing through a different wrapper.

Re: Merry Christmas 2 You (68,370) (68,390) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Mariah's first Christmas album is one of her top 3 albums where she was most vocally on point and sure it is beloved, but if we're being really honest, only AIWFCIY and Miss You Most are the songs in it that are really worth repeated listens. Her follow-up manages to balance modern and traditional Christmas sounds way better. The song selection is also more varied, making it a more interesting, thus enjoyable listen. And I while I was most worried about the new original songs, my fears were put to rest when I heard Christmas Time Is In The Air Again and When Christmas Comes. Those are timeless masterpieces that Taylor Swift can only dream of writing.

Re: Glitter album (68,352) (68,379) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
True. I sorta have this "rule" when in comes to music, where a retro spin will not work unless the reference point is at least about 15 years ago. Any time lesser than that will most likely produce unsuccessful results because the wait hasn't been long enough and the sonic landscape has not changed that much, rendering any attempt at recreating that sound pointless. Case in point: while not really meant as a throwback, Mariah's many attempts at recreating the mid-2000s R&B-pop vibe that made TEOM so successful has almost always fallen short/flat. In contrast, Meghan Trainor's fusion of late 90s teen pop with 00s urban pop has worked for her single "No". 2001 was simply too soon for an 80s throwback album. Would it have worked had it been released later? Still probably not that well, but it would have made a little more sense, and that doesn't take away from the fact that Mariah was on to something great - it just happened at the wrong time.

Re: Christmas compilations (68,306) (68,317) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Wrapped In Red is golden. Especially that title track. So lovely. And Michael Buble's Christmas album may potentially outsell Mariah's first Christmas offering if it keeps selling the way it does. Jazz-pop fanbases are very loyal.

Worst gossip site ever (68,298) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I know there are a lot of them and that they all have the same M.O., but CelebDirtyLaundry is just the worst, period. Not only does it live up to its name - it manufactures its own dirty laundry. Here are some of the most recent laughable headlines it's published about Mariah (copied verbatim):
Mariah Carey says she dumped violent and unstable James Packer: Packer denies claims
Mariah Carey wedding: planning to marry billionaire boyfriend James Packer after dating for just two weeks?
Mariah Carey pregnant with James Packer's baby: Nick Cannon divorce still not official
Mariah Carey dramatic weight loss: exercising and diet or gastric bypass surgery like boyfriend James Packer?
Mariah Carey postpones wedding to James Packer: Nick Cannon won't let her get married.
Mariah Carey's wedding is cancelled: Nick Cannon continues to stall divorce, James Packer moving on?
Mariah Carey assures world that James Packer wedding still on: it takes time
Mariah Carey traumatized over James Packer Split: singer comforted by new lover and back up dancer Brian Taneka?
I mean, seriously, this site makes TMZ look like CNN, and CNN today isn't even half as trusted as it was over a decade ago. Hilarious.

Ugh (68,192) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay, I tried, but I really just can't with this outfit. This is up there with the pantless lingerie tragedy that she wore to that event she tried to pass off as her "DJ-ing debut". I mean this is just tacky and cheap as hell, and that color ain't helping either. Is that like a cross between salmon and baby pink? It's the least flattering as well. You're Mariah Carey, not some blow-up sex doll. Now the white pleated dress (reminiscent of the TEOM sleeve photo with that sheer cloth draped over her naked body) and that other pink leotard with the mini-dress attachment on is much more like it. Sexy, flirty, fun and most essential of all (to Mariah), exposes the twins that aren't Dembabies.

True. On My Own is Patti's best song. It's one of the most grown-up sounding duets I have ever heard. I miss Michael McDonald. Mariah would sound great with him.

Re: Donald trumps Hillary (68,160) (68,174) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I don't even live in the US but since it's the most powerful nation in the world, that makes it our business, too. Let's say Trump may very well prove us all wrong. If he does, then great. Regardless, what disappoints me most about this loss is how it proves just how much - even after centuries of fighting for equal rights and opportunities between men and women - America is still not quite ready to take that big step just yet. I know there's more to leadership than the gender of the president, but perhaps it was just too much to ask for, believing that after two consecutive terms of leadership from the first black president in the country's history, that we could somehow keep the momentum going and have a woman leader for a change. Oh well... Trump better not screw this up. So did Mariah vote?

Re: No new Mariah (68,142) (68,144) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I really believe that every person is multi-faceted and Mariah is no exception. But heavens, this would mean that what we're seeing from her now is one mother of a facet, huh? Apparently, the team she is with these days brings out this side of her that is barely even tolerable. I mean this is just about the most self-absorbed she has been in her entire career. I know this may be going too far but this era is, in some respects, even worse than the Glitter era. At least back then she was battling with exhaustion from a decade-long stress and people ganging up against her. I wouldn't wish anything ill on my enemies, let alone Mariah, but is she waiting for another breakdown of similar proportions to knock her back down to earth?
