"ABMB is a stalker love song." Haha. I never thought of it this way but it's true, a stalker could easily like it. To answer RJJ12 question for the Valentine's Day: Lead The way, Endless Love and Emotions.

Exactly she's human like everybody else. I hate the fact that a lot of people wants everyone to behave like a machine or a robot. 24/7Perfect, always smiling: a living soul can't be like that. It makes everyone ill, if you can't act like a human anymore. No one knows what she was going through at this time, you can only imagine like Tjil said it must have been hell. To be human is great, to act like a robot is not natural and pretty unhealthy. I know many people with the modern "burn-out", people should be more aware if someone is "screaming" for help but most of all we should never judge "weakness". One said you must be very tough to show weakness. Love that quote. Everyone is struggling sometimes. I just wish Mariah a happy, healthy life. She's giving so much, she deserves more than success and money. She deserves inner peace and happiness. Sorry if I sound like a preacher, but that are just some thoughts.

Whitney Houston (80,903)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
I saw a very emotional documentary about Whitney yesterday. Mariah will always be my number one, but I've always loved and appreciated Whitney too. I discovered a lot of Whitneys songs again. And "When you believe" is still amazing. Someone mentioned on this board how cool it would be if Mariah covers "You give good love". I like this idea, I love all covers by Mariah. She's always makes them very special. Gonna listen to "I'm your baby tonight". Whitney is really missed, can't believe how the time goes time.

I also noticed the thing with the echo. Somehow the album gets even deeper from the feeling while listening to it. Is it a technical thing that was popular at that time? I can't hear it on the other albums too.

Sorry if I sounded too harsh. I do understand what "TJ" was saying about the venue. But imagine Mariah would sell 30,000 tickets, then still someone would say: Oh her latest album didn't sell so well. Of course the selling is not like it used to be for many reasons. But I would love to see her at a small, intimate venue. It's nothing bad. She did all the big concert halls around the world, why not try a smaller one?

Compared to Eminem Mariah will always be a "press conference". He may be still hip and cool and selling tickets but a lot of adults don't even know him. I used to listen to him in the late 90ies when he was his prime and after the millenium years. I think he's become a hip-hop legend but Mariah was always on another level. Mariah has everything, the complete package, Ben Margulies once said at the beginning of her career: the look, the voice, the charisma. She's got it all. And it doesn't make sense to compare a male hip-hop artist with a female singer. So don't worry about the one and only MC.

I totally agree. I love soul, rnb and jazz music. But when Mariah is doing pop music, it's another thing. She's simply the best when she's making "pop-soul". Never liked Tommy, but it's true during his years Mariah was delivering music that goes straight to your heart and she did soulful pop gems that will stay forever.

Thanks RJJ12 for sharing. There are "new" vocals on it. I wonder how they made these stripped down versions. At the end when she sings: "I'm telling you baby. Just wonderful."

It's one of my favorites too. Such a unique and beautiful song. And yes the classy video is still wonderful to watch. I wish Mariah wouldn't underrate her own songs. This song has so much emotion, love every second of it. Great post by Mara as always.

Andrew should go to a Rihanna fan site. Or Madonna or someone the complete opposite of Mariah. There are many other singers he can express his "love" and other feelings. Mariah loves her true fans and always will.

Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" with Beyoncé (80,773)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I just heard this version on the radio and I thought how wonderful Mariah would sound on it. I have nothing against Beyoncé but her singing doesn't touch my heart at all. Hmm anyway I think Mariah won't work with Ed Sheeran in the future. But who knows? I'm longing for new music from MC this year.

What a great post Tijl. I enjoyed it a lot. I had all the described scenes on my mind. Perfect daydream. Haha. And I also think most of us love the same videos of the one and only Mariah. Those are my favorites too plus Heartbreaker (funny and MC was rocking the cinema), ABMB remix with Da Brat (Mariah looks like a model and the cat scene is just gorgous), Bringin on the Heartbreak (love her style, the red dress and the little "tribute" for the rose movie) and last but not least Fantasy (love the typical 90ies flair and the skating and rollercoaster riding Mariah).

I was thinking about CTTA just two days ago. Because of the wonderful lyrics and the message. A funny happenstance that you mentioned this song on this topic. It's hard to choose the most inspiring song, Mariah has got a lot. Mine are "CTTA", "Outside" and "Trough the rain". Oh and "Hero" although it is very schmaltzy, I still love it.

Tough question, I have to choose Daydream too. I love her voice during 93, when I first heard her voice on "Without you" I was blown away. But in 95 there was "something magical" and I got "addicted" to her music.

Her aura, her smile and the complete look at that time just beautiful. I love her natural look. And yes she looked like a princess. But at the same time so humble. She's a natural beauty and the fact that she had those insecurities makes her even more beautiful. She was shining from the inside plus her beauty plus her voice. It was almost too much. "Endless love" is one of the best romantic songs ever. Mariah and Luther took it to another level.

I remember that she got referenced but I don't know the episode too. Will is in real life a true admirer. Mariah was and is mentioned so often in episodes and even movies. I once had a list of it, because I found it so cool that Mariah is mentioned by so many people. Even in novels, I have two books and two autobiographies were she is mentioned. Always positive. And the poster of her in the "Mean Girls" movie is legendary isn't it?

Hilton I love your post. I think the same way especially "be happy that our girl is still alive, well, healthy and at least looking like she's back to herself". As long as she's really smiling I'm happy too. I don't get too excited like most of you only because of the studio pic but maybe this is a new start to get back to the "magic" when her heart's into it, I have no doubts for some great recordings.

I think Mariah will never release a title like "Ashes" or "Misery", too dark. But "The rise of the Phoenix" sounds pretty cool. How about "Soul Serenade"? 12 Tracks with great lyrics with a classy soul vibe, one jazz tune (I know some lambs don't want jazz) and some retro soul like "Meteorite" (which has this retro vibe but sounds also fresh). One can only dream. But I also agree with Licia as long as the music is good, the title is not so important. Imagine she names it "Festive Moments". Haha.

Well said Bill. I always have to think about the big diamond ring from her first marriage. It was a beautiful ring, but she never wore it again after the divorce. Did she? I think after a separation you won't keep it or at least won't wear it. The thing with the Packer-ring, I don't get it. Mariah should "free herself" from that ring, no matter how expensive it is.

I'm sure Mariah will give us more music. She's a true musician and needs to express herself through it. Licia you're right she's way too young to stop making albums. But if she needs some extra time, I'm ok with it.
