About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Girl, you crack me up. Welcome to parenthood. I am sure MC and Nick have had those moments too. Kids, you gots to love them. Did I tell you I'm expecting my 3rd child? A boy and yes, we are done after this one, lol. You are totally right, Stephen. Daydream just gets it right on all fronts. The music is mature, but fun at the same time. It's not all cheese (ala I'm That Chick (you like)). Although I love that song too, hehe.

Ariana Grande / Daydream (38,844)
by Stacey from USA
| |

For Ariana to have a long lasting career, she has to find her own style. Copying someone else's style will only get you so far. The reason MC, Celine, and Whitney have done so well was because their styles and voices were so different, original. MC came onto the scene and people stopped in their tracks asking, "Who is that?" Trust me, I had the same reaction the first time I heard her voice. I agree with everything said about Daydream. It's why that album is a part of my email address, etc. Plus, I love to "daydream" as well, if I can get a few minutes away from my kids, lol. The album is superb because it is such a perfect balance between pop and R&B. Those of us older fans who love her earlier work 90-93, the more sugary stuff, still have those types of songs on Daydream, but with a bit more R&B flare that R&B fans can appreciate. Know what I mean? I think it's why I love TEOM so much. There again is that perfect balance between pop and R&B that so many people can listen to.

I would love to hear it. Their voices are so different, yet would compliment each other well. I love the shoutouts to my favorite album of all time. Daydream is timeless and so are the songs, etc.

Mariah's voice / Looking In audio file (38,734)

The voice is what it is. You live with the choices you make. Only MC knows if she has made taking care of her voice a top priority or not. On a lighter note, I have a pretty good audio mp3 of Looking In from the MLB charity concert if any of you are interested. Email me: daydream_mc@yahoo.com.

Looking In performance (38,709)

Watch the up close video on MDJ. She is clearly moved by the song. She didn't forget the lyrics. She did not forget the lyrics to a song that she is so emotionally connected to.

I would love some mp3s of the songs sung, especially Looking In. Man, there is no way she forgot the lyrics. Watch the up close video on MDJ and I'm telling you that was simply her getting caught up remembering a tough time in her life. Ok I said that already, sorry. Such a great song and a powerful performance. She can still sing live. That's for dang sure.

Looking In (38,697)

That song is the personal anthem of mine. I'm not a fan of the softer vocals, but for that song, it fits it so well. It's probably in my top 5 favorite songs by MC. When a song affects you so much as that song does, it's understandable she would get caught up in an emotional moment and forget the lyrics. That song was such a powerful statement of what she was going through at the time. It's no surprise it was the last song on the album. It left people with a sad taste in their mouths because MC was very sad at the time. So happy to see her sing it live. Dream come true. Priceless.

Lee and Stephen / singing live / enwar00 / Gilbert (38,655)
by Stacey from USA

Really guys? MC fakes the whole injury thing? Haha. I don't know about that. You'd be right if there was an album to be released, lol. Right now, we have no set date. Thanks for the chuckle, though. I can't wait to see how she'll decorate the sling. On a side note, there is a YouTube video showing MC singing "Underneath the Stars" in between AI takes and man does she sound amazing. I wish she'd get over this stage fright, whatever it is and just sing live. She still has it. enwar00, it's nice when you can discover new songs you forgot about. MC has such an amazing catalog of songs. Gilbert, I don't think too much about illuminati conspiracies, etc. It was clear MC has a love of R&B from the very beginning and fought to incorporate more of that in her music.

MC going to "R&B" has its roots all the way back to Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me, B-sides not being placed on the USA edition of Music Box. Sony wanted her to maintain a certain appearance and MC was pushing against that. It's why they fought her on the ODB addition to Fantasy. It's very possible that's why they didn't want the song on the album, which is funny because the songs they did include on Daydream are very R&B to begin with. I personally love Slipping Away. It has such an infectious beat and her vocals sound amazing. Another song I've rediscovered is from an album I mostly dislike: Angels Cry. What a great song with amazing vocals.

New video for #Beautiful (38,614)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I had high hopes for this era. #Beautiful was doing well, flying up the charts. Then we get an album delay, possible infighting between MC and IDJ. Now a new video for a song that is slowly falling down the charts. Like others, maybe her team knows something we don't know. I doubt it, lol. Honestly, it's time to get things in gear. Get a new single out with a good video, stop fighting with your label, and set a dang album release date. C'mon, this is ridiculous. If these people are such professionals, how come they are acting so unprofessional?

I was out of town so I missed the performances. Can I just say after watching them, wow. That is freaking Mariah Carey the way she should sound. Period. Those are the types of live performances we expect from her, not the shotty jobs done at AI and BET. I hope some of you can now see what some of us were talking about earlier. That voice is still there. She just needs to take care of it. Oh and I'm not saying all of FLAB from the Grammys '06 was the majority lipped, just a few notes at the end. Stephen, all we can do is quietly laugh at the end of the day, knowing we were right all along, lol.

I've watched that performance plenty of times. Trust me, lol. But some of the high notes toward the end of FLAB are lipped, not all, just some. They sound too close to the original recording not to be. I've always said I don't mind if a singer lips here and there. All singers do it. It's when the lipping is so obvious is where I have a problem. She doesn't need any kind of bad press, especially when you are preparing for a new album release. That's pretty much where I stand on the issue of lipping. Not much more for me to say. Peace.

Well said. MC on her worst days live sounds better than these young starlets on their best days, lol. It's totally true. For me, it's not the lipping that bothers me. All singers do it at one point. It's that she's doing it all the time now and it's so obvious. At the Grammys 2006 performance, WBT was all live, but toward the end of FLAB, you could tell she was lipping. I would do after singing WBT 100% live, lol. It's ok to lip notes here and there. What bothers me is that it was so obvious at AI and the BET awards. I watched a spot on E! News today about the awards and the press MC got was not flattering. That's not the kind of media coverage you want with a new album waiting in the wings. It's freaking Mariah Carey. Arrange the songs differently to sing them live, but just sing them live.

MC ft Young Jeezy remix (38,476)

Man, I would love those vocals on the original version, lol. MC sounded so good. More Mariah is always a good thing. The guest rapper stint isn't my thing, but those resung vocals were killer, especially the beginning.

Well said, my friends. I especially loved Lyric's post. Fans who wear rose colored glasses loving everything MC puts do her a diservice. Even after supporting her longer than some of your time on earth, lol, some of us still can't express concern over the direction of her latest efforts. I keep going back to that point because some fans think they can throw away my 20+ years of support because I offer some constructive criticism. Just baffles me some folks can't tell the difference between negativity and constructive criticism. Who knows what the issue is these days. I thought things were back on point and then an album pushback to who knows where. Who is dropping the ball here? I don't know. All I want for MC is continued success. I couldn't be more happier for her additional roles as wife and mother (as I am both too).

Your post was spot on. I couldn't have said it better myself. Even those here who have been staunch supporters of her can see things are falling apart. #Beautiful was a great start. It was doing well on the radio, airplay was up, things were looking good. Then an album push back. Then hot messy remixes that are so below what she is capable of doing are released. Everything was in place and now it's all falling apart. Someone somewhere better get it together fast.

*sigh* Here we go again (38,407)
by Stacey from USA

My thought is, why set a release date when you clearly know you aren't going to be ready. Taking your time is one thing (I get that) vs. setting a date then pushing it back. The latter just looks bad. I am in no way defending how Sony personally treated Mariah, but from a business standpoint, when she was there promotion and release dates were on point. Ever since she joined IDJ, the only era where that same precision occurred was with TEOM and the beginning of E=MC2. And the remix? I couldn't even take more than a few rap lines. The guest rapper joint is not my thing. IMO, it ruins a perfectly good song. I guess I should be happy the rapper is on the remix this time, lol. As with others, I'm moving onto the re-sung vocals. I didn't care for the original Triumphant song, but the remix dance track with new vocals was pretty good. BTW: The Showbiz article was on point. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I get where you are coming from. I do. The song has been out for over two months, but as you know, the general public has a way of moving on to new songs quite quickly. With airplay stalling last week, we may see a drop. We may not, especially with MC slated to appear on many different shows in the coming weeks. I only want buzz to remain high in the weeks before the album drops. BTW: I like the album title too. On a side note: You think I jump the gun which comes across as negative. I disagree. I try to express my opinions with thoughtful reasons behind them. I just don't criticize something for no reason. Know what I mean? That's why I feel my thoughts fall in in the category of constructive criticism not negativity. Besides that whole conversation about promotion, etc with Edward and others was for fun. I think some fans need to not take things so seriously. Right? Right. At the end of the day, we all want the album to do well. Peace.

Favorite lead single (38,351)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with Stephen. All her lead singles during the 90s were so radio friendly with awesome beats, etc. But how do I choose a favorite lead single? So hard. They are all so good. Would you believe I didn't like Fantasy when it first dropped? It took OSD coming out to buy the album and now I can't get enough of Fantasy. Funny how things are sometimes. Ok, it's a tie between Fantasy and Heartbreaker. For me, I normally don't like rappers in songs. I prefer the rapper on the remix. But in this case, Jay-Z's lines fit so perfectly in the song, you can't help but rap along with him. And that beat? Wowza. Fantasy is up there because she changed the course of music by fusing together pop and hip-hop. All the artists who make money off that concept have MC to thank.

We aren't paid experts, but we aren't dumb either. Many of us (me included) have been MC fans for decades. We've been fans of other artists for a long time too. You see trends, what kind of promotional activities that work and what does not. In the past, when a new single, album dropped, MC was all over the place. Then it's seemed the past few weeks have seen a drop off in appearances. Airplay dropped last week. She stayed at #15, and so I'm worried the song may fall a bit before her next appearances. Know what I mean? Only time will tell. No one is being negative about #Beautiful. Some have expressed not liking the song. That's to be expected. However, for the most part everyone here seems to like the song and it's potential. We all want the song to do well. We want buzz to stay high so when the album drops and that all important 2nd single, the album will soar. Know what I mean? It's not called negativity, my friend. It's called constructive criticism. There is a difference.

Album title (38,270)
by Stacey from USA

Honestly, it really doesn't matter what it is. As long as it is not something so cheesy like Lollipop or whatever, folks will concentrate on the music the album contains rather than the album title. You never hear anyone make fun or bash TEOM because the album spawned two #1 songs and #2 with SIO. The music is that good and so no one focuses on the album title.

What the heck happened? I make a funny joke about promotion, no drama toward anyone and some fans just freak out. Antone, try posting your opinions without the name calling or insults toward others and see what happens. Your thoughts will be posted. I guarantee it. You are expected to follow the webmaster's rules just like me and everyone else here. (BTW: I've had posts of mine censored because I didn't follow the rules. I learned from my mistakes and moved forward.) Licia, I'm too much of a prude to put a hashtag before my name. I try and keep my language clean. Edward, I'll let you have full rights to the hashtag, lol. Oh Blake can have it too. I release all rights. Haha. I'm glad there are folks who can laugh and not take everything Mariah so dang seriously.
