About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

New album / AI (37,565)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I'm with Deedre. AI is almost over. Now is the time to launch the album and use the show as a promotional tool. She'd better hurry or else she's missing a huge opportunity. As far as her judging style goes, people will like it and some will not. MC was great during the audition shows, but in the live shows, with some contestants she's really offered good advice and then others she's been all over the place. Honestly, I used to watch AI during the live shows untill the finale. I haven't even watched this year, even with MC on the show. AI is a dying breed and it's sad to see MC a part of it this year, because she's so much better than the show could ever be. I agree with K too. I think she was awesome as a mentor and would be great in Jimmy's spot or sharing the mentoring role with him too.

I've been saying that for a long time as well. I'm not worried. Her place in history as a top selling artist is quite secure.

No artist will ever touch Mariah's numbers, especially the 200 million records sold. With the way the industry has changed, I think her title as the best selling female artist is quite secure. Mariah will always make music, but we may not get an album every two years. We were very spoiled for many years. Plus, she has accomplished so much, it's almost like now she is making music for herself and her fans without worrying if that song will achieve that #1 status. Know what I mean? Further, if Mariah wants to work on her family and take time off, that is ok too. She is human, not the robot singing factory she endured in the 90s (i.e. sing, sing). Remember that? So just chill folks and enjoy the music.

Mariah pregnancy, etc (37,517)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Deciding to get pregnant is a serious issue. It's not stupid either. Mariah knows what is best for her and her family. I've carried one kid at a time (have two kids) and one child was tough enough. To carry twins? I can't imagine the toll that took on her body. I can see where Nick is coming from too. It would be a strange situation seeing someone else carry your child. But, surrogacy is sometimes a couple's only option. Look at Guiliana (from E! News) and Bill Rancic who after G's breast cancer saw surrogacy as a way to have a child of their own. Either way, I hope they make the best decision for their family. If another child is in their future, that is great. If not, then that's ok too.

MC's press coverage / new album (37,488)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I was checking out the other day, reading of the magazines while waiting in line. I came across a ton of negative articles about Nicki Minaj, but nothing about MC. MC usually doesn't get positive press coverage ever from the media. It's a nice change of pace to see her winning the PR battle. She's taking this job seriously, showing up on time, dressing to perfection, and offering good critiques. Even ousted Jolley gave another good critique of Mariah's judging style while slamming Nicki. On a side note, does anyone know if MC is going to perform Almost Home or her lead single from a new album on AI. I feel like we only have about 8-9 weeks left of the show. She better get on it if she's going to use AI to promote her album. I feel like if she doesn't, she's missing a golden opportunity.

Mariah's girls, lol / Nikki (37,473)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Maybe it's me, but I don't need to see them all the time. It's nice to see her wear clothes that cover them up, but still doesn't take away from her sex appeal. Know what I mean? I think a lot times her dress takes away from her amazing talent. People, for right or wrong, focus on the lack of coverage and not the music. That frustrates me, because MC's music is that good. Anyway, don't want to go to deep down the dress discussion, so I'll leave it at that. Yeah Nikki, Mariah has her own way of speaking volumes without saying a word. She lets her music do the talking. Obsessed comes to mind. She is the queen of plausable denability. We all know the song is about Eminem, but MC can easily say it's all just in the name of fun. She is the queen at that game. No one messes with MC, lol. Nicki Minaj better watch out. She does not know who she's messing with. Ugh, just so annoying with her comments. Just another benefit to having a DVR. I can fast-forward past her comments.

Mariah's dress (37,470)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree. Mariah's black/gold dress was stunning. I know many here defend MC's dress options to show the girls off, defending her right to dress how she wants, etc. But c'mon, even you guys have to admit covering up the "girls" sends a better message. Mariah's dress choices during the finalists AI shows has been perfection. Her clothes aren't distracting folks from her role as a judge. Notice the media isn't focusing on them either, because she isn't choosing revealing clothing. I know, I know the media will find something to criticize, but I don't hear them attacking her clothing lately. I hope she chooses something stunning if and when she performs live on the show, so people can focus on the music and not revealing clothes, which tend to distract from the music.

Nikki / American Idol (37,466)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree. I watched last night's AI episode too and my only thought was Nicki is endlessly irritating. I had DVRd the recording and after 1-2 singers, I found myself constantly fast forwarding past NM's comments. The rest of the judges try to offer thoughtful criticism trying to help the contestants and then Minaj who must be living in her own reality. She's just nuts. For whatever the reason she continues to act the way she does, I could care less. She's just freaking annoying. Period.

Stop eating nuts (37,461)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Some of you are nuts. The lady has sold over 200 million records with 18 #1 hits and countless Top 10 hits, etc. Why not tout that record? No one will ever come close again to selling that many records. No one. She has earned it. I'm with Deedre on this one. Sure I would love to see her beat the Beatles record, but for me it's all about good music. I want the sequel to "return of the voice" this time around. And I agree with Nikki too. The last time people counted out Mariah, she blasted right back with WBT. The record was so hot, radio stations had to play it. The same goes with TMB. That line from the BW interview, "well if they counted me out, they'll just have to count me back in" is the best line ever. If the new album contains that "it" song, radio will have to play it. Even Obsessed off MOAIA went to #6 because it was catchy and people liked the video. And many here know I'm not afraid to criticize Mariah, lol. Even if MC doesn't reach the same type of commercial success she had in the 1990s, her place is still cemented in time. Numbers don't lie. They don't change because some other singer is the "in" thing right now. Rihanna may have her #1 hits, but she'll never, ever come close to selling 200 million records. So, just chill and enjoy the music. And even if her newest stuff isn't your thing, like sometimes for me, go back and listen to her early stuff. Relax and stop eating so many nuts.

Haha, I was nervous too. I thought, oh the media is going to have a field day with this if MC shows up late. She was over an hour late to the concert I attended. So, I'm glad she is taking this seriously and to hear she talked with Curtis Finch for a time afterwards, waiting to speak with him after the show wrapped, shows how much she really cares about these contestants. Mariah is a diva with her diva ways, lol, but it's nice to see this side of her, the side that was present when she was trying to break into the record business. She understands what these contestants are going through and hasn't forgotten that point in her life. She's a diva, but this AI experience is showing there is a person behind that diva-ness. Know what I mean? Being late for a live show when you're getting paid that much is unacceptable. Pay me that much money and I'll be on time, lol.

Mariah on Idol (37,391)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I haven't read the article in question. I've only watched Idol a few times up to this point. I mainly wait until the finalists are chosen before I start to watch. It's always been that way for me. However, I've watched a bit more with Mariah being on the show. I have to say she's done a pretty good job. She really tries to critique their voice. I mean, nobody knows better about vocals than Mariah, lol. And I like the fact they put her last. When she was the first judge to comment, sometimes her style got overshadowed my Nicki. Honestly, NM bugs the heck out of me with her "how you doing" Joey-ish question to the contestants. Idol is so yesterday. Ratings are dropping. I would be really surprised if they bring the show back for a 13th season. X-Factor is tanking too. Time will tell.

Almost Home (37,358)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|

The video is nice, what you'd expect from a movie song? What I don't get is why the song doesn't immediately play right when the credits start or soon after. Beauty & The Beast has an instrumental introduction before playing the song with Celine Dion. Same goes with Disney's Aladdin. Strange. And the song not being included on the soundtrack? Now that's odd. Is the song going to be included on Mariah's new album? Celine Dion did that with My Heart Will Go On, it was on the soundtrack and her album.

I don't think how many likes someone has on Facebook is something to be concerned about. Doesn't diminish Mariah's place in history. No one will ever come close to 200 million records sold. Plus, not everyone does Facebook, Twitter, etc. I don't have a Twitter account, yet I post here and support MC by buying her music.

Edward/TEOM (37,341)
by Stacey from USA

Great music and great promotion helped TEOM establish itself as the top selling album of 2005. After CB, many people were wondering if MC still had "it" in her to produce great music. I'm not knocking CB as I think it was crucial step in Mariah's comeback. I myself wondered if MC was heading toward a more whisper/softer sound and away from the middle of the road vocal that had proven so successful. I remember I first heard clips of all the songs and I about fell off my chair. I couldn't contain my excitement. The album sounded so much like Daydream, a hugely popular album (ironically released 10 years earlier). Mariah is at her best when she appeals to wider fanbase, meaning she gave some the ballads (Mine Again, IWYK, Circles, WBT, Joyride), others the hip-hop songs (TTF, SS, O&O, ILT), to those who didn't care for the hip-hop stuff, she gave us songs with more R&B/Pop mixes (SIO, GYN), etc. That album much like Daydream gave every person something to like. She is at her best when she doesn't focus on one paticular genre or type of vocals. That's why I think TEOM was so successful. I love that album tons.

That's funny. Great minds think alike. Most people here know I don't care for many of her rap collabos, especially when the song is remixed for a edgier move toward hip-hop. So I especially love when MC gives fans like myself a no rap version that sounds hot R&B but doesn't turn me off with all the rapping. Let the fans of the rappers have that version and me get just no rap version. My All/Stay Awhile and ABMB are probably my two favorite slow R&B remixes. Make It Last is also a great one too.

On the subject of old school, I sure do love this remix. I also love it even better when she gives us fans the no-rap version. It's one of my favorites. Stephen, I hear you. It's a nice effort, perfect for a Disney movie. I will say it didn't grab me on first listen. I had to give the song a chance. The bridge still sounds disjointed. Ultimately for me, I'm just glad to hear that voice. I hope that's the kind of voice she brings to the new album mixed with some hot beats.

Some were jumping the gun calling the song a flop long before other factors like the movie's release and video premiere happened. If the song tanks after those two things, then yeah, maybe you can call it one. I hardly think that's going to happen. Doing a lot of promotion once the video and movie drop would help things a ton. Plus, she should definitely sing the song live on AI. Once people hear that song as the ending credits roll, the song should rise on the charts. All of this is good news for her upcoming album. Now this is a buzz single type song to get people ready for her album drop.

Very nice (37,253)
by Stacey from USA

Almost Home is a fresh new sound for Mariah. This is a great buzz single for her upcoming album. Doing a song for a popular Disney movie is never a bad thing, especially when you have a album coming out soon. Her low full voice vocal was something I haven't heard in a long time. I wasn't sure how I liked it until she hit the first chorus and then it seemed to fit. I can see the comparisons to Rhianna, but folks, when MC hits those notes in the second chorus and final takes, Rhi-Rhi needs to sit down, because no one compares to MC. Her voice sounds amazing and I hope she brings that kind of flare and confidence to her new album. It sounds fresh and current. I see this as a very radio friendly mid-tempo Dreamlover-like song. Very nice, MC. Defintely going to download this one.

No, I get where you are coming from. That's part of the problem I had with her belting voice off CB. I know some love that CD, but for me, the belting parts sounded screechy. She either whispered or belted and it didn't work for me. I miss that middle of the road vocal. Songs off TEOM and E=MC2 had a fuller belting voice (aka Stay The Night, Shake It Off, etc), but then songs like Mine Again were purposely cracked, so maybe it's the style she's trying to create rather than what her voice status is. Know what I mean?

Wow. I can't wait to hear the full song. I am loving that voice. I know some love the whisper/softer tracks, but for me, this is the sound I fell in love with nearly 20 years ago. It's that full voice vocal that sets her apart from everyone else.

Deedre / Nicki vs. Mariah (37,154)
by Stacey from USA

Awww, you beat me to the "Nick" joke, lol. It's easier to type Nikki vs. Nicki with the "c". I totaly get your last post. I'm glad they blew up during the audition process and not during the lives shows. Who knows, it may happen there too, lol. Heaven knows I've got my fair share of situations I wish I could have handled differently. Randy Jackson and MC are long time friends. There is that established relationship there. RJ is an experienced judge on AI. Keith Urban is a legend amongst country loyalists. Then there is Minaj. What does she add to the group? And in that question lies why she does what she does. She feels inferior, jealous. Ever been around that person in your own personal lives that has to fight for attention? Doesn't that get annoying? When you're talking, they talk louder to be heard. Minaj is doing this job as a career advancement while MC/Randy/Urban have earned their stripes already and have nothing to prove. They genuinely care about the contestants and their futures. So Minaj constantly feels the need to put herself in the spotlight no matter the consequences.
