Then one day in the studio she realized it was too gospel for the album. Tommy probably helped her decide too. Music Box the album is a very orchestrated piece of art. The mixes and song choices were carefully thought about to make a cohesive album. This is really why every song flowed into each other like a woven piece of cloth. It's not by coincidence that Music Box is her biggest selling album. Tommy was not going to let MC's third album be subjected to the criticism and low sales like Emotions. Music Box - 30th anniversary (103,418) by Libra Lamb from USA I also have a new found appreciation for Music Box, it was never my most played album, but with these new gems it makes me want to listen to it over and over again. I'm loving it and am so happy with these unreleased songs finally seeing the light of day, old and new fans can appreciate the hard work that went into these recordings. I also noticed that only with the release of new MC music this board is happy and peaceful, without new music things can get a bit aggressive and confrontational. MB30 (103,403) by Randy from USA Hey fam. I've been busy since I have a new teaching assignment this year. So I finally listened to the new music. I have to say. I am excited you all are excited. But I don't like My Prayer or Workin Hard. Mariah sounds incredible but what would you expect for '93? I just don't like the songs and understand why they were left on the cutting room floor. Hero 2009 had my attention on the first verse and chorus. She sounds absolutely breathtaking. Pun intended. I didn't like the 2nd verse at all. Ima stick with the Never Too Far/Hero Medley as my definitive version. I am not being a negative Nancy, I was summoned by Robert. And to a lesser extent Edward. It just amazes me how she works her magic regarding her phrasing, vocals, lyrics, and sequencing. She is always on point with all four and always amazes us with them. No wonder she and Walter A. worked so well together. I wish they would reconcile at least to produce an album of reimagined or extended mixes of their best work together. Workin Hard x My Prayer x All I Live For x Hero 09 (103,393) by Edward from USA The same sentiment here. "All I Live For Extended" is just brilliant. I don't know why she cut it off and put that short lived whistle at the end on "The Rarities". "My Prayer" was executed beautifully, vocally and emotionally, but I can understand why "Without You" was chosen, it sounds more current even today. As for "Working Hard", I'm still getting used to it, but I like it. Obviously I had to replace "All I Live For" with the extended version on "The Rarities", what a difference. Tommy's thoughts about MC30 (103,408) by Bobby A from United States I was thinking today after looking at the album cover Mariah Carey. What are Tommy's thoughts in 2023 about MC's remarkable career? Does he have any regrets about how he kept such tight reins on MC? Does he have any regrets about marrrying MC? Was he trying too hard to mirror the record label executive relationship that Clive Davis and Whitney Houston had? Whatever he was trying to mirror worked extremely well until the music relationship became a physical relationship. I think the Emotions and Music Box albums were all about that physical relationship. The evidence is substantially real in Emotions, So Blessed, Music Box, Now That I Know, and I've Been Thinking About You. They were all about Tommy. (Sunday 10 September 2023; 05:56)

I did some investigated work myself and found one fan on PulseMariah said that it makes sense that My Prayer has not been registered in MC's name since she is not the writer for My Prayer. And it makes sense for 2.50 song length. It is very typical for songs in the 50s and 60s to be less than 3 minutes. I am really excited now. Listening to Music Box, MC makes you think she is talking to God in one verse and in another verse is to talking her lover. The use of the word "thee" makes me think Music Box was a gospel song before MC changed the lyrics to make it more secular with the use of the words "sweet", "tenderly", and "baby". Therefore, I am wondering did My Prayer evolve out of Music Box to become the gospel song MC wanted. I think that it is safe to assume that My Prayer is a gospel song. I have always thought that from 1990-1997 MC's recordings had the best sound. Sony was a powerhouse back then in every aspect of the music industry. I will save my money for the 8th. Music Box 30th anniversary revealed (103,291) by Bill from the UK I don't have that version my friend, but that's because it's a lot of snake oil. It won't sound any better than the CD. CD audio (16bit/44.1khz) is better than the top range of human hearing (but a substantial margin), so much like the gold "hi-res" stamp you see, it's marketing with no discernable difference. The fact the K2 CDs play on a regular CD player, which cannot encode any better than the Redbook standard, is testament to that. The only true difference can be heard on the SACD/HDCD format, which you need to play on special decoders/systems. You will hear nuances in the music and perhaps elements deeper in the mix brought to life a bit more. To my knowledge only #1's and Divas Live has been released on that format from Mariah's catalogue. Any difference you hear on the K2 version will likely be down to the mastering, and in most cases it's "louder" only. So, put in your regular Music Box CD and turn up the volume dial and you'll have the same outcome. We are fortunate Mariah recorded her albums in top quality Sony studios (up until Rainbow), the CDs all sound fantastic and are the absolute best they can be. (Sunday 3 September 2023; 10:58)
