Re: RocNation (82,848) (82,874) by B from USA
Why isn't Mariah workings with The Smeezington's and Bruno? Make it happen Mariah. His team could seamlessly update Mariah's signature sound. She should also work with other top producers.

Re: RocNation (82,831) (82,848) by B from USA
A celluar provider purchased a million copies of her album and gave them away. Prior to Work she had released three singles that failed to catch on. So, let's hope not, idc if she does a similar deal but I hope we don't get three singles that fail before Mariah calls in Drake for a cheap repeative song with a one word hook. She needs to work with the best songwriters and producers on her new album.

Re: Greatest Mariah performance ever (?) (82,842) (82,847) by B from USA
I think her 1990 performance of America The Beautiful is her best. I love the players reactions to her voice and when the announcers said and the palace now has a queen. She was completely unknown, her single had just been released and she walks out all timid and shook the rafters with her voice. I also love the SNL My All performamce, amd her Grammy performances of Vision of Love and If It's Over.

Re: Mariah and JD (82,782) (82,811) by B from USA
Maybe as album cuts not as singles unless they're able to find that magic that's been missing since 2008, each ballad except For The Record sounds like a WBT knockoff by an artist emulating Mariah. They sound like they so be on an Arianna album. I'm just glad she's writing with new collaborators.

Mariah looks young an natural and skinny. She's answering questions without rambling, lol.

I think it would have fit nicely before Always be My Baby replacing Open Arms.

Mariah's music is my saving grace.

I'd love to hear Mariah's take on Again. He's so sexy in that video.

Re: #1's (82,613) (82,620) by B from USA
My favorite is Fantasy because it was my introduction to Mariah and her music. My least favorite is TGIFY however I love the remix featuring Joe and Nas (which is the version people know and love) and how she rearranged it for her Vegas residency.

For The Record because I'd also be able to discuss the songs she references in the lyrics.

I also like Infinity and I was in the audience singing along as Ratner filmed the performance scenes for the video so my opinion may be biased by that fact alone, lol.

Re: Album delayed (82,550) (82,572) by B from USA
Mariah's album has to have a release date before it can be delayed. I hope and pray her next album isn't delayed. The delays killed the momentum of both MOAIA and MIAM.

Where Are You Christmas, why she didn't record it for her second Christmas album is beyond me.

Re: #Beautiful (82,561) (82,569) by B from USA
I think both Obsessed and #Beautiful would have reached #1 if their respective albums hadn't been delayed. The American Idol executives attempted to gain viewership by pitting Mariah Carey against a woman most AI viewers didn't know. They blindsided Mariah by adding Nikki as soon as the ink on her contrac had dried which she only agreed to do if she was the sole female judge. They shot themselves in the foot.

Mariah looked #Beautiful in the video and the remix featuring Jezzy is/was her best remix in years.

Re: #Beautiful (82,563) (82,566) by B from USA
Wasn't the controversy over her bikini? I remember pictures surfacing of her in the water in the white bathing suit and that became translucent when light hit it. Or they could be talking about her falling oft of a platform in stilettos or the use of the word [censored] in the chorus, lol.

Re: Mariah quietly sells diamond ring (82,549) (82,565) by B from USA
Agreed. I love how the inside source shaded the author oh so subtlety by saying “She owns multiple homes, her entire catalog of music, and she’s had numerous successful tours and residences" when it was implied she was selling the ring because she needed money. The source also confirmed what some of us already knew or at least suspected, that when Mariah signed her deal with Epic instead asking for a huge advance she asked for and recieved ownership of her back catalog. I think she signed a similiar deal with IDJ when her deal was renegotiated after the massive success of TEOM. She also owns the rights to her recordings for Virgin including 60 odd songs she recorded but didn't use. Mariah's always been a savvy business woman and if she was hard up for cash she'd be selling the ring for the $10 its worth or more since it belonged to her and she was photographed wearing it.

In my opinion, Mariah's best performance of Vision of Love was at the 91 Grammy's.

Article: "Together" alone (82,534) by B from USA
If Rhianna does surpass Mariah record of 18 #1's she still won't technically be the woman with the most #1's since on quite a few of her#1's she's the featured artist/guest. Surely, since Billboard is a stickler for rules if she does one day surpass Mariah they'll make sure that it's noted that several of her "#1's" aren't actually her's like Love The Way You Lie that's Em's song not her's, she's just the chorus girl.

Re: Best ballad collaborations list (82,523) (82,533) by B from USA
I thought it was best collaborations with producers, lol. In my opinion Mariah best ballad collaborations are as follows:
Mariah Carey - Vanishing - Ben Marguiles
Emotions - Can't Let Go - Walter A.
Music Box - Just to Hold You Once Again - Walter A.
Daydream - When I Saw You - Walter A.
Butterfly - Butterfly and Outside - Walter A.
Rainbow - After Tonight and There For Me - D. Warren and David Foster
Charmbracelet - I Only Wanted - Lionel Cole
TEOM - We Belong Together - JD and Mine Again - James Poyser
E=MC2 - Thanx 4 Nothin' - JD
Memoirs - H.A.T.E.U.-JD and Languishing
MIAM - Camouflage - James Wright

Vocals (82,531) by B from USA
The truth is that despite the years of wear and tear Mariah's put her voice through she is a freak of nature. When she's properly rested, hydrated, and well-rehearsed she's still able to glide through her vocal registers without straining or looking like the veins in her throat and face are going to burst. Like the video she uploaded of her singing the melody of Ain't No Mountain High Enough in her whistle register effortlessly after the disastrous opening night of her The Elusive Chanteuse World Tour. If Mariah's voice was as shot as some on this board claim Mariah would be unable to sing in her upper registers especially her whistle register. For an example look at what happened to Maria Callas. Maria could still sing in her lower registers, but she basically lost the ability to sing in her upper registers, some claim her vocal decline was the result of her drastic weight loss while others claim it was her hard-partying jet-setting lifestyle that took its toll. Mariah looks healthy and happy in all the recent pics and videos. She's clearly taking care of herself and I guarantee she's taking care of her voice as well. She doesn't need a vocal coach since from an early age she was receiving vocal training from her mother, an opera singer. She hasn't forgotten those lessons and the tricks of the trade her mother taught her. Mariah's problem is her voice is tied directly to her emotions which is why when she's upset or nervous her voice becomes unpredictable.

Re: Whitney Houston (82,529) (82,530) by B from USA
I've always viewed Whitney as an interpreter of lyrics/vocalist not a musician. I know Clive and Whitney claimed she was a vocal arranger but isn't that just a singer who records a song as he or she sees fit instead of singing it the way the composer composed the song, usually in a different key than the one composer composed the song in? Whitney sang in parts of her range she was unable to sing in comfortably which damaged her vocal cords. You can hear the strain in her live vocals and see the physical toll it took on her while watching her perform, especially while on she was on The Bodyguard World Tour. Adele and Sam Smith both also sing outside of their natural/normal ranges and have had to have surgeries to repair the damage doing so did to their voices. I wonder if Whitney underwent a similar surgery to repair her vocal cords and instead of salvaging parts of her voice, like Adele and Sam's doctors were able to do, her results were similar to Julie Andrews'? I'll always love and respect Whitney but after The Bodyguard World Tour she was no longer a virtuoso vocalist/performer. I do love her performance of Why Does It Hurt So Bad at the MTV (Movie?) Awards even though she was clearly high as hell.

Re: Best ballad collaborations list (82,521) (82,523) by B from USA
I'd add Side Effects with Scott Storch, Touch My Body with The Dream and Tricky Stewart, and #Beautiful with Miguel and Happy Perez. I hope she's writing with the same writers Bruno, Miguel, and Frank Ocean write with. #Beautiful seamlessly updated Mariah's sound because her collaborator knew Mariah's strengths and how to highlight them. It seems to help when the artist is also a fan and wants her to succeed. I believe each of these men and their collaborators love Mariah and want her to reclaim her throne. You can hear her influences on each of them when you listen to their albums.

All For You was a successful album, critically and commercially. The title track was Janet's last #1.
