I have been a Lamb since 1990. I know Mariah. I love her music. I breathe her music.

It's the same for 4Real 4Real for me sung in my Mariah voice. By the way, didn't MC say in interviews that she and BMC recorded a total of 4 songs during their Capri sessions?

Whenever I hear this phrase used around me, "For the record", I always sing it back to the person and add "you oughta know". This is such a personal point of reference for me. No one understands what I am doing when I do that, but at this point in life I feel I have earned the right to do that. Needless to say, I have always loved this song.

Album delay (102,425)
by Bobby A from United States

We will know at the Lovers and Friends and L.A. Pride Fest performances if we are going to get a new album this year. If she sings Fantasy/Big Energy Remix and ABMB and no new songs, then we are not getting a new album this year. MC must be heartbroken about the deterioration of her voice.

Album delay (102,423)
by T from USA

Does anyone else get the feeling that all these projects in the works that never see the light of day is really because she's stalling? I wonder if her voice is too far gone? Back in the 90's Mariah could bang out an album every year. Or could it be that she is scared of the commercial performance which is freezing her from putting anything out? She's been talking about the same three projects now for three years since 2020, and it's obvious nothing is coming this year. So that means it will be four years since we first heard about SUD or TBL. And next year will be six years since her last studio album. I personally don't mind if Caution is her last album, as it is that good, knowing full well that her next real studio album will probably be her last.

Mariah vs MC (102,401)
by Bobby A from United States

Like I said before this year, we will know for sure if Mariah will come back with the voice or MC will carry on with her vocal struggles and failed lip syncing. A soft retirement is imminent within 2-3 years though.

Mariah vs MC (102,400)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Whatever happened to her voice in 1997 happened. With the loss of the ability to sing her songs well and fluidly like she did in prior years, the focus had to shift. So, musically the songs became less demanding vocally, the "I'm a songwriter first" narrative was cranked up to the max, and she became more concerned with her look than her voice. She should have said at the time what had happened to her voice and adapted her back catalogue and future songs accordingly. Instead she chose to prolong the facade with studio trickery, dubbing and lip syncing and now it's all gone too far. Those who know, know. Mariah Carey 1990-1996. 1997 onwards, someone else.

Lovers and Friends concert (102,397)

This event is going to determine very quickly what we can expect from MC this summer and fall. Will the performance show that her voice has improved? On the other hand, MC has to be getting ready to unleash multiple releases on her website in the fall. She is going to have a lot of competition this fall from Usher, Janet Jackson, Tori Kelly, and Brandy.

GTFO remixes (102,394)

The official Sony Music, Epic and Legacy imprints are on the CD. It even has the 30-year custom Mariah Carey imprint. The CD was delivered to me in a plastic promo sleeve with a insert picture of one of the video scenes captured. Lettering on the side is in Spanish manufactured in Brasil. Let me do some research on the web. Maybe I have been bamboozled on Ebay.

#Beautiful (102,375)
by Bobby A from United States

#Beautiful does not have that signature Mariah melody that we have been used to. It is the first time that she recorded a song that was already half-written with the chords and lyrics from two other songwriters - Miguel and Happy Perez. The remix showcases signature Mariah melody more.

I love me some #Beautiful, don't get me wrong. I played that song like there was no tomorrow, but there was always the feeling that something was missing. Many speculated back then it was just a shortened version for the radio. One must admit though that it was her last time she was close to having a hit.

Remember in the Fall of 2021 we were all surprised that Fall In Love At Christmas was released on RCA Inspiration and not Epic. Well, I found out today that MC is signed to RCA UK. I guess that RCA UK was all Sony Entertainment could offer MC since she had not submitted a follow up to Caution in a timely manner. Check it out by doing a Google search - Mariah Carey signs with RCA Records.

One more reality show (102,363)
by Bobby A from United States

MC really hurt her chances of signing a new deal with Epic when in 2021 she was making her interview rounds criticizing the AR department and Jay Z for the instant grats promotion. For me, Melissa seemed liked a hands off manager and not really focusing on MC as the artist. And MC has lost the one thing that garnered her attention and money - her voice.

Ya I am not even sure who's her current manager and if she even is on a label. She was no longer on the Epic roster last I checked and she also left RocNation with her previous manager but not sure if they're still together. It's unfortunate that such a huge star like Mariah hasn't had a good solid stable team for a while. Her only constant has been her glam team.

I wonder why MC mentions these projects and they never see the light of day. 90's MC would never keep the Lambs hanging on this long for a new album. Something has to be going on behind the scenes on the business side of her career. Record label issues? Management issues?

I am just wondering what is this album MC talked about last year that Lambs have been asking her to release. Could it be a jazz or gospel album? Maybe a dance album? Billboard just announced that Warner Bros is launching a dance label. This is a genre that MC has had a successful track record for 30 years. It would probably sell better than a jazz or gospel.

I Still Believe (102,339)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
There is something special about MC's cover of I Still Believe. Listening to my ISB 12 inch brought me to post today.
1. It has to be MC's most real, carefree, and casual vocal ever. She sings with such ease without over using her higher register. 2. It was the combination of R&B and Pop that was highlight of MC's delivery. 3. If you have the CD maxi single or 12 inch versions, then you have something rare in your hands. In fact, there were five completely distinct versions released. The ISB remixes are by far one of MC's best remixes. 4. MC's cover of ISB was her way of paying tribute to her mentor and former boss, Brenda K. Starr. 5. Lastly, MC's use of the Pure Imagination interpolation was a brilliant and genius choice for the remix melody.

Remixes (102,331)
by Stacey from USA
| |

Welcome to the club, Randy and Eddie. I replace album versions for remixes all the time. I love some remixes better than the album version. The Morales remix of Honey took out my speakers too. I found a fan made radio edit that if it weren't a digital copy, it would have worn out long ago, lol. I remember when my sister got me a CD-5 for ABMB. It was like discovering a whole new world of music I honestly had no idea existed. Talk about receiving the ultimate Christmas present. That was it. We can say what we want about the current state of Mariah's career in 2023. But there is no denying her talent is unmatched by anyone on Earth. Add in her remixes, her career is unmatched by anyone in the freaking universe. Excuse me while I go and blast Honey Morales Remix and ruin a few more speakers.

Remixes (102,321)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I just found today my Fye Mix and Burn copy of #Beautiful remix with A$AP Rocky and Miguel. I like that remix better than the Jessy remix. One thing that we can say about MC and her remixes is that she started the multiple remix genre featuring other artists and rappers on a different version of a song. DFAU is another one that fits into that genre. MC doesn't get enough credit for starting certain aspects of remixes and vocal stacking.

Remixes (102,320)
by Edward from USA

BB still counts remixes, but if they are structurally different from the original song then they're considered as two different songs. If Jennifer's I'm Real (Murder Remix) and Mariah's Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix) were released today, they wouldn't be considered as remixes for BB purposes, so their airplay, streams and sales wouldn't be combined with the airplay, streams and sales of the original songs. In other words, if you can't recognize the original song in the remix, then they two different songs. #Beautiful and #Beautiful (Jeezy Remix) had combined airplay, streams and sales. While Jesse's rap was added, the lyrics and music didn't go far from the original. Same with Big Energy, but since the original was more popular, Mariah wasn't credited.

The real reason for no respect (102,309)

Haha, cheers. Another one that goes on the board after a few splashes.
I would say, despite the deterioration of her voice, her musicality is generally intact. For example, "You and I" for Stevie or her Patti tribute, raspy AF but she still delivered a unique take while being respectful of the original performance.
I find some performances by Bey or Christina (love them both, especially the former) are overdone to be showy.
When I look at runs for example, I judge based on the following criterion: precision (hits each note), pitch, and placement (meaning, does it actually fit musically and enhance the song).
I do think she always wanted to be a singer but not a performer. Much more of a studio artist, where her creativity shines. Not just the songwriting but the overall production of the track/album.

Just my opinion in what I am about to say. MC is probably headed for retirement within the next 2 years. Vocally, she can't support her career without a major tour and we know her voice is not there anymore. Mentally, I feel she has had enough of record label politics and the music industry in general. What I would say to MC today is announce your farewell album and one more time 16-show U.S. tour and an 8-show European and Asia tour for 2024. By the way, aren't artists obligated to release a certain number of albums during their contract period? MC must have fulfilled her obligations to Epic with Caution because she should have released a new album in 2022 if she signed a new contract. Seems to me that MC is without a major label first time in her career.

The real reason for no respect (102,294)

Mariah was a natural born singer. Before she could even write anything, she was already correcting or emulating her mother, sometimes even leaving her speechless. She developed into a great lyricist, but she loved being showy like the rest of them when the opportunity presented itself. She was nervous during that performance you mentioned, but she was also very young and basically thrown into this gargantuan fame that could've swallowed anyone alive easily. Mariah was showy countless times on Arsenio Hall while singing Emotions, Vanishing, Vision of Love. She gave the best rendition of Vision of Love on Good Morning America, impeccable, surreal. About her nuances, well, that's what really put her in a league of her own, she wasn't just a singer that could blow, but a singer that could paint beautiful songs with her voice and artistry, what she sung came from her soul rather than somebody else's. I've always loved Whitney, her powerful vocals were unmatched, but Mariah's voice spoke to my soul and the souls of millions of people. When her instrument was in its prime, it was untouchable. I can't imagine Whitney, Chaka or Patti singing "Music Box", "Underneath The Stars", "Melt Away", "Fourth of July", no because they couldn't, but because their artistry wasn't at that level. When Mariah started losing her voice, she's started pushing her writing abilities to the front, it was evident she knew what was happening to her. It is sad, but in my humble opinion, the quality of her voice has always been directly proportional to the quality of her lyrics. When she was in her prime vocally, her lyrics were more poetic, balanced, beautiful, mature, but as the voice started deteriorating, her pen game also changed for the worse.

Chaka Khan (102,282)
by Bobby A from United States

Why do you think that MC is disliked by so many female artists? Could it be the Tommy Motolla effect? How many other female artists have had so enormous push and financial investment from their label like MC had? None that I can think of. From 1990-1999, there were no other female artists bigger than MC and other female singers disliked MC during that time for it. Once the Tommy Mottolla effect wavered, MC's popularity decreased and the haters started speaking. To be honest, Tommy, MC and Sony did make a mighty team during her popularity and chart reign. Taylor Swift would have never had the same chart success like MC did in 90s. And Chaka is just mad because of what she could never achieve as a solo artist like MC did.

I agree. How disappointing. And I am a huge Chaka Khan fan, she has always been in my top 3 (maybe even 2 behind MC), so I won't take that away from her, but I found her commentary very distasteful especially what she said about MJB. She don't deserve to be blasted like that publicly. I'm just gonna chose to chalk it up as the side effects of drug abuse.

Said Mariah was ranked #5 on Rolling Stone's best singers of all time due to payola. Basically implying Mariah getting all of her props due to paying out money. I love Chaka Khan but she downtalked Adele, Mary J. Blige as well because they ranked ahead of her. Chaka Khan was #29. I would think that someone who has been in the business for so long would know better to take journalists' bait to create sound bites. Clips from interviews in which you talk bad about people who outsell you make you sound bitter. And when your wigs look like you skinned Snuffleupagus and you have had a drug/alcohol problem for over 50 years, you really shouldn't throw stones anywhere near your glass house.
