Yeah Mariah loves diamonds. She should cover "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" from her idol Marylin Monroe. Honestly I remember that she always fiddled with the ring from her first marriage. That one was big too. And a lot of interviewers asked her about the ring from Tommy and the "Cinderella story". She always hated the Cinderella image. We will see how long she'll wear this monster of a ring. Lol.

Why should Mariah say something about Adele? It's just because it's not the music Mariah is listening to. I'm pretty sure it's nothing against Adele as a musician. The same with Celine Dion. Mariah likes Celine but not the music.

You're right, it was so mean with the camera back then. I always thought Mariah never got over the Grammy fiasco in 96. I can only imagine how she must have felt. She was on the top of her career, working so hard since her debut and broke almost every record. A young Mariah who got foiled by the jury. That she won for TEOM and no Grammy for Daydream is not understandable. But I agree it is a little bit strange that now she is talking about this topic again. Old wounds.

Re: How is it boring when she's always done this? (72,777) (72,783)

Completely agree. I always found it refreshing that Mariah wasn't dancing like a Britney Spears or Janet Jackson. For Britney it made sense, she was never a vocalist. Anyway I understand what some of you mean with "boring". If she works on her voice and gives a performance with a song that comes from her heart I'm sure nobody will find it boring. Great singers don't need dancing and a show. It's a bonus if they offer this entertainment while singing. I only wish Mariah wouldn't be so nervous. She needs her confidence back.

Mariah and Fresh Air Fund (72,760)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

I just love this funny and sweet interview with Rosie O'Donnell back in 96 or early 97. Does anybody know if the "Fresh Air Fund" is still there? Mariah and Jack at the end of the video makes me laugh every time. So adorable.

Wow great pics. The last one really remind me of the Honey Mariah. You're right, the light make-up is perfect for Mariah. She looks so much younger and sweet.

Yes Daydream was so phenomenal. It even went number one in Germany (at that time we still had a lot of eurodance and boybands) lol. The radio stations were playing Fantasy, One Sweet Day and Always Be My Baby every hour. So I could easily record it on my mix-tape. And Mariah was the female superstar of 95-96. Just watch the Daydream tour in Europe, the people and fans were freaking out. And everywhere she was arriving. In France there's a video about MC walking through the crowd, it reminded me of Michael Jackson. Mariah sold out her only German concert so quick. I can't remember exactly, I guess in 2 hours it was sold out. Daydream caused a Mariah "hype" around the world. She was unstoppable. That she didn't win one Grammy at that time is a musical crime. Maybe the jury didn't like a young female singer who's looking like a princess and is married to an executive. I don't know. But it was definitely unfair.

Re: Should fans retire? (72,687) (72,702)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

That's an interesting thought that Mariah commercially retired in 98 with The Ones. I'm always longing for new music and I think MC is a legend since the late 90ies. I only wish that the damage caused by Stella and the other "inner circle" stops. (And Mariah should stop allowing it.) I don't care if Mariah hasn't another one hit also it would be very nice. But I want her to be herself without the strange new marketing and ridiculous "docu-show". And if she needs a time-out I'll wait for her comeback.

Nothing against Alanis, but I will never understand how an album with songs like Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always be my baby, Underneath The Stars and Open Arms didn't win one award. Like Gee on this board said the jury of the Grammy's never liked Mariah and ignored her many times. MC has collected enough awards anyway. The Millennium Award inclusive. But no matter how many awards she's got, I can imagine she doesn't like the Grammy's because of the "debacle" of 96.

by MusicfanJ from Germany

I saw the performance, but for me Beyoncé is so overrated. Yes she's a beautiful woman, she can dance and entertain. Her voice is nice and her songs are always "trendy". Some songs from the Lemonade album are so bad. But hey everybody loves Beyoncé. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against her but she's definitely not the queen. She's a princess of modern R'n'B. Adele deserves the Grammy.

Re: Mariah Carey is about a decade behind (72,591) (72,615)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

The music industry today is 90% still about the looks and image. Yes it started in the late 90ies with Britney and other ones and got worst with Rihanna, Miley and co. Those celebrities look so cheap. I'm sure that "trend" will change again and as you said, it already has begun with "new" artists like Adele. Anyway I love the "boring" Mariah. For me she was never boring, more like a mysterious woman. A real superstar not only good-looking, she was like an angel. Beautiful and so extremely talented. When she started the "diva thing" it was still funny and sweet. And the up and downs since Glitter are surely caused of the hard business and private things. My problem is: since the Crustella management took over, Mariah is seen by the public more like a reality star. Who wonders. And it's so sad. Mariah Carey should never be compared to a reality star.

Maybe Mariah has no longer interest in those events. In the past she was everywhere. The Grammies can't be taken serious since Daydream was completely ignored.

That's one of my all-time favorites. I love how she looked in it and the colours. The story with the flashback of the early 80ies is a nice idea. The song and video are pure Mariah. I even like the rap-part in the video.

When you believe (72,518)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

"When you believe" is on the radio in honor of the great Whitney Houston. I love this song so much. When Mariah released The Ones, everybody loved the duet with Whitney. I hope Mariah will come back with music like this or something new. But most of all I hope Mariah finds real happiness without diamonds. I'll always love her.

The Charmbracelet era was really special. I do love the tour too. I went to a concert and I was in heaven. The show was great, she looked so beautiful and was always smiling and talking to the fans between the songs. And then the "Bringin' on the heartbreak" performance, it was out of this world. Superstarpower at its best.

Re: Weird era (72,378) (72,381)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I never liked Madonna and her music, it's not my style (except some songs) but Madonna created an image from the beginning and I have to say it suits her. She was always an entertainer. And that's the problem with Mariah now. Most of the people know her as a singer and diva. That created and latest fake image for example the MW "documentary" doesn't suit Mariah and never will. It's the complete opposite of everything that comes in mind when thinking of MC. How can Mariah think Stella is good for her? Crustella is really the most weird one of all. I can imagine she's laughing about Mariah and not only with her.

After listening to "I don't" on repeat it seems to get catchy. I prefer the version without the rap. Some parts of the singing reminded me a little bit of old school Mariah, just three words. Does anybody know if the song gets released as a single or just digital?

I also think it's a weird era. All the things and latest "actions" I just can't understand. It's definitely not easy to understand. The weirdest thing for me was the boat trip/engagement with James Packer. Then MW and the instagram stuff posted by a teenager. I won't say anything about the dancer.

Didn't she sang the US hymne for Superbowl in 2001? I think she did a great "job" back then. I remember I only stayed awake for Mariah and next day I had school.

Oh yes, a video like "My All" would be great. For me those videos were video art. But that was a time where videos were better in every way. I also agree that the cougar sexbomb is for entertainment, but all I'm asking for is a little more class, it's not like a want Mariah to be a nun. Lol. Anyway B., I love your avatar with the Daydream album. Is that you? Daydream was my first Mariah cd.
